$143 Million USD. I wonder how many aged care facilities you could build for that money supporting the aged who can no longer take care of themselves resulting in the murder suicides we see in the media daily. You know the ones...the elderly who have worked their whole lives paying tax to the Japanese government allowing them to give it all away to wars they have nothing to do with.
Meiyouwenti
Obviously the colonial masters ordered Kishida to clean up their mess and pay for the reconstruction of Ukraine because they have more important and lucrative matters to attend to in the Middle East. The money could be better spent to improve lives of Japanese people.
Justin F. Kayce
I just can't get my head wrapped around how In one breath a government toils over budget to help their own tax paying citizens effected by catastrophe, but in the next breath can afford to liberally toss that funding to another nations citizens that have never invested a dime.
It just doesn't make any sense.
TaiwanIsNotChina
A great offer but their independence must be secured first.
Fighto!
Good for Japan - a true friend of free Ukraine.
It hurts fascist Russia that Ukraine has so many friends willing to help, when all they have are Communist and totalitarian friends.
owzer
So friends don't rely on a loan at times? Or are friends expected to just give away their money in order to "be a friend"?
wallace
Reconstruction can't start until destruction ends. Mining will be a major problem for many decades.

@PTownsend - Are you familiar with Victoria Nuland's March 8th, 2022 appearance before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee? If not I suggest you visit C-SPAN.org and scrub forward to 41 minute mark. When asked if Ukraine has chemical or biological weapons, her careful response was, "Uh, Ukraine has, uh, biological research facilities which, in fact, we quite concerned that Russian troops, Russian forces, may be seeking to, uh, gain control of, so we are working with the Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of, uh, Russian forces should they approach."
Nuland essentially confirmed the existence of bio-labs. Now, whether they are for pharmaceutical research, biological weapons, or dual-use is unknown (to us plebs). But your insistence that it can be safely disregarded as Russian propaganda suggests to me that you have uncritically internalized US propaganda. However, in this instance, the only epistemological honest position is to admit that one doesn't know.

The pro-Putin brigade just love the phrase "proxy war," don't they? There's nothing proxy about it at all: Putin invaded a sovereign country that was not threatening Russia in any way, and this sovereign country asked other countries for help, which they continue to provide.
No-one is debating "this proxy war" issue because it's not a proxy war: it is a war of conquest by Putin, and Putin only.
Noble?
Indiscriminately murdering, raping and torturing people, abducting their children, and destroying their homes, businesses, and infrastructure?
I can only think you mistyped the word "evil" there.
isabelle
Well done, Japan. Please keep up the support as long as it is needed.
For those regurgitating the usual "deal with Japan's problems, not other countries' problems" line, the Japanese government can do, and is doing, both. As a taxpayer here, I absolutely don't mind some of my taxes going to help a country that has been mercilessly invaded.
Because helping people in need, wherever they are, is the right thing to do.
Authoritarians don't understand this: they simply want to oppress people and steal things.
proxy
Biotechnology? Are they planning on starting those labs up again?
TokyoLiving
It is unbelievable that a country that is still suffering the ravages of an earthquake and its compatriots are still suffering those consequences, wants to spend the money of the Japanese people to give it away to the Kyiv regime, just to please the geopolitical whims of the US..
Utterly pathetic..
Utterly stupid..
shogun36
So Japan can’t pay and help to rebuild their own towns and cities damaged by natural disaster OR put money into the education systems and instructors…..
BUT they can just frivolously throw money into the Osaka expo money pit and constantly throw out millions or billions out to the Ukraine…….ok
TaiwanIsNotChina
Support on paper and his cause is so noble he got indicted by the ICC.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Ukraine needs to not listen to surrender-pushers on the internet.
Well he's not in charge of anything so no, he won't be negotiating your beloved surrender.
Mark
All in support of any help to any war torn nation for as long as the funds are well managed and doesn't fall into the wrong hand or flat out Stolen.
Ukraine, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, and many more are all in need of help and I hope that Japan will treat these nations in fair manners, The UN will be a good place to start .

脫亞論 Leave Asia policy II. Kish & Crew want so much to be counted among the Americans and Europeans.

