China and Russia probably did it for their audiences back home, who are the biggest threats to their autocracies.

That’s because China and Russia are the enemy. And they’re poking. It’s lucky I’m not PM. They’d get two warnings, then I’d shoot them out the sky.

Like two stupid bullies in the playground trying to scare everybody.

China and Russia…

Nobody wants to be you and your own populations want out.

Trying to shoot planes down in international airspace, brilliant! /s

What is the problem???

-16 ( +7 / -23 )

China and Russia think they scare the west. Not even close.

A fighter jet was circling over my little town yesterday, which is quite rare. Maybe it was a response to the "bad guys."

The Cold War was a confrontation between the U.S.-led block of the West and the Soviet Russia-led block of the East. At first glance, the confrontation appeared an ideological one between democracy and communism. But no, it wasn't.  It was a geopolitical conflict between the West represented by the U.S. and the East represented by Russia or, maybe, China, these days.  Ideology doesn't come into play here because both Russia and China aren't communist states anymore.

Probably, the conflict is like that between a Russian tsar and/or Chinese Emperor and a U.S. populism. History repeats itself, never changing its nature. Human beings may be rushing to the apocalypse.

both Russia and China aren't communist states anymore.

China under Xi Jinping is reverting back to Communism. Xi is a Maoist true believer. Read his speeches. He makes claims that history has proven Marx and Lenin correct and that capitalism is destined to fail. He claims China is on the path to communist perfection. He favors the state run industries over private firms and is increasingly repressing private enterprise having stripped several of the wealthiest Chinese entrepreneurs of control of the very companies they founded. He wears Zhongshan suits just as Mao did and calls himself Chairman. Now Xi is talking about wealth redistribution. Russia may not be communist but China never really fully abandoned it, and now is turning its back on capitalism for a communist revival. It will be interesting to see if the three factions who most strongly oppose Xi are able to stop him from having a third term as General Secretary and PRC President. If Xi gets that third term expect more repression of private industry and greater repression of the average Chinese.

Russia and China have made it clear !

Surprised North Korea didn't spout off some missile tests at the same time.

Biden would be flabbergasted with another tongue tied senior moment extravaganza.

American jets are constantly flying extremely close to China. I remember one had to land in Hainan. China was nice enough to hand back the junk to Amerika.

Voiceofokinawa

Yes China was involved in the cold war - hence the fact their not communist any more.-duh!

They did.

The US flies reconaissance planes near other countries. They are unarmed intel gathering craft. The Chinese and Russians are flying Bombers and Fighters which could be armed. Big difference.

The Hainan Incident was in 2001, a US spy plane EP-3 was confronted by two J-8s from the Chinese PLA Air Force and a Chinese pilot caused a collision while trying to challenge it. One Chinese pilot died, and the EP-3 made it to Hainan Island where it was taken apart for study by the Chinese before returning it in pieces.

Two Chinese bombers joined two Russian bombers in the Sea of Japan and made a joint flight to the East China Sea,"

This cold war mentality and zero sum behavior by China and Russia will achieve nothing.

Sound familiar? It is what China trots out when the US and Japan have joint maneuvers, or do so with others. I guess it is just as appropriate when the shoe is on the other foot.

This is how they send messages to others. Use military hardware to conduct close fly by, or sail by of those you want to get the message.

The only thing it really accomplishes is to train crews and wear out equipment. Everyone does that.

They were not ‘fighter jets’ as in the headline. They were bombers; the Russian ones were not jets but turbo props.

As QUAD meets, China and Russia become alert.

It has revealed that Australian new leader's diplomatic debut at QUAD meeting signals his predecessor's continuity.

No matter the leader is Liberal or Labor, it is never going to be able to walk out from the long & dark shadow as well as the demand of dictating US.

As long as they follow airspace rules, this is just like all freedom of navigation runs performed everywhere in the world by any other country.

This is how the game is played. Russia and America have been flying at each other's borders a few times every week for decades. Before Russia, it was the USSR.

The title is misleading. A "fighter jet" isn't the same as a "bomber". They have different missions. Bombers change the world, after some other issue starts a conflict.

Curtail buying from China. There will be sacrifices. But they need to happen. Not like we aren't doing that already. China needs massive amounts of resources and food to keep their country running. Cut them off. Enough is enough. Put them in their place.

according to article chinese/russian planes did not enter japanese air space and did not violate any rules...so why this suppose to be considered as "newsworthy"...?

-2 ( +7 / -9 )

The Chinese and Russians did the same to South Korea this week. All this is chest thumping while Biden is in Northeast Asia.

"South Korea's military said it scrambled fighter jets after at least four Chinese and four Russian warplanes entered its air defense zone.

The aircraft, which included fighter jets and bombers from each side, did not violate South Korea's airspace, it said."

The Russians do this constantly in Northern Europe too. I guess you have to keep these things exercised, and any little excuse (like a Quad meeting) will serve.

who are the biggest threats to their autocracies.

Russia is a democracy with 85% support for their elected president. It is no longer part of the USSR as may believe.

The USA and NATO have a proxy war with Russia in Ukraine, and many US senators, congressman/women have publicly stated the the US is technically at war with China and cannot let China become a world leader at any cost. So, what do you think Russia and China would do? Surrender?

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

This is not news. China and Russia do fly bye on almost a daily basis.

Russia's "democracy" is about as democratic as the Democratic Republic of Korea, and the rigged election of Belarus. Any country can claim to be democratic, but the proof is in how much voting power the people ACTUALLY have without interference. Putin has been in power one way or another for 20+ YEARS. He is filthy stinkin rich while many average Russians aren't doing very well. Putin's kleptocratic buddies are also filthy stinking rich. Boris Yeltsin was equally corrupt, and Putin claimed he was going to fix the corruption, but just ended up replacing it with his own.

What is the problem???

@Kyo wa heiwa dayo ne you must be working over time today!! Russia and China flying machines are nothing but metal. Russia is getting knocked out of the air, if China makes aircraft like any of the crap they send abroad we know they won't stand the test of a dog fight!!! Rest assure Biden didn't lose any sleep!

Russia and China have made it clear !

Surprised North Korea didn't spout off some missile tests at the same time.

I think it's hilarious that anyone would think that this is a "Japanese" news site. I doubt there are more than 2 or 3 Japanese people reading this site and posting on this forum.*
