It's sadly amazing how myopic and easily controlled by a biased media the general population can be...

The rogue state of the USA and NATO have a big hand in the Ukraine skirmish, maybe instead of sending bombs, they should send heaters.

The US and other supporters of Ukraine are providing everything from heaters to radars to bombs because after the invasion by the Terrorist state of Russia, Ukraine needs a vast range of support. Australia earlier sent 70,000 tonnes of Coal to help power their coal fired power plants.

What is needed is for Russia to retreat from its illegal invasion and go home.

How about pledging heating for the 10s of thousands of homeless Japanese first! Charity begins at home!

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Hey Kishi my old buddy...it gets pretty chilly in Japan too in winter. Thanks for the 20% discount but what is this help and who is gonna pay for it?

Charity begins at home...remember Tohoku bud?

This made me laugh...

"Japan will make utmost efforts and positive contributions, and actively lead discussions within the international community" for the speedy restoration of peace and reconstruction in Ukraine."

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The best that Japan can do is to promote peace negotiations and end of the war..

"Russia destroys everything to make it harder for us to survive this winter," Zelenskyy said.

It's a war, what did you expect?

When is Japan going to start imposing sanctions? Government owned Japan Tobacco is still operating in Russia, still paying taxes to Putin.

Business are business..

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

The power stations have not been attacked. The attacks have been on the grid system and transformer stations. There are fewer power plants which are protected.

No electricity means no water, no gas no nothing.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Radioactive water can keep Ukraine warm during the winter

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

This whole war is so crazy and pointless. Russia's logic that NATO is getting too close geographically to Russia is BS. If Russia takes land from Ukraine, NATO is actually closer than before. If Russia takes all of Ukraine, they still have NATO on their doorstep. No wonder Russians are refusing to fight when their country isn't under threat of war from another country. If Ukraine invaded Russia, it would be understandable that Russians would want to fight, but this is clearly not the case. The Russians need to do what they're good at and take Putin out. That seems to be the only way out of this tragedy. The sooner the better.

Wood burning stoves are already in wide use in Ukraine as a heat source.

https://learningenglish.voanews.com/a/ukrainians-face-a-cold-winter-many-without-heat-/6798713.html

There are no cities in Japan that prohibit wood burning stoves.

Why do some peiople who know nothing about a subject feel so compelled to display it for all to see?

6 ( +8 / -2 )

And everything Ukraine says is true.

I have noticed if Russia says it destroyed 80% of the power stations I will cut that to about half.

If Ukraine says that 30% of its power stations were destroyed, I would double that number.

Both are corrupt both lie non stop.

So we can be sure of 2 things it isn't 80% or 30%

So the Truth is somewhere in the middle between 80% and 30%.

But that 30% claim was before the latest round of destruction.

And as it progresses there will be fewer and fewer functioning power stations.

I don't know much about attack drones but missiles fly just the same in winters, but from experience working on power lines in below freezing is far far slower than in warmer weather. As it gets colder and more and more power stations get Bombed the harder it will be to get them repaired.

Poland is going to need the real help as the number of refugees is going to explode once winter really hits.

Ukraine is not without electricity. There are areas that have lost it because the power plants were bombed by Putin.

One poster seems to think Ukraine has zero power.

Over 1.4 million Ukrainian households have lost electricity after a morning of repeated Russian air raids, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office says.

Old fashion Non Electrical Kerosene heaters are great, if Kerosene is available, they heat and cook too.

Totally agree, Mark. We have that type in the kitchen with a kettle boiling atop and an electric heater for the living room.

This is a problem of United States and NATO, not Japan.

It is a problem created by Russia and is as much for Japan as any other nation in the world, who wants to help the innocent against invaders.

No wanting to help those in severe need is cruel and heartless. Advocating for Japan to do nothing in the face of such barbarity as being invaded and destroyed is cruel and also heartless.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

"To support Ukraine's reconstruction efforts since Russia invaded in late February, Kishida said Tokyo has shared with Kyiv its experience in sorting and reusing debris from the massive earthquake and tsunami that devastated northeastern Japan in March 2011"

It's always gotta be about Japan. I'm surprised he didn't start his pledge with, "As the only nation to have experienced an atomic bombing...", and maybe also pointed out the threat Japan faces from China and also North Korean abductions in saying Japan will help. And what will they help with as they continue to import from and do business with Russia?

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

Yes seriously, Wood buring stoves are quite common and popular in Hokkaido.

Not on cities where they are prohibited because of danger of fire.

Again the majority of people live in cities, tell us how you would install wood stoves in apartment buildings and where the wood is going to come from.

The USB heater jackets and blankets are probably the best options to send.

