Japan would do well to stay out of Donny's self-inflicted problems. Hell, most countries would do well to stay out of problems caused by Donny's incompetence.

Unrealistic Japan's peace constitution must be changed. Is Japan going to depend on U.S. Forces to defend own country forever?

YES!

@Chip Star

Little as I like Trump, the problems in the ME are not of his making only. Both the Democrats and Republicans have worked to expand wars for the benefit of the MIC. Prime Minister Abe is just a willing pawn in their game of regime change for the purpose of keeping oil within the grasp of leaders chosen by the US and UK.

I think much of what we have today goes back to the British (1914-1956) prior to American involvement after WWII.

Actually Japanese tanker was attached at Hormuz. It's not a tentative situation. No action is not allowed. At least SDF should go to the patrol missions.

Dragging Japan into endless conflict and ramping up the tensions. Yeah.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Silly comments about 'Donny' are just dumb. If one pays attention to the situation here and sees how the US positioned itself to be even more less reliant on oil from this region. Japan should rethink their policy here if they still need this oil here.

Japan SDF should protect their own ships there from pirates/terrorists if it thinks these are the most import for Japan's economy whatever. This is Not war. Better not depend on US military.

Not self-inflicted, they've been a long time in coming, this was going to happen sometime, Trump has decided to deal with it now rather than leave it to his next term or the next president.

Another option would be to cooperate and contribute to security in the region being as how Japan depends on that oil coming out of there.

Do the Japanese people really want to follow the US into never ending wars and military disputes? Japan should continue to build friendly and mutually beneficial relationships with the nations of the Middle East and get out from under the heel of Washington.

Much of where the Middle East is at today is because of Amrican policy in the region since the end of WW2.

That is utterly false! Like most of the world, the problems either began with or made worse by the British and other European countries after colonialism. Especially when the British carved up that area creating borders and countries putting people together that didn't really get along. For example, giving the converted European Jewish communities fleeing other Europeans an entire country and displacing the actual indigenous people of the area because they helped fund the European war effort and they wanted to avoid refugees poring into their own European countries. The "Middle East" was just East Africa until the Europeans and their WWs came along.

Most of the modern conflicts in the ME is because of British/European decisions and later followed by US meddling.

No, Dump is trying to get re-elected and doing whatever it takes to satisfy the people who will help him get re-elected. More intelligent people are just taking advantage of his insecurities.

He is still clammering for some recognition and respect from World leaders and Dictators that have none for him. Not to mention, he wants to beat Pres. Obama because Pres. Obama was quite successful as a president, and he made Dump look like a fool at a dinner party. This was after Dump started attacking Pres. Obama to get TV ratings and renegotiate with NBC. Dump can dish it, but he can't take it. Thin skin and all!

Ever seen another little man so obsessed with getting a Nobel Peace Prize?

All countries, selfishly perhaps, will consider what's best for themselves first. Japan already has its options which it can't reveal before hand.

With the promiscuty brought about by globalization, it'll be a grave mistake for one to look at events as isolated in particular corners of the world. Especially now that alliances have been formed, countries have moved men of war and steel to different corners prepositioning themselves for any eventuality.

Japan, is a special case, its historical baggage that causes a caustic relations with its neighbors renders it vulnerable were it to go it alone. Should the SHTF in the Gulf of Hormuz, its energy supply, as many others too, will take a hit and the long distance is a logistical nightmare in times of distress, and , who knows, the ripples of air from the flapping wings of the butterfly out there may cause a catastrophic typhoon out here in the Far East. Thus Japan has to tread with extra caution.

[ Japan will consider options if the United States seeks cooperation in safeguarding commercial shipping in the Middle East following recent attacks on oil tankers in the area, Japanese officials said Wednesday. ]

It was never clearly proven that Iran was behind the attacks, yet the media and the Japanese government (who earlier pledged to wait for conclusive evidence before taking a stance) plow ahead as though it were...which obviously implicates that this was their intention all along.

I hope that such a coalition would also protect Iranian shipping from being kidnapped by outlaw states such as the UK and Egypt

2 ( +3 / -1 )

If Japan wants to go and aid Iran then that is their right!

We are at this point because Donny ripped up the nuclear deal without having any clue what to do after and then started choking Iran's economy.

I hear the terrorist group Hezbollah has had difficulty receiving money from Iran recently. Must be Chip Star is aghast.

I hear the terrorist group Hezbollah has had difficulty receiving money from Iran recently.

I hear the Trump administration arms and allies itself with the terrorist sponsoring Saudi Arabian state. Not to mention the apartheid and ethnic cleansing state of Israel.

Recently, the US filmed Iran finding limpet mines on the sides of tankers and removing them, so their natural conclusion was, and I excrete you not, if Iran has the capability to remove limpet mines, then they also have the capability to place them. You don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Japan is like the shop in the dangerous part of town that pays to have Yakuza protection. Now the Za wants more money and the shop has to pay more, “show me your sincerity!”

I hear the EU, Russia and China all have business with the Saudi Arabia. hehe

I have never once approved of Iran funding extremist groups. I haven't even posted anything from which that could reasonably be inferred.

Oh, but you're against Trump's actions to limit Iran's ability to fund extremist groups. Can't have it both ways, Chip.

Japan won’t go to war.

Japan should continue to build friendly and mutually beneficial relationships with the nations of the Middle East

They’ve been doing that.

and get out from under the heel of Washington.

They’re not under our heel, but they will always be an ally of the US.
