No reason for invasion from Russia. Russia will not get any benefit from this war. But US hyped it and after all when no invasion appears, Mr sleepy will announce a historical win.

Japan per se can't do much for Ukraine. But the call was to assure Zelensky that Japan will fully back the G7 in implementing sanctions on Russia if they invade.

Absolutely correct. Except that Japan failed to achieve amendment of Article 9 in time to take advantage of a potential once-in-a-century opportunity.

The American "liberals" are pretty much pro-war all the time now. Any real liberals who speak out against war are instantly branded as right wing these days.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later Tuesday, a government source said, as Tokyo expressed "grave concern" about the risk of a Russian invasion.

He should be calling Putin instead of Zelensky to express the grave concern.

Perhaps if Japan threatened to take back the Kuril’s and Kamchatka they could finally get Russians attention for serious negotiations. Use Putins tactics on him and may be force the return of the forces hauled out of the east to threaten the Ukraine?

Japan is doing more then S. Korea.

More then Germany who's suppose to be part of EU and NATO yet refuses to take serious steps to counter Russia in its own backyard.

You complain about pacifist Japan, yet half the world wont even use sanctions or threatened Russia to stop. What you see from Japan, many countries wont even do that much. Rather do nothing and say nothing. Lets have more countries speak first before you talk about your bias view towards Japan.

Regarding how the Uk, US are hyping things up, and understandably making the Ukraine govt. nervous, I believe there's a reason for it.

For one, we don't have the intelligence they have on the matter. Maybe they ARE close to invading, who knows.

But, I think this hyping in the media "oh they're going to invade any moment". I believe this is tactical on the UK/US part.

Using the analogy of Russia being close to a cliff. They're contemplating if they should jump (invade) or not. It's a serious thing. And the last thing you want is someone behind you pushing you towards the cliff. You (Russia) want to make the decision not have someone push you towards it. Makes you not want to jump (invade) if you feel you're being pushed into it.

Good on Japan for their statements and involvement (phoning Ukraine leader). I know how delicate things are at the moment (negotiating with Russia over the 4 islands), and this surely doesn't help Japan in those negotiations with Russia (essentially taking sides against them).

All you posters saying Japan should take back the Kuriles, one even says Japan should take Kamchatka, I have some news for you. Japan's total amphibious lift capability is about one reinforced battalion. The three Osumi class landing ships carry only 300 troops each. 900 troops is the sum total of Japan's ability to land a force on beach somewhere. Good enough probably to reinforce an island Japan already controls but not nearly enough to take someone else's island. Japan has no surface to surface missiles like Tomahawk to "prep" a beach before landing and much of the Kuriles are outside the range of Japan's land based air power. The Russians have a brigade of 4000-5000 soldiers defending the Kuriles and a large number of shore based anti-ship missiles. So forget your little fantasy about retaking the Kuriles while Pootie-pooh is consumed with his Ukrainian obsession. It would be a suicide mission.
