This is why people should be very sceptical when their governments claim they can't afford to put more into pensions or health.

Besides, India has its own space program and nukes so they can easily deal with their own problems.

Giving cash to India is not such a good idea.

There is a good chance it will vaporize into personnel accounts.

India has a very well-developed pharmaceutical industry, mainly generics and biosimilars, with manufacturers taking advantage of the lack of patent protection. They have nuclear weapons, a space programme, a motor industry, a successful film industry, and a number of billionaires and rich industrialists.

Why do they need money?

@Hiro

Where are the investment opportunities in Japan?

Not in a deposit account in the post office right?

Nobody is happy with the lack of opportunity in Japan Hiro!

Most of the citizens are happy getting interest as long their government keeps paying.

Japanese get interest? Which Japan are you living in?

"India is the worlds fourth biggest economy with the largest number of millionaires of any country in the whole entire world."

Nope. India does have the largest number of people below poverty line however.

However, the government over there still spends millions on building statues and temples, while the public healthcare system is in shambles and the best Indian doctors leave for US and UK.

Hiro.

Japan rich elites are use to staying in Japan and rarely move their money out.

How many other countries receive this kind of aid?

Is it because so far India is the only country that have done deal with Japan to agree on bullet train deal?

And don't you follow the news? India had ban a lot of China businesses after the last border clash. They are now at each other throat and sending troops to borders and at sea. They had been making threat at each other for months now. Last thing China would ever do is lend them any cash nor will India ever accept them. Actually India already remove many of China influence from India and had their own companies move in to take over the market. Now that China can't invest, India need another big partner. This is where Japan comes in.

@Timeshavechanged, clearly you don't study economic. Every country has foreign debts. Is the way of business. China also own a ridiculous amount to US and is also the other around too.

And Japan is not on bankruptcy. Firstly most of Japan debts comes from their own citizens. Most of the citizens are happy getting interest as long their government keeps paying. What are they gonna do? Move to other nations with their cash? No, most live their whole life in Japan. Unlike China rich elites who are fund of hiding their asset and moving them to other nations secretly, Japan rich elites are use to staying in Japan and rarely move their money out.

Secondly Japan had made loans out to a lot of nations for the last several decades and are making profits. Thirdly while Japan might own US a lot of cash, both nations rely heavily on each other to survive. So neither nation would ever allow the other to sink.

By making loans out to other nations, their market is also open for Japan therefore making future relation and deals a lot easier.

Japan and the States are very generous and it’s a good deed! but isn’t Japan itself on the verge of Bankruptcy? The U.S. certainly is!

China should loan them the money!

....and the cost to India of the loan will be...? they seem to have forgotten to include that in the article.

also not mentioned are any caveats to the "grant aid", for instance, from whence the purchases of "high-concentration oxygen generators" .

be nice if they wouldn't always try to make it sound like altruism.....
