Yep, Japan should just drill on its side of the line. If China doesn't want to play, Japan shouldn't waste its time.

I find it very interesting that the photos were taken more than a year ago, and are only being posted now! A coincidence, I think not. It is too close to Abe's new defense bill, and the 70th anniversary of the end of WW2.

It seems that Japan knows well that China might start war aggressively if it drilled nearby.

For Japan -- up the ante.

Japan is just angry that they can't seem to stop tripping over their own idiocy. Japan is the last to every party, decisions and actions take years to implement, they can't seem to even get off the starter's line. The pistol has fired, the race is on, Japan.

Stop infighting and bickering and blowing millions to pay contractors to NOT build a stadium and move! You need energy, go look for it! You can do what China is doing if you act and not debate-recess-more debate-vacation-debate-repeat.

Japan needs gas too. Desperately . With the population getting so old fast . And olds need more warm than the youngs in autumn and winter and cooler on the summer ...

Neither should be drilling. Japan is the land of the rising sun, stick solar on every roof top and never use fosile fuel again.

A lot of specialists think that there are not so much oil, and they cannot make the profit. But China can use them for the Navy. So Japan protests but does not drill.

The Chunxiao/Shirakaba, Duanqiao/Kusunoki, and Longjing/Asunaro gas fields cross territorial waters. Tianwaitian/Kashi field is securely in Chinese territorial waters. Hence, China drilling on their end also drills into a shared deposit in Japan's end, so it doesn't matter where the drilling occurs but rather where the deposits are. This falls under Cross-border unitization under UNCLOS, which is why there was a 2008 agreement for joint development between China and Japan. Why doesn't Japan drill on her side too. Whining will not go anywhere. Just do it!

Well Done Japan. Speak your mind & carry out defensive measures. What has Peaceniks got to say now - keep on kowtowing (bowing) to China? Wake up those who have not supported PM Abe's tough stand against China. Remember who has the Nukes NOW - they are China & their close ally North Korea. The US can counter balance these countries' nuclear threats - so help yourself (the Japanese people) by helping the US and also others (in the South China Sea disputes). Action speaks louder than words. IF China wants a peaceful rise than BE PEACEFUL and do not pose your threats and garb territorial waters.

If China step over anything will never back up as their nukes are standing ready for those who don't understand this.

I made the comment that experts see China's seaward expansion as a flashpoint for war and was downvoted into existence. This, paired with the Spratly Islands mess, could really start WW3.

Drilling into another's territory was seen as as a pretext for war when Iraq invaded Kuwait under Saddam Hussein. We all know the result of that.....

Wait, what? Sticking a lump of metal in the ocean and drilling into the earth is classified as developing natural resources?

it all boils down to oil and gas in these waters, this is the cause and reason for all the tension and dispute... hope they won't find a single drop of anything...
