The Japanese don’t even think about building bases to protect their own citizens. That is something that America does and America gets all of the blame for doing it.

Abe should hire the Russians to put bases on those islands to protect the Japanese from Americans who want to put bases there !

Very improper comment by Abe.

Why is Abe so desperate for a peace treaty with Russia?

One because it benefits both Japan and Russia. Two because he made it one of his political goals.

There won't be any bases built on the islands because they won't be handed over (at least the big ones) - ever. Time for Japan to accept this reality. Perhaps too much for the right-wing hardliners to swallow. When you lose a war (especially with Russia) you lose land. You don't hear Germany asking for Prussia back.

Abe is a liar and Putin’s is a highly educated ex KGB chief. Go think.

Abe dreams too much. I wouldn't give back the islands neither.

If promising no US bases, something that was never going to happen anyway, helps to get Japan's islands back, more power to ya. In the meantime, get real. Putin is never, ever, going to give them back.

The two smaller islands have been on offer for over sixty years, but Japan refused to take them. Now Abe is pretending this is some sort of a breakthrough. I suppose it is a victory over Japanese intransigence, but that is all.

Japan is just a vassal state of U.S., she has no decision making or say about  of the location of US military base or activities over her soil, sea or the air!  Japanese civilian airport has to yield the runway for US military aircraft landings or takeoff, if Abe can gurantee no US military bases on those disputed islands, this is a liar and deception! Putin understood this!

Best joke made by Abe.

Why did Russia integrated Crimea into its Federation ? Becuz they want to avoid NATO naval base there.

Putin is not naive.

First thing the americans will do is installing a base at those disputed islands if Japan gets them.
