@turbotsat, wiktionary's line of reason doesn't make it right. Grammar and plurality in English is a pointless argument in Japan. They'll never get it right, and I know teachers and professors who are almost perfectly bilingual who often get something wrong. It's not a big deal; more humorous than anything. We've all seen how the Japanese mangle English. My favorite, on a rack of naval-related sweatshirts for sale in a high-end retail store was 'Ensing', instead of 'Ensign". But, there are hundreds more, as we all know. Let's live with it and laugh a little, but not publicly.

By the way, native American people's first language is not English. They have languages of their own. Respecting their wish, Europeans and Asians dependents of late comers in USA do not say they are native Americans. So, Yamaguchi san is Japanese American or American or Japanese.
