Japan is terrified of becoming a poor country once the war in Taiwan breaks out. The US will force Japan to intervene on behalf of Taiwan, and China will retaliate economically by enacting an economic embargo against Japan including the blockade of Taiwan straight that will certainly raise the prices of import shipping to Japan overnight. Weak Yen has already made situations worse for importing.

Any non-white country that dares to become economically strong will be knocked down. It just so happens it's China's turn.

Nope. Absolutely nothing to do with being 'non-white' and all China are doing is giving non-white nations a very bad name.

In fact fellow Chinese Muslims, Hong Kong nationals, and neighbouring Asian nations are the biggest non-white victims of non-white China.

OssanAmerika:

You're obviously too young to remember the 1970s. 1980s, 1990s. China was poor amd isolated when Japan was the 2nd largest economy in the world.

I certainly do remember the 1980s. Do you? Do you remember Vincent Chin? Do you remember how Japan was made out to be the bogeyman in the US of A because they dared to get uppity and become a major economic force rivalling US of A? Can't have that, now can we? Yellow Peril again? Every single Asian-looking person was lumped together. Vincent Chin was out to steal American jobs, right?

Any non-white country that dares to become economically strong will be knocked down. It just so happens it's China's turn.

Do me a favor.

His idea of dialogue with China and Russia happened after they left the room.

That's truly pathetic !

The door is open for the one(s) not in the room.

@OssanAmerica you seem to be arguing a point that does not exist. Japan's Bubble burst in 1992. I lived in Japan for four years after that in the 1990s. The economy stumbled along after that with some years of low growth, others of negative growth.

Yes the 1980s bubble was over in the 1990s. But Japan still remained the 2nd largest economy in the world until 2010.

In 2008 China hosted the summer olympics. In 2007 the public toilets in Beijing were still holes dug into the ground.

China's economy did not rise as soon as you seem to think. And it sure didn't do it all by itself. In 1978 Deng Xiap Ping visited Japan and begged Konosyke Matsushita to open a Panmasonioc factory in China, the first electronics factory in the country.

The Japan that could say 'No' way no more.

That was then. This is now

What does that mean? Your statement is incorrect, period. Because you weren't around to see it happening.

I'm not sure you want to count the 1990s @OssanAmerica. Japan's Bubble Economy burst in and of itself through sheer hubris and mismanagement.

The 1990s counts son. China (PRC) did not even start to improve economically until the US under the Clinton Administration (1996) supported and pushed for China to be accepted by the WTO, and that was not until 2001.

China was poor amd isolated when Japan was the 2nd largest economy in the world.

Dreaming of the past? The world goes on and what HAS been is no indication of what will be in future. The whole world is rapidly changing and those who do not want to see or know about it will have an uncomfortable awakening.

Japan is not merely some lapdog to the US…. Japan has 1 or the most sophisticated and readied military’s on the planet earth! Some of you are also ignorant to the fact that Nancy Pelosi is the 3rd most powerful person in the world as well ! She’s literally in charge of the American checkbook…. She’s 2 heartbeats away from being President! And she’s a hard left democrat who has made a career of working for a more peaceful world ! So she’s filthy rich … you’re just jealous… she was rich long before becoming a political powerhouse! China is currently acting like the baby Kim …bark and bark but knows better than to pick an actual fight with Taiwan … Japan …. And Big Daddy ! Seems China has forgotten that it was the US who saved them and got them the freedoms they still enjoy today !

The Taiwan military service is like summer camp, just 4 months. How are you supposed to build a military to defend the island with people who serve merely 4 months?

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

That was then. This is now

I'm not sure you want to count the 1990s @OssanAmerica. Japan's Bubble Economy burst in and of itself through sheer hubris and mismanagement. The Chinese economy has been driving economic growth in the region ever since providing Japan and other regional economies investment opportunity and export market opportunities.

Ah, the old ‘Japan the lapdog of the United States’ narrative again, you guys seriously need some new material.

Japan's side is very clear. It is on the side of Democratic nations, not Autocracies.

I wonder whether this is really Japan's stand or rather the pushed role to play under US occupation.

Remarkably inane question.

A prosperous, peaceful China brings huge economic benefits to the Asia region and beyond. It's hard to imagine the shape the Japanese economy would be in with a poor and isolated China.

