Japan has for some time... leveled unreasonable accusations against China's normal national defense construction and military activities, made irresponsible remarks about China's legitimate maritime activities, and exaggerated the so-called China threat," foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said.

They really are having a laugh, aren’t they? Preparing an attack against the small, independent, mature, sophisticated and democratic island nation of Taiwan. In what madman’s universe is that normal, and in what sort of pathetic world do they imagine no one would care enough to push back? Delusional and dangerous. Keep talking China, you do everyone a favor.

normal.

16 ( +18 / -2 )

Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso, who said his country would "have to defend Taiwan" if the island is invaded by Beijing,

First time Aso has said anything intelligent.

Taiwan is a country that is obviously headed towards full divorce from China as an independent nation and will ultimately be globally recognized as such. Which is why China is stepping up it's plans to take Taiwan by force.

Still waiting on S.Korea comment and help when it comes to Taiwan or any other Issues not involving S.Korea directly.

Let's remember S.Korea has no Article 9. No restrictions like Japan does.

S. Korea has a military draft with millions of Korean soldiers trained well against a possible North Invasion.

S.Korea is not part of Quad Alliace to balance China.

S. Korea is not willing to help Taiwan or make any comments to upset Beijing.

S.Korea says nothing on Hong Kong, Tibet or the Muslim region.

South Korea has become an Economic Power House. Wants to surpass Japan a country much larger with twice the Population..... Yet unwilling to take more responsibility in the Region, Unwilling to even make comments against China let alone take any actions.

5 ( +14 / -9 )

Japan must make it loud and clear to Communist China: there will be NO takeover of Taiwan. And that if that happens, Japan will be sending men and women to fight shoulder to shoulder with Taiwanese to defend that peaceful, democratic island.

Dont even think about it, Commies.

Still waiting on S.Korea comment and help when it comes to Taiwan or any other Issues not involving S.Korea directly.

Why? Korea is NOT a member of QUAD, never will be. They are not on the US/Japans side. In fact, they are more tied to Communist China. They are irrelevant to this potential upcoming battle.

Still waiting on S.Korea comment

This defense paper has admitted that Korea now has a bigger defense budget than Japan in absolute term and Korea's defense budget is projected to be 50% higher than Japan by 2025.

韓国の軍備増強についても触れた。既に日本の防衛費を上回るとしたうえで「将来の日韓の防衛予算を試算すると25年に差は1.5倍に広がる」と説明した。

Why?

Because Korea is now the most militarily powerful adversary faced by China in East Asia.

Taiwan is a country that is obviously headed towards full divorce from China as an independent nation and will ultimately be globally recognized as such. Which is why China is stepping up it's plans to take Taiwan by force.

The survival of the CCP is very far from guaranteed. They have massive demographic problems and have created (for no good reason) internal enemies among the Tibetans, Uyghurs and now the Inner Mongolians. Most Chinese are frustrated with their lot in life and the heavy restrictions they are forced to live with by the CCP. There is no love for their government. There are something on the order of 60 million unsold housing units built with borrowed money sitting there with no owner paying the mortgage on them. On the occasions when the sales price of unsold units in a big development were lowered to attract buyers, existing owners rioted fearing the value of their own homes would fall so much they would be under water on their loans. State Owned Industries operate at huge losses. There banking system is absorbing all these losses but for how long? I would wager that if Taiwan and the US play their cards right the democratic government in Taiwan may very well outlast the CCP.

6 ( +12 / -6 )

So... what? The US should just take Japan's cue and label Taiwan as part of China under it's 外務省 and not have the spine to officially call it an independent nation, nor protect it? Will that help tensions in the region for Japan?

LOL. That would be the end of China as we know it when the United States (the only county to have used nuclear weapons in war and had plans to nuke 5 Chinese cities during the Korean War )retaliates under Article 5 of the US-JPN Mutual Defense Treaty. Absolute suicide.

8 ( +15 / -7 )

Douglas MacArthur had a plan to dump 5 or 50 nuclear devices all over China during the Korean war 1951! And then US secretary of State Dulles even didnt want to shake hands with "Chou EnLai"(Then Chinese Premier) during they met! But 70years afterwards China has emerged to be a nuclear power that her mobile/silo ICBMs,SLBMs were capable hitting back across the Pacific! So the US nuclear blackmail doesnt working much! B.T.W. during the Vietnam war, China has provided weapons to VietCong and shot down US jets intrusion of Chinese airspace, the U.S. choose to normalrize the Sino US relationship! That was no coincidence: Power says all!

-12 ( +4 / -16 )

Why is China thirsty to commit another genocide of the Taiwanese . Having two already, One genocide on the world with the attack China pocks ( COVID ) and the other on the Urgyars. This will not end well for the Chinese Communist. How long until China is put back in it box is the question.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

@John san The so called "Geinocides" were myths and smeraing against China and Chinese people! When you cant beat your enemy, just fabricates some LIES to scare off the innocence to stay away that rival and benefits your own! Is that simple trick! I am very optimistic the relations between China and Taiwan, they were brothers , just it was an obstacle that obstructing their normal relations; The DPP (Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party) They are a foreign regime and they were leading Taiwan at the wrong way! Once that ruling DPP has gone and the KMT(Nationalist Party) back to stage, things will calm down! The former Taiwan President (Ma Ying Jiu) is a good friend of China!