And what do you think of insurgencies and secret police murders from countries that have been subjugated? Sometimes people prefer to fight rather than be enslaved.
kohakuebisu
I take it you fully support this statement for the Palestinians.
In the case of Ukraine, a peace deal was negotiated by Zelensky's side in April 2022. The Ukrainian government was then duped into rejecting the peace and fighting the Russians on the promise of a war-winning amount weapons from Nato countries. They were lied to by Biden, then PM Johnson and the EU. Such weapons and overwhelming military support has never and will never arrive. The "cost" of the peace, as reported by Zelensky's people, was not joining NATO or the EU. That is not "enslavement". There is no way I want my children to fight a war for Japan to join a defence organization or a trade treaty, both of which are highly flawed organizations. That's up there with dying for a monarch.
Anyone saying the war should continue needs to show a plan of how Ukraine can win. Because its been two years and they are in a much weaker position now than in 2022. This will weaken further if Trump wins the election and stops funding the war.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Putin can say openly he is for an unconditional ceasefire any time. He will still be a war criminal but it would at least set the stage for a ceasefire.
PTownsend
One more to add to the firehose of falsehoods streaming from Moscow, a tactic long used by totalitarian regimes and their useful idiots.
kohakuebisu
I don't have a problem with international aid, only with the willingness to prolong a war that will create more need for international aid. People who have a problem with Japanese money being spent on this should be more enthusiastic about the diplomatic efforts to end the war. Diplomacy has a far better record of ending wars and maintaining future peace than victory on the battlefield. Prolonged fighting = prolonged destruction.
The elephant in the room for international aid is who will pay to rebuild Gaza. That area housed two million people. Its now like a moonscape. Personally, I think Israel should pay, the people who blew up all those apartment buildings, schools, hospitals, and university. There was no need to bomb them.
ClippetyClop
Absolute piffle. What was the peace deal?
I've asked this of several posters, none has ever revealed the details.
You won't be able to either because it's a nonsense fantasy peddled by feeble minded Putin fans.
You don't know what 'Civil War' means. I'll give you hint, when a foreign army invades several times, it isn't one.
TaiwanIsNotChina
More like the parents are complete ass for not giving a darn if Ukraine is annihilated.
TaiwanIsNotChina
A solid argument for the international community to help them kick the Russian out.
PTownsend
The Russian invasion and war have kept Ukrainians from enjoying the freedom they deserve, perhaps after the Kremlin calls Russian troops back across the border to actual sovereign Russian territory, Ukraine can become free, free at last of Moscow control.
Let the rebuilding of Ukraine begin. But much of the money to rebuild the country needs to come from Putin's private coffers, and if he's not alive, as some are claiming in Russian disinformation circles, as part of their firehose of falsehoods, then it should come from those he's passed his wealth onto.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Quite possibly. Perhaps your heroes shouldn't have wrecked the country, huh?
Blacklabel
106 Million dollars? That’s nothing! But should be “zero”
TaiwanIsNotChina
Doesn't really matter what I think. You need to tell us you support Ukrainian resistance or Hamas arrest to be consistent.
A nonsense claim but at least now we know where you are getting your "facts" from. Russian withdrawal was never on the table, so the only thing that could have been negotiated was a ceasefire, and then you have to ask yourself why this unconditional or minimal conditional ceasefire isn't on the table now? Only the Russian would claim escalating booty is needed. Also no country should get to decide who joins the EU but the EU.
Trade treaties are flawed and required wars to join? Ooooookkk. In case you didn't notice, it was unstable Vlad that went off the rails, made up excuses, and sent hundreds of tanks towards Kyiv.
Why? Preserving their independence and exacting a heavy price from the fascist are both worthy goals.
They are only weaker because of the actions of Trump already.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Not a proxy war when it has resulted in the deaths of 100s of thousands of Russians.
Good for them. Still doesn't make Ukraine a proxy.
Everyone understands you need to stop pushing for surrender when you have done no surrendering yourself.
HopeSpringsEternal
Now it's TIME to turn the page, get on with rebuilding and recovery, Ukraine's suffered enough and there's nothing in the Donbas but more death and destruction, that puts world in greater peril EVERY day.
PTownsend
Good on Japan, curious to see whether the Kremlin will be willing to pay for the damage they created. If Putin is still alive I wonder whether he'd shell out money to support the rebuilding of Ukraine out of the billions he's skimmed from the Russian state, or maybe the people Putin leaves his wealth to will do so?
