It's really baffling to me, as a non-American.

How many 'breakthrough infections' is Ireland recording recently? Do they refuse to release that information as the CDC does?

It's strange. If the vaccines are as good as they say, surely releasing the data would reassure those of us who are skeptical.

The indestructable fact is they are emergency vaccines only approved for emergency use.

According to a recent poll, just over 20% of Americans identify as antivaxxers.

They would appear to be well represented on JapanToday.

It's really baffling to me, as a non-American.

You'd think they'd be proud that the vaccines which are considered (by actual scientists and medical experts) to be the safest and most effective are all made by US companies. (I'm saying that on the understanding that the Astrazeneca vaccine is not quite considered to be in the same league, but I'm not an expert).

What really chills my blood is that they are surely aware that their attempts at disinformation will, statistically, work on some people, who will then refuse to get vaccinated and potentially get sicker than they have to.

That there are people out there who invest all this time into trying to ensure such outcomes is surprising even to me, and I have a very pessimistic view of human nature in general anyway.

99 percent of hospitalized patients/deaths didn’t get vaccinated

ill take my chances with that dud vaccine

Where does that exist except in your imagination?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

You still got 30% chance of dying, so good luck with your theory. It's so much easier to get vaccinated and avoid all this in the first place!

Dud vaccines by definition don't work.

That's great news, thank Mr. Suga, great job

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

You're not being forthcoming here. You're being evasive.

my mother father taken all the vaccines available to them me my wife her mother father, my children

my parents and inlaws all into their 70s all healthy as Ox.

half billion people in the world have been vaccinated no reports of mass deaths or mass health problems,

so far in the covid pandemic 208million infections 4.3 million deaths worldwide and still there are morons afraid of a vaccine!?

8 ( +10 / -2 )

That's good news. No need to get dud vaccines.

so you wont take a vaccine but youll take a chemical cocktail!?

once again real world stats from the CDC about vaccinated and unvaccinated person.

As of August 2021, 162million Americans have been fully vaccinated. out of those 162mil about 1000 people have died of covid. Compare this to the 600000+ people that have died of covid unvaccinated.

So basically youre over 600times more likely to die of covid unvaccinated compared to vaccinated people.

Congratulations on finally getting the vaccine!

You do know the difference between July and August, right?

Let me help July is before August.

https://www.haaretz.com/amp/israel-news/israel-covid-graphs-prove-vaccines-works-delta-pfizer-1.10101640

As of August 16, the ministry recorded 159 severe COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people among the unvaccinated over the age of 60, compared to 20 per 100,000 people among the fully vaccinated.

For those under the age of 60, the rate of severe illness among the unvaccinated stood at 2.4 cases per 100,000 people – 2.7 times more than the 0.9 per 100,000 among those who are fully vaccinated.

Try stay up to date.

Is this another way for Suga/Abe and Koike to pay off all their hotel buddies like APA Hotel. Inc for losing money with Olympics?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

So seems some don't understand how this treatment works.

It is only effective if administered early within the first 10 days of any symptoms.

Now that means people showing even the first signs they may have covid need to be tested and immediately treated if positive.

Japan does very little testing and only in those showing a high percentage of covid symptoms.

Which means late in the game for this treatment to be truely effective.

So if this is actually going to be used effectively then Japan needs to start testing people properly otherwise they are giving the false impression and false hope to many.

This is not hearsay not negative it is the clear and precise manufacturer's own instructions.

Their is a 10 day window of opportunity for it it be effective.

The answer to your questions have been public knowledge for months.

Medical personnel were vaccinated first and at the time the only vaccine approved in Japan was Pfizer and the members of the Diet were also vaccinated at the same time also Pfizer.

On a personal note my wife's doctor being a surgeon and also working emergency room got Pfizer early on as did my son's doctors and surgeons.

My personal doctor chose to wait as he only works his own little hospital that until just a few months ago was him and his father ( now fully retired) his father ( doctor) got Pfizer, my doctor wanted to see first hand the difference so opted to wait and got Moderna to compare with how his staff and father reacted.

He has no problem recommending either one.

So basically the government is wasting money.

This treatment to be effective needs to be given ASAP and well within 10 days if any symptoms.

Seeing that getting tested without showing full blown covid symptoms is near impossible it is basically being give to people just barely within the limits of when the treatment is effective.

Our suga san is great.

If you don't want this vaccine and you are forced to take it, and IF you have a choice of the three vaccines to take. The first thing you might want to do is ask which vaccine the diet members, and the medical professionals took. That is the one I would also take. Do I need to say more?

The antibody cocktail is reported to have worsened symptoms in patients ill enough to require high-flow oxygen and ventilators. Clinical trials also have not established its efficacy in patients who have been presenting symptoms for eight days or longer.

Far from being a silver bullet as some antivaxers think!

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Had my first vaccination today. I feel slightly safer, can’t wait to have the second but I will still continue to follow basic rules because I want to keep others safe too…. Sick and tired of seeing all these dumb anti vaxers spouting nonsense.

Why use hotels when there are so many beds in private hospitals with all the necessary medical equipment in place and designed to care for the sick? Highly inefficient.

This all seems very stop gap due to a failure to provide sufficient and timely vaccination. More an admission of failure than a policy to be praised.

Oh well better than nothing I suppose.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Having a treatment for COVID19 is excellent news ! One step closer to "Problem Solved" .

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

While some members of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party have called for prioritizing lawmakers' vaccination from the standpoint of crisis management, it was never realized in the face of concerns that the public would deem it as exercising their privilege.

They never "realize" it because they only care about the people during elections! They get used to being treated like their guano doesnt stink, get called "sensei" all day long by underlings, while many have never actually done an honest days labor in their lives!

Oh and they never have realized either, that the major crisis is among themselves, as nary a one has any leadership capabilities, and continue to run the country into the ground!

They should be LAST on the list!

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Didn’t he also say Japan has enough vaccines to cover the country? Before he said we didn’t? Just before his save and secure sports day?

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Treating the patients at early stages is what must be done to avoid death!

Yes, but unfortunately people are told to just wait at home... until it's too late.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

So when can I get a dosage?

Hahahaha!

Is apparently against taking a vaccine that could save his life. But is apparently O.K. with taking another experimental cocktail of drugs. Hilarious.

I hesitate to believe it. After previous experiences like "we have enough vaccines" or "we will vaccinate most of the population by September". So far, all the statements regarding this virus have been exactly the opposite. Or most.

18 ( +19 / -1 )

Vaccines, drug cocktail injections, masks, lockdown like measures, curfews, restrictions of all kind, certifications and so on…What comes next to gloss over the wrong choice to ‘live with the virus’? What have all those incompetents still in store? No thanks, better not to be informed beforehand.

Those who call a vaccine a DUD, I call them a Petri dish.

7 ( +21 / -14 )

This is good news. But what about all the people told to stay at home to recover? Will they be administered these treatments too?

Tokyo Gov Yuriko Koike who accompanied Suga and Health Minister Norihisa Tamura during the visit

And where did they go for lunch and did they have beer?

12 ( +17 / -5 )

What is the message we are trying to convey to people living in Tokyo now with such announcement ? This type of news should be communicated carefully with warning saying to get vaccinated / stay careful during the SOE.

otherwise it just mean « everything is fine guys, we have a treatment for covid19 if something happen to you and plenty of beds in hotel to welcome you »

the same day we announce we will stop the little bit of tracing and testing that was still happening in Tokyo ?