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

Elephant: Chinese Communist I stated. What I stated is not lies, Truths mate, Comrade Mao stave 3 million. What is that ? 1/2 a genicide, I have not mention the great wall of genicide. If you don't think that COVID was a plan genicide you must be on another planet . Urygars genicide is Why Muti national company will not deal with product from that area of China. Companies take profits and margins very serious. Comrade Jinping make Stalin and Hittla look lie amateurs.

A more important issue is the ruthless snuffing out of democracy by China. It’s time for everybody to have a serious discussion about the selfish gorilla in the room.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Japan should take care about own business.

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

What everyone should do is stopping recognition of the PRC as the China and recognise the ROC (Taiwan) as the real China.

The CCP controlled PRC is a lie starting by its name, it is not for the people, it is not a republic and it is not China!

South Korea will never go to war on China but will go to war with China. South Korea will never go to war with Japan but will go to war on Japan. South Korea is not a friend. We smile shake hand and do business deal with South Korea. Korea are the descendants of the Song and latter the Han Chinese. When Kubla Kane was made Emperor of the Han. Korea ended their close alliance with the Han and were made slave in their on land. Once the Han lost their power over the South eastern Chinese people, Korea again renew the Korea/ China alliance.

Thousands of years of humiliation on Koreans by Chinese, and yet, they feel good and forget those if they think they have some to step on. You can start with Korean historical dramas into serious study if you like.

The Triangle made up with CCP's self claimed CHINA and North and South Korea is totally different from any other parts of ASIA.

It is. If Taiwan is taken by force by the Chinese there is little left to stop China from also taking Japan by force. Don't be naive. China burns for revenge and will attack Japan the very second they think they can do so successfully. That threat is real.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

@John-San

You need some history education.

Korea are the descendants of the Song and latter the Han Chinese.

Koreans are ethnically and linguistically unrelated to Han Chinese.

When Kubla Kane was made Emperor of the Han. Korea ended their close alliance with the Han

Kublai Khan decided to end the 40 year war against Korea with a marriage alliance of sending Mongolian princesses to Korea starting with his granddaughter, and this made subsequent Korean kings 6th ranking claimants to the Yuan dynasty throne.

@KennyG

Thousands of years of humiliation on Koreans by Chinese

What are you talking about? The last time China and Korea went to war before the Korean War was late 660s. The reason there was historical complete lack of Chinese in Korea is because Chinese were banned from immigrating to Korea until 1880s. Both side kept a friendly relations, but kept strictly to themselves.

@Desert Tortoise

China burns for revenge and will attack Japan the very second they think they can do so successfully.

And can you blame China for wanting to seek revenge against Japan? What steps has Japan taken to apologize for his past historical crimes against its Asian neighbors and seek reconciliation?

If Japan was really really afraid, then Japanese PMs would visit Nanjing and bow in front of the Nanjing Massacre memorial, apologize to survivors in person, teach Japanese children the vivid details of the crimes of Imperial Japan, and make history denial a crime just like in Germany.

But what Japan's rightwinger politicians are doing is stoking the desire to seek revenge among Japan's neighbors, two of which are now militarily far more powerful than Japan.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

And can you blame China for wanting to seek revenge against Japan?

Considering that Mao's forces hid from the Japanese from 1937 onward only very occasionally engaging them in combat but often telling the Japanese where KMT forces were located and their strength, I have no affinity for the CCP. Mao was a coward. He expected the Soviets to enter the war and drive the Japanese out for him while his forces rested. In the meantime Mao was telling the Japanese where KMT forces, the land army that bore the brunt of the war against Japan in China, were located hoping the Japanese would deplete Chiang Kai-sheks forces sufficiently during the war that defeating them after the war would be easy. Yet these same cowards now claim they helped beat Japan when in fact they hid and did nothing. Do not trust the CCP. They will stab you in the back. They stabbed their own in the back during WWII.

While South Korea could certainly defeat North Korea absent Chinese intervention, the same is not true if the South Koreans faced off against China. Absent a very large US response and the threat of nuclear retaliation the Chinese could dominate the Korean peninsula if they chose to do so. Chinese generals learned a lot watching CNN during Desert Storm and their equipment and training reflect those lessons. The PLA was organized and equipped much like Iraq back then and they were horrified to see how easily US, UK and French forces defeated them. They do not want to be rolled over the way Saddam's forces were.

