I'm pretty certain the US is quite happy to see Japan enter that market. The article doesn't specify the system but some reading says it is the FPS-3 system. One article mentions that both the US and Israel were consulted before approving the sale and the US is happy to see Japan selling military equipment to Philippines as a means to increase bilateral security ties. Also US systems that do the same job are much more costly and complex, more than Philippines can afford.

The Philippines kicked the U.S. Military out but they still want the U.S. to protect them so now the people of the small island of Okinawa have to bear the burden of hosting U.S. Military Bases to defend them and the Japanese Taxpayers have pay the cost to defend them. Not true. While the US doesn't have the sorts of bases it once had, "little Americas" with the service members families living in base housing, shopping in military run exchanges and commissaries, grabbing a sandwich at Subway or eating at the Officers Club, driving cars brought over from the US, the US has five austere bases from which it operates in the Philippines. US Navy still makes port calls in Subic Bay. The old Cubi Point Naval Air Station is now a big FedEx hub for the regions (something that greatly angered China when FedEx chose there over someplace in China) but the runways are used daily and well maintained.

Sorry but I do not buy your argument. The US military is in Okinawa to protect Okinawa and mainland Japan. Perhaps you would prefer to be governed from Beijing? I am certain the Chinese military members never drink, have no sex drive and their aircraft are noiseless and never crash. Who could ask for more?

I first came to Okinawa in 1967 as a member of the UI.S. Army Special Forces and I have lived here as a civilian since 1971 and worked on the U.S. Bases on Okinawa for over 40 years until I retired. The U.S. Bases on Okinawa are not just for the defense of Okinawa and Mainland Japan, they would also be used for the defense of the Philippines, Taiwan and other countries in the area. The U.S. Bases on Okinawa have been used for every U.S. war from Korea including Vietnam, the Gulf War and the war in Iraq an Afghanistan.

Only if Japan agrees. That has never been assured either, nor the bases on mainland Japan. You know that too.
