Yawn, what's the point.

Well, I'm no expert, but I believe the point is peace. Kind of important, wouldn't you agree?

To be honesty with you all, I dont think Korea wants to solve this "problem". Look what Japan has done for Korea since 1964 when she gave compensation to this nation, financial help and investment, yet Korea insist that Japan is bad and so on

Just like all human relationships, even if the person you are arguing with is being 'unreasonable' in your eyes, you will get a lot further by first quietly and listening to what the other has to say instead of just being defensive and accusing them of being stubborn.

following a collapse in relations between the neighbours.

Shame that SK and Japan can't get along better. I mean they are both allied with the U.S. and have shared adversaries in NK and China, and possibly Russia as well. IMO they are both to blame as both tend to rely on historical and simplistic appeals to nationalitic pride in place of serious/mature foreign policy.

There were no comfort woman. It is revealed as fabricated story by Asahi News Paper.

Yuya -- all I can say is I hope for your sake, and Japan's, that you are being sarcastic. Because if you are not, then with igrained willful ignorence like that in Japan, relations with SK and other Asian countries will never improve.

Increase the peace!

Countries like Singapore, Vietnam, The Philippines and other Asian nations moved on and now have good relation with Japan.

I totally agree with you.

I am from one of the countries you mentioned above, and, yes, it is plainly obvious that our people today, must be 90% at least, truly love Japan and greatly appreciate what Japan has done and contributed to our country's development in the last few decades. I have heard about what happened in the war from my grandparents, but we, especially our parents' generation and my generation, as well our government, recognize the significance of Japan's contributions to our development. The majority of us feel grateful to Japan.

jerseyboy, actually while that "there were no comfort women" statement is obviously ridiculous, it is a fact that the Asahi Shinbun had published a story of how "women" were abducted (taken by force) from a Korean island to become "Comfort Women". This story played a very big role in the Comfort Women issue evolving what it has become today. But the problem was that the source of the story later admitted that it was a fabrication. Independent investigation indicated that Korean "Men" had been recruited for a labor program from that island and that was the origin of the story. The Japanese newspaper Asahi Shinbun, despite the retraction of the story by the source, and the massive effect it had on the Comfort Women issue had never officially made a retraction of that story. Until now. At least this is how it has been explained to me.

"the good relationship between Japan and Korea"

This is the tricky part because "the good" means completely deferent between the two countries. For Koreans, it means Japan listens to whatever Koreans demand as Japan has been until recently.

intlobserver,

Are you Japanese? For which country are you speaking for?

It's amazing how 90% of people can truly love one country.

Yuya Koike, Japan is admitting that there were comfort women. But "200,000" and "forced" were fabricated by SK

Seriously, there is nothing that Japan can do for Korea unless Korea start to move on. Countries like Singapore, Vietnam, The Philippines and other Asian nations moved on and now have good relation with Japan.

Ham it up.

It would be really nice to see Japan, Korea and China getting along and working together to solve some very serious global problems. There is a lot of work to be done, and they should stop wasting time on this fighting. It only makes them all weaker on the global scale. And, all of the Asian people are paying for their failure to work on and resolve more serious issues. The time to do that is now. Stop bickering...

Could you tell me what demands Korea made and what and how Japan has done?

all issues relating to the colonial period were settled under a 1965 bilateral treaty that normalised diplomatic ties with South Korea.

Japan and South Korea vowed to “deepen communication” in the future during a rare meeting Saturday, diplomatic sources said, following a collapse in relations between the neighbours.

It will be nice the FM of two countries meet often, instead of rarely. China will get messages and maybe someday, Three countries will work together to promote peace in Asia some day. Bit it will take a long long time for Korea to change its habit of insulting Japan..
