Japan, Singapore to keep TPP free trade pact's high standards

Don't like Singapore but nice news nonetheless.

The reason why Trump canned it is revenge politics because he hates Obama because Obama made fun of Trump during the WH correspondents dinner. Cancelling TPP didn't make sense just like when Trump decided to cancel Net Netrality rules. It was just revenge and took steps backwards. A lot of Trump people think that Obama invented TPP and that is 100% not true.

Singapore was reported to have welcomed China's bid to join the deal following a phone call between Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Chinese President Xi Jinping in mid-October.

Singapore cannot be trusted. They want to have Communist China in this exclusive club, which would destroy the free trade pact completely.

Admit Taiwan, NOT Communist China.

South Korea has already shown it's colors with Japan when it comes to signing agreements today and backing away tomorrow. Illegally seizing assets from Japanese companies in SKorea, over historical issues from ww2, which we paid multiple times and apologies over 50 times.

We would be rewarding their leader Moon Jae In's, same guy who is responsible for backing away from the 2015 comfort woman deal, should be avoided at all cost!

Actually there is sound basis for such a position. And that is SKorea's refusal to submit export documentation in order to remain on Japan's "White List", which allowed for facilitated and expedited trade. South Korea was the only Asian country to be on this list. If this behavior is indicative of South Korea's attitude towards Trade Agreements, I would seriously think about having them join.

Well they cant maintain the "high standards of the deal" if they allow China in. China is already breaking deals it signed in good faith so with their proven record of broken trade promises should rule them out completely.

There is much anti South Korea sentiment in Japan as shown by @ReasonandWisdomNippon so they may face opposition from Japan for their entry, but the other members will have no issue with South Korean entry.

Taiwan and UK should be popular with all members and should gain easy entry unless China manages to pressure even one member to keep Taiwan out.

More than one poster here has shown a dislike of South Korea. As a Neutral party I make no decisions on right ot wrong on the matter of WWII compensation, and reparations between states, nor between companies and individuals used as slave labor by those companies. I do not see anything worrying about South Korea joining the TPP as they have no history of issues with anyone else in the TPP.

Taiwan can join, UK has nothing to trade, the other two can go hike

If you haven't noticed the countless posters here who post just to bash Japan no matter what, I hardly think you can call yourself neutral. In the case of SK, Japan has negotiated and acted in good faith. SK has not, so any neutral person shouldn't be surprised.

I have noticed those who do not side with Japan and those who do not side with South Korea. More anti South Korea than anti Japan here but on a Japanese site that is to be expected. Just because I state my opinion that is not outright favoring japan you question my neutrality. That is an incorrect assumption and does nothing to alter my perspective that nations other than Japan will have no issue with including South Korea in the TPP.