Except they need electricity to change them.

But hey just a technicality.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Japan’s unique knowledge and strengths and some people would like to know what they are… I don’t know, maybe Japan has experience rebuilding after every natural disaster known to mankind, being destroyed by war, nuclear annihilations, nuclear meltdowns, you name it!

Fumio Kishida, Japan's Prime Minister should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his offer to send Ukraine warming equiment this winter.

USB charging for smartphones and other devices can be charged in various ways. Standard power outlets but a small amount of electricity. To charge a smartphone costs less than $10 per year.

They can be charged in cars. They can also be charged by small solar panels.

The USB heater jackets and blankets are probably the best options to send.

Still much better than only weapons or those usually offered ‘tears and prayers’.

Yet another, do not help Ukraine people at risk of dying poster.

If the USA really wanted to help it wouldn't be charging 4 times the USA going rate for LNG like it is to Europe

Wood burning stoves.

In Japan?

Seriously!

Oh have you seen reports from Germany as they try getting wood for their stove for the winter?

I'm from Canada I actually have lived in homes fully heat by wood it takes a lot unless the a slow combustion type.

Good luck trying to install one in apartment buildings.

Start by helping the poorest Japanese citizens first.

Yet another, do not help Ukraine people at risk of dying poster.

Is the third biggest economy in the world unable to both help its poorest citizens, and help save those of a country under invasion? While other much smaller economies are able to do exactly that. Is Japan so poorly led that it is incapable of doing more than one thing at a time?

I have much more faith in the ability of Japan and it's people to both help themselves and others when needed.

Like what?

There is little electricity and will be less as the Russians bomb more power stations.

There will be no gas once Russia cuts it later in the winter.

So what will this heating equipment run on?

Wood burning stoves.

Do The Same and watch Russia back off

You are funny!

And how?

Oh by the time Ukraine knocks out a second power station Russia will have launched every Heavy bomber and major missile and no more smart bombs and drones full on carpet bombing.

I still use one non electric kerosene heater but mostly the more modern fan kerosene heaters which have no wicks and smell less.

You can also cook a meal on the non fan kerosene heaters. Done that before.

But they do need a supply of kerosene.

Some Ukrainians will still have power supplies.

The Ukrainian voltage is 230 volts so they can’t use Japanese electric appliances.

The hot patches are very good we use them all winter.

Rubber hot water bottles for sleeping with.

Thick Korean type blankets are wonderful even in the most cold of weather.

Arctic sleeping bags.

The biggest obstacle is how to make deliveries in a war zone.

"Ukraine can make use of debris resulting from the Russian invasion," he said.

No doubt this is of some use, but it is very far from what is really urgent for Ukraine, as long as the destruction continues this is just "cosmetic" and not something that should be boasted as help.

Kishida reiterated that Japan "strongly condemns" Russia's missile attacks on civilians and civilian facilities in Ukraine as well as its threats to use nuclear weapons.

But keep supporting the Sakhalin energy project with Russia, because talking is easy, but doing things that actually can hurt the economy of the country not so much.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

I've emailed several kerosene heater manufacturers as well as a few government employees about sending non-electric heaters to Ukraine over the past two months. Japan has a huge manufacturing capacity for them, they are inexpensive, easy to ship, and can be readily moved if users must evacuate. Japan can easily send at least 10,000.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Japan can help but in very different way.

bring to negotiation table UA and RU leaders and start to discuss about ceasefire and peace.

So you think Russia is willing to retreat to its internationally recognized borders and pay reparations for the estimated $750 billion in reconstruction plus compensation for all the Ukrainian dead? That would be promising news, but I doubt Putin will agree to it for the sake of peace. Nothing less will be acceptable to Ukraine, it's people and to Europe.

This is japanese exact position.

Its time to stop abt war everyday and its about time to start to talk about peace.

The war continues every day, so it will be discussed for as long as it is ongoing. Russia can achieve peace at any time by removing its forces from all Ukraine territory. One can only assume that in not doing so Putin has no desire for peace.

Ukraine can make use of debris resulting from the Russian invasion,

Much wood and furniture that has been destroyed, can be burned with the right equipment. This will help eliminate some debris and provide warmth and fuel for cooking.

Well, it will naturally have to be some kind of equipment that doesn't run off of fossil fuels, since that is the very reason Ukraine is suffering. So I guess he is talking about those Kairo chemical things you rub and put into your pockets?

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

based on our country's unique knowledge and strengths

I would really like to know what he's referring to.

Are we talking non fan type kerosene heaters?

If so they will need hundred of thousands of not millions and where is the kerosene going to come from?

It is like sending a drought stricken place drinking cups and water containers but no water!