You're obviously too young to remember the 1970s. 1980s, 1990s. China was poor amd isolated when Japan was the 2nd largest economy in the world.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Yes, a fantasy world. Japan has been in China's orbit for 1,500+ years. Neither country are going anywhere. Both nations prosper when they are at peace and suffer when there is war.

War is rarely the answer.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

That ship has sailed. Two things which China doesn't like - countries playing both sides like happobijin, and countries without a spine and which let others dictate their foreign policies.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

deanzaCCP, a peaceful China.? Is this some kind of a sick joke? So "peaceful" that they have currently surrounded Taiwan and are firing missiles over Taiwan just because they are unhappy that a US politician visited. Their ambassador to France wants to re-educate the Taiwanese people after they have invaded. Is this your idea of benefitting the Asia region?

Every single missile fired by that military dictatorship and every single comment about re-education is making the rest of Asia wake up and see exactly what they have on their doorstep.

We are better off being poorer than have any relations at all with those bullies. That's my world.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

@TigersTokyoDome. China is the #1 trading partner of Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, and the list goes on from here.

A prosperous, peaceful China brings huge economic benefits to the Asia region and beyond. It's hard to imagine the shape the Japanese economy would be in with a poor and isolated China.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Chinese public have a strong desire for war, especially with Japan. CCP simply responding to that public pressure. The fact is Chinese public would never accept peace with neighboring countries without subjugation

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Well Nancy, you really stirred up a hornets nest of trouble, then disappeared back to D.C.

she has an upcoming election and serious fraud allegations, she can’t use the “Ukraine get out of jail free” card, people are bored with that one, so she is using the China card. but she is a snake, look up her sleeve, she is hiding NK and Iran cards too.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Japans main problem that wants to sit at two chairs at the same time.

This is not possible, pls someone say to that fat buddy on photo.

You cant impose sanctions against Russia, take pro american stance than expect get cheap gas and oil as before.

You cant mess in Chinas domestic policies, took pro american stance and still be "open" for talk with China.

This is truly political schizophrenia.

Japan acting as truly american poodle.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Why?

Let China rot in it's own self-inflicted isolation from the rest of the civilised world.

So why the need for dialogue or for their business?

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Chinas idea of dialogue is what anyone else would call a monologue, though normally it resembles a frothing, spittle spraying diatribe.

Not that Japan is wrong in returning good manners for bad.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

I simply do not want to see Cold War Round 2. All parties need to chill out and find solutions. The last thing we want is to pressure China into moving closer to Russia.

Look at a map. Japan is in a dangerous neighborhood as it is. Always seek peace, but most especially on August 6.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

I am hopping that Japan and China will come to their senses and realize that their people deserve better. Conflicts will drain both nations and cause harm and hard times, Peace and prosperity are the best choice.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Dear Japan, do it for your own good..

China also wants to talk to you but without the interventionism of westerners who only use you for their own selfish benefit..

Japan's side is very clear. It is on the side of Democratic nations

No, sadly Japan, it is the lapdog of US and its circus of western-puppet nations that presume to be democratic but are full of hatred, fear and big envy against the great and unstoppable progress of the great China..

-18 ( +1 / -19 )

There are millions of Chinese with their families here now. Culturally assimilated. Japan owes so much to China. All cheap goods Made in China, neatly packed flooding markets, growing trade. Moreover, NHK is 100% pro-China (look at the way they interpret the news) so also most of locals here. US is an enemy nation by the kanji itself, right from root...Nobody will wonder if US gets back-stabbed in favor of China if - God forsake doesnt- a real conflict arises. US better guard their bases and guard Taiwan....

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

Well Nancy, you really stirred up a hornets nest of trouble, then disappeared back to D.C.

You didn’t even wait to enjoy the missile display from China on your behalf. Shame you missed it!

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Why? It is total waste of time.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

creepy creepy dialogue

5 ( +7 / -2 )

The don’t want to talk TO you Japan they wanna talk AT you unfortunately. There’s a huge difference.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

Japan's side is very clear. It is on the side of Democratic nations, not Autocracies. Like any reasonable and mature country, Japan leaves the door open to dialogue. Unlike China which clearly thinks far too highly of itself in expecting the world to accept it's selfish ways.

5 ( +17 / -12 )

Japan remains open to dialogue with China

Japan want to play with many side, without clear on which side Japan is.