Danielsan
Japan should make the offer contingent on cessation of all hostilities by both sides of the conflict, or else money spent on reconstruction could end up being wasted by further destruction.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Your hoped for surrender will not happen and it's not a proxy war.
Spitfire
MHI and all the other big recipients of Japanese 'ODA' must be biting at the bit.
Amakudari knows no bounds.
HopeSpringsEternal
if anyone still debating this "proxy" war issue, it's clear to all that Ukraine heavily relies on its NATO supporters for ongoing massive financial and military assistance.
Furthermore, Ukraine receives great deal of intel, logistical and supply chain support on a constant basis from their proxy supporters.
Everyone understands Ukraine cannot with its broken economy, fund this war effort or produce the necessary hardware to fight. They're utterly dependent upon their NATO proxy supporters and others like Japan.
It's why Ukraine's so concerned about their next tranche of support from US now held up in Congress. Most don't know this support also pays for Ukrainian Govt. pensions and salaries to those in Ukraine's Govt. It's unsustainable as Ukraine's economy crumbles, rebuilding becomes more expensive, and fewer people in country every day.
HopeSpringsEternal
Evidence and interviews related to cause of Ukraine's conflict with Russia, escalation of Ukraine's 10year civil war, and all this destruction, that all centers in the Donbas was not needed? Backstory very important.
People need to understand the futility of present situation in Ukraine, that no military objectives exist, and WHY rebuilding and recovery is ONLY logical next step.
HopeSpringsEternal
Ukraine needs to stop letting its proxy partners, headed by the globalists, continue their get Putin fantasy at all costs. It's both destroying Ukraine and its future and doing massive damage to the entire world.
Hoping General Z and others will aggressively pursue peace talks in order to rebuild Ukraine with those who wish to be Ukrainian, rather current leaderships the Donbas and Crimea Ukraine failed state agenda.
HopeSpringsEternal
It'll take LOTS more dough to just de-mine Ukraine. Guess they better off until a durable peace treaty can be agreed upon.
Seems day of PEACE is approaching as military support for Ukraine from its proxy war supporters clearly on wane, Ukraine troop mobilization struggles badly, and economy continues to collapse with many still fleeing to other countries, including of course Russia.
astasher
I'm wondering if Ukraine supported Japan or any of the many other countries that are supporting them when they were confronted with Russian aggression. I'm talking about before Russia invaded them.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Notice how none of that quote specified whether it is weapons being destroyed or created.
Seesaw7
What about homeless in Shinjuku?
nik
why this money? Does anyone even know what’s going on in Ukraine right now? I will tell you. In Avdeevka every day there are 500 corpses of Ukrainian soldiers. There's a complete finish there. You can’t even imagine what losses the Ukrainian troops are suffering. Why this money? send hell there.
HopeSpringsEternal
Ukraine's one on the clock, running out of military support from abroad, little troop mobilization, as their economy is in ruins and people continue to flee abroad.
Putin's support FAR higher than Zelensky and his cause his noble, assisting those seeking independence for Cause from Ukraine's civil war. Russia has about 10M more new citizens from Ukraine SINCE 2014.
For above reasons, the Donbas never going to Ukraine, inevitable Ukraine has to rebuild and recover very soon! As Support for War & Zelensky falling rapidly inside Ukraine.
HopeSpringsEternal
Survival is not surrender, Ukraine needs to get over the Donbas and Crimea and rebuild its future.
Fortunately, foreign war support for Ukraine is drying up, Ukraine mobilization failing and Ukraine public support for war also dropping.
Everyone realizes reality, Ukraine's unable to sustain this war, Trump's coming, as political support for war abroad falling fast. Mr. Scholz of Germany at 20% approval? He'll not be around long, and his 'peers' just like him = DONE.

Japan Inc and the government hand in hand for profits and fat brown envelopes…

Obviously Russia will be paying for the rebuilding of the Dombas area in the east as it will be Russian territory.
Those old Soviet era high rise blocks needed demolition and rebuilding. Just look at Grozny in Chechnya to see how well this will be done. From rubble to a beautiful city in 3 years.

Syrsky’s mom and dad live in Russia; they cry because their son is on the other side of the barricades. Syrsky abandoned his parents publicly. This is complete ass. My adopted son lives in Australia and said that this is complete rock bottom

Fiat money - drawn on interest with 33 trillion used as collateral. Very economic with facts and figures.
Again, they are implying it was a gas/petrol station with families tanking up their cars for a weekend trip.
And pretending it wasn't a POL tank farm in a clear industrial zone here:

Showing Japan still leading everywhere in the world must be more important than fixing Japan problem domestically.
