Maybe Japan will have a new face but will that make Japan really change?

Why do they say “Japan” to elect when the Japanese voting population is just watching like birds on a fence?

Japan to formally elect new prime minister on October 1

'Formally elect' is some interesting wording to use, had to put 'elect' in there.

Why not just call it what it is, a coronation, appointing, investment something like that would be more fitting.

“ … while Takaichi, a vocal nationalist popular with the LDP's conservative wing, would be the country's first woman leader.

As a regular visitor to the Yasukuni Shrine to Japan's war dead, which includes convicted war criminals -- her nomination would likely rile victims of Japan's wartime aggression such as China and South and North Korea. “

Good luck, Sanae Takaichi.

Its good optics for the one party so called democracy

I read about a phrase purportedly used in the bureaucratic world. I don't think I've got it word-for-word, but it basically comes out as "don't be late, don't take any holidays, don't change anything".

I can imagine the new PM, whoever it may be, will have a large plaque on their wall with that phrase.

It's a party leadership election, not for PM. Thus, whoever elected will have to dissolve the parliament for a snap election to get a real mandate.

Girl Power, Takaichi and Harris. Let's go!

Why should Japan change? Japan is kicking but and taking names. And you are living here? What does that say?

ts good optics for the one party so called democracy

But you are living in one party so called democracy and how thing done in your country????

Why do they say “Japan” to elect when the Japanese voting population is just watching like birds on a fence?

Because it is a party election not a general election. Do you know the difference?

Get off it. They are both female. That’s where the similarity ends.

Takekaichi is much smarter than Harris.

Who cares what China of North Korea thinks?

Japan doesn’t select the position. Bunch of rich people in back rooms do it.

Japan to formally elect new prime minister on October 1

and then what?

It'll still be death level hot.

The Yen will still be useless.

We still gotta go to work.

There still will be no raises.

I mean, do we at least get some free cookies?

the only guarantee fast lane to become the next PM : go to US and get the Trump endorsement now. Everyone know that Trump will surely become the next POTUS, and we need someone who can work with Trump to bring peace and prosperity to Japan in the next four years.

The JP population still keeps voting for the same OLD PARTY.New face! but the same OLD party! Anyway, the next leader will be very popular for about 2 years, then at the 3.5 year mark will tank severely in the polls, and then it's time for the rinse an repeat the wash cycle. Resign,Let the party choose the new leaders, go to the polls,, and win again. It feels like listening to pink Floyds, Another Brick in the Wall, Where the old people vote for the same party, decade after decade and decade. All in all its just another vote in the wall.

LDP is a massive bureaucracy, nobody can change that, it won't matter who is who to lead that party !

ts good optics for the one party so called democracy

But you are living in one party so called democracy and how thing done in your country????

It doesn't say anything about my country. We are talking about Japan

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Why should Japan change?

Because the world is, and if Japan doesn't change its going to be left behind.

Japan is kicking but and taking names.

Huh?? Japan has recently slipped to 4th largest economy after Germany and is set to be overtaken by India to become the 5th in a few years. What are you talking about?

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Takekaichi is much smarter than Harris.

No she isn't. At all.
