I hope everything would be fine. If not, then Abe has to go, because Japan can't accept a loser as a PM.

retaliate? close to 50% of your ENTIRE economy is based on the US. What are you going to do? Import less US cars? Import less US vegetables? Those numbers are close to zero already

Did you mean 5%? According to the link below, trade represents less than 25% of Japan's GDP, and the US accounts for less than 20% of that trade.

I’m sure Abby will resolve this over a game of golf with trumps.

The U.S should drop its tariffs against all countries apart from China imo. China must be the focus. Trying to fight a war a dozen fronts its stupid. We have already seen an example of how allies can be utilized and gain benefit themselves when at least 2 of the 5 sorghum shipments bound for China, were bought by Japanese firms. Now they are saying that if U.S producers can the prices down to, or below corn and wheat, Japan may up its purchases of U.S sorghum very considerably. This is an example of what can happen when you maintain your other friendships and partnerships. You can offset your loses. Same applies to Europe.

The U.S administration, if it was smart, would be using this opportunity to talk up increasing economic relations with its traditional partners and others outside of China. New investments etc. And directing U.S business to examine the opportunities outside of China which are huge. Why is this never done??? Crazy.

Because Trump is a retard. Why did we walk out of TPP? Why are we concerned about ZTE? Solving the defict with China alone solves most of our problems without entering into conflict with EU, Japan, Mexico etc. Trump busy making China great again.

Vice PM Aso is tough and powerful, he will never back down from a fight and is angry at US. Expect big punishment against the US fruit, wine, meat and soybean farmers, to make them suffer. Also, put big taxes 200%) on all US whisky.

All these governments and all the China haters, keep bashing China , why ? it used to be Japan that used to be the whipping boy. All the big corporations made China what is is today because they all outsourced their manufacturing to China decades ago. Doesn't anyone remember all those jobs lost, never to return. Political leaders didn't complain when their corporate donations and lobbying money kept rolling in, payback hurts, but not those in power but the people they are supposed to represent. so if you need to vent your anger. look at those corporations who made billions of whatever currency , then banked it offshore so as not to pay taxes, not reinvest and create jobs, he crooked political elite, who by the way, are elected by us, we are part of the problem Big corporations, banks, and financial systems run the world and the political systems. Shareholders they just sit back and do nothing as long as the profits keep rolling in, politicians only think of themselves, not all to be fair. Whats the answer, I've no idea, but leaders have to be held accountable. The World is full of problems, to many to mention and probably the worst I have ever seen in my lifetime. I worry for my children and my grandchildren what does the future hold for them ?

Asia's primary representative democracy v Asia's primarily authoritarian dictatorship and surveillance state.

Comparing apples and oranges from a U.S and Western perspective.

Not to mention that the U.S has a massive trade deficit with China and China is not even remotely open to free and fair trade even though they talk a lot of nonsense about it. That applies to all their economic relationships, not just the U.S. As I have said many times, Europe complains about exactly the same problems in China as do many other countries.

Why are we concerned about ZTE?

I read elsewhere that the U.S congress has overruled Trump on this and the sanctions against ZTE will remain.

American first, and the rest of the world go to hell-US foreign policy. Why does the world continue to kowtow to the US? The world need to sideline the US and let it go its own way. End US dictatorship, aggression and constant wars.

How can it be an American first and go to hell policy? You do realize that both China and Japan operate huge trade surpluses with the U.S. If what you said were true, why would they not just cancel all imports and get what they want from elsewhere? Try to be logical.

The WTO was established in 1995, taking over from Gatt, which had overseeing of international trade since 1948 and over 160 countries are member states.

Recently the losers of global trade and global capitalism have been pointed out as ‚small scale, about everything from farming to the shop next door to small countries. Now the top dog cries foul. We might need new ideas.

I like how they have to wait for Trump's permission.

You do realize that both China and Japan operate huge trade surpluses with the U.S.

Japan is only 4th largest of US imports and 4th largest of US exports.  Hardly to be compared with China.

close to 50% of your ENTIRE economy is based on the US.

Japanese exports to US is only 2.6 % of Japanese GDP ($130B vs $4.94T). Japan is the least export dependent economy after US among developed countries.

Japanese export is 4th largest ($605B) in the world, but Japanese import is also 5th largest ($583B) in the world. The Japan's trade surplus ($22B) is 0.4% of GDP ($4.94T).

It's not about trade, but it's about the fact that what they perceive as the "traditional' western powers of the world are getting a rivalry. They like countries like Japan because they know they're under control.

They can't see that their insistence of using sanctions against another country is reflecting weakness. That's what countries do when they can't compete.