No, that is incorrect. The Yuan Dynasty invaded Korea circa 1230-1250 ish and defeated the Goryeo Dynasty of Korea. Henceforth Korea became a tributary vassal state of Yuan Dynasty until the Yuan Dynasty fell apart and the Koreans were able to restore their independence. The Ming Dynasty replaced the Yuan and had close trade and diplomatic relations with Korea. Later on during the Jin Dynasty and again during the Qing Dynasty invaded and conquered Joeson. The Qing forced Joeson into submission in 1644. The Qing strength was drained away by the Opium Wars, giving Joeson the opportunity to free themselves of Qing rule.

In writing, the Chinese character system was used in Korea from its introduction during the Tang Dynasty until King Sejong the Great introduced Hangul.

This won't fly well for Japan. Problem is, they don't even have decent military to back up such big statement. Japan rely heavily on the military of U.S. and its allies. Japan should've either be silent or keep all these stuff classified.

If you think the most powerful in East Asia is Japan, then no, Japan isn't even comparable to India or SK. The pacifist leaning population and existence of article 9 is the reason why Japan is very lacking in military department.

If you think the most powerful in East Asia is Japan, then no, Japan

The most powerful in East Asia is China. The most powerful Pacific nation is the United States. Only Koreans make such ridiculous claims. Without the U.S., South Korea can not stand up to China.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

This won't fly well for Japan. Problem is, they don't even have decent military to back up such big statement.

Eh, qualitatively the JMSDF is probably the second best navy in the world equal in most ways to the US Navy (and better in my opinion than the Royal Navy) but lacking in organic air power, logistics ships and amphibious ships. Japans big DDGs and their new Mogami class frigate are as good as any in the world. The Mogamis might be the most advanced frigate ever in any navy with a very innovative combat center. From experience the JMSDF is about the best ASW force in existence.

The PLAN has numbers and some of the equipment looks good on the surface but you can tell the Chinese have not fought a war at sea with steel ships. Ever. Japanese and US ships very much reflect the experiences of combat at sea as they are stuffed full of damage control features and equipment. PLAN ships are more like merchant ships with fancy false overheads, flush lighting and wood trim that looks nice and burns even better. Oh, and where are the fire hoses, applicators, shoring, plugs, wedges, breathing apparatus, low light cameras for seeing through smoke, battle lanterns, de-watering pumps and such that line the passageways of American and Japanese warships? And I still chuckle at the sight of roll around office chairs in Chinese ships. This is the hallmark of a coastal navy because a roll around chair is the very last thing you want to sit in when your ship is in a big north Pacific swell. There are good reasons US and Japanese ships have their combat center chairs bolted to the deck. Same in the mess decks.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Based on a media visit in Hong Kong China's new aircraft carrier uses electronic door locks that require the user to press their smart card to the door reader to open the door just like the security controls in many offices. I laughed reading this. Ships that take hits often lose power. Now what? Trapped in a burning and/or flooding space unable to get out? Damage control teams unable to access burning or flooding spaces due to a de-energized door lock? Have to chop down the door. Stuff that works in a shore based office often isn't a good idea at sea.

China has stated they will nuke Japan if Japan defends Taiwan.

Is this true? How come we hear no response from PM Suga?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

China has stated they will nuke Japan if Japan defends Taiwan.

China has made the same threat to Australia. It is a hollow threat. If China did do that the US would promptly return the favor with interest and China as we know it would cease to exist. China and every other nuclear power will not risk nuclear annihilation. They will look for ways to achieve their military goals that fall just below the threshold that would push the US to use nuclear weapons. Likewise the US. Imagine for example a Chinese invasion attempt on Taiwan broken up by a combination of sea mines, US (and maybe UK, Australian and Japanese) subs, long range missiles and airstrikes aimed at the attacking force. Would China go nuclear at that point? Probably not. So the US and its allies look for ways to stop a Chinese attack that is limited to the immediate area around Taiwan and uses only conventional weapons.

During the latter days of the Cold War there was a growing line of thought that the US would use it's B-2s and F-117s to greatly reduce the USSRs long range nuclear arsenal using strictly conventional weapons. A B-2 using conventional precision munitions with heavy penetrator warheads could hit Soviet ICBM silos blowing them open to destroy the missile inside while F-117s could hunt their mobile missile launchers both without being detected by Soviet radars. Soviet SSBNs were always targeted at all times (most were tailed during their patrols) and would likewise be eliminated by US Navy subs. It was a big deal back then for the US Navy to know where every single Soviet sub was at all times and be prepared to sink their SSBNs very quickly in the event of a war. It was thought that the Soviet's could be stripped of much of their nuclear arsenal without the US having to use any nuclear weapons to do so, leaving the Soviets unable to mount a credible nuclear attack while NATO armies pushed Soviet ground forces back. The thought was that if NATO ground forces could hold on for 5 to 7 days while US reinforcements arrived (practiced annually with those REFORGER exercises) and nobody went nuclear NATO could defeat a Soviet invasion of the west without having to employ nuclear weapons. Some of those tactics are still valid in context of a war with the Chinese btw and they have a lot fewer ICBMs and SSBNs to deal with than the USSR had.

The US can retaliate but it is already too late after Hiroshima-Nagasaki Part 2 for Japan.
