Abe jumped through hoops to make time to meet with Trump and blasted it all over the news here! Abe taking charge, Abe being a leader, Abe this, Abe that, but when it comes down to it, Abe in reality is following on the coattails of Trump when it comes to NK.

Abe should fly to Vietnam and tell Kim directly whats on his heart

and watch Trump reaction.

@smith. 1300 phone poll says his popularity increased to 46%. He doesn’t need to stoop so low. The remaining 10 or so abducties are probably married with grandchildren and have a life? Impossible to come back to japan. They will be paraded at Nippon kaigai media events like panda bears.

"It may be difficult to hold (direct) summit talks (with Trump) due to tight schedules, but through a phone conversation, we will closely coordinate our policies over the issues of nuclear weapons, missiles and abductions, the latter of which is the most important for Japan,

actually shinzo, Trump couldn't give 2 farts and a martini about you

Sorry, but all Trump cares about is scrapping of ICBMs capable of reaching Guam, Hawaii and US mainland. Kim can keep the rest as far as Trump is concerned.

Trump has told you this in private? How do you come by this inside information that seems to contradict all surface evidence?

HAMBERDERS?!

One needs to distract from a criminal investigation, one wants a free vacation, and one needs to seem relevant. They all fail at being leaders, so they want to put on a repeat performance to boost their falling popularity. Same nonsense different day!

The only way that NK will change is a regime change from within. The military would need to overthrow the KIm dynasty.

Can we trade Abe for Trump?

Abe to Trump: "Tell them to return all the Japanese they abducted in the 50s, 60s and 70s and there were no forced Korean comfort women during WWII".

Akie Today  07:02 am JST Abe needs a new start of dealing with neighbors. Don't call around the world, just call neighbors, as simple as that.

PM Abe wants to host a big Summit for Chairman Kim, principally to negotiate the return of Japanese kidnappees, in return for Japanese big investment. But Kim refused to attend a summit. That is why Trump must do the negotiations on behalf of Japan. So far, he is doing very well.

I keep writing to Tump bombarding him and his minions to solve Japan abducting children with foreign fathers crimes. Japan is now on an international child abduction blacklist but it hasn't changed it ways. Please write to Trump the more the better.

The issue of abductions was adressed years ago and is a closed issue for NK. There are no living Japanese in NK who were abducted. Japan can either accept that or live in denial.

What North Korea promised to re-investigate the issue in 2014 for? I know. to keep milking Japan.

I know they wouldn't even hesitate to kill them all to make lies real story with complete stupid plays to send someoneelse's ashes back to Japan

I think Abe is going to have some initiatives this year, even some breakthroughs.

I thought that the the abduction issue had been solved.

The issue of abductions was adressed years ago and is a closed issue for NK. There are no living Japanese in NK who were abducted. Japan can either accept that or live in denial. As for other issues Japan has with NK, they will need to deal directly with Kim to sort it out.

Trump may bring up Japans issues but will do nothing to resolve them, especially if it takes effort. Trump is lazy and wont put in any effort at all for other nations. He puts in a bare minimum for his own country.

Told you! Yesterday when they cancelled the port stop by SK I said any time Abe needs to bolster his popularity he brings up NK and specifically talks about dealing with the abduction issue (actually, he's vowed to resolve it more than 20 times). He's cancelled the port call, which makes Japan suffer militarily, and the upcoming tax hike and government comments are unpopular, so it's time to go back to the old issue.

Yubaru, don't underestimate adaptive Abe. He isn't a good strategist, but a good technician.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

Talk about a fly in ointment. The only end result of japanese involvement at this point in time is failure.

-4 ( +7 / -11 )

Wonder what Abe will offer in return?apology and compensation for raping thousands of girls and women, sticking by article 9, cancellation of US attack-jets and cruise missiles?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Ganbare Japan!, Abe should start with something easier for both NK and Japan. I believe Abe understands that and at some point he will make a move.

Samit Basu, don't worry. Japan has some money in the bank to buy out the nuclear weapons and missiles. Safety is always the number one issue for Japanese people. and the govt know that.

Sorry, but all Trump cares about is scrapping of ICBMs capable of reaching Guam, Hawaii and US mainland. Kim can keep the rest as far as Trump is concerned.

Japan is on its own with regards to short-range ballistic missiles, and Abe will have to cut a separate deal with Kim by offering tens of billions. Trump won't cut a ballistic missile deal for Japan.
