From year 2013 to 2016 the China was building the strength and encroaching the sea and rocks in the Island.

From Year 2016 to 2020 China did not show any strength because there was a man ( a world leader) to question and stop. China was afraid of him. so they kept low profile and withdraw.

Now from year 2021 look what is happening..

We need a true world leader to curb China.

5.34T as against 20.33T yen, but Japan doesn’t have to match the CCP’S military expenditure alone, they can and do work in conjunction with allies. The likeliest action directly against Japan from China would be an attempt to seize some of the outlying islands or Okinawa to break the first island chain that constrains their naval expansion. So the means of destroying any such attacking force before it lands is a critical need. Just remember the best defence is a good offence.

Sure, China is going to invade Okinawa. Just like they have done so many times before.

Kishi on the other hand has true warlike credentials in his war-mongering family and war-criminal grandfather.

The Ryukyu Kingdom was a tributary state of China. The Qing appointed the equivalent of a viceroy who lived on Okinawa and controlled the Ryukyu royalty. The Ryukyu paid taxes or "tribute" to China annually on pain of military conquest if they refused. China built ships and gave them to the Ryukyu Kingdom to use in trade, however the kingdom could only trade with those other vassal states approved by China with China skimming a portion of the proceeds off the top. Royal succession was controlled by the Chinese viceroy. The Ryukyu Kingdom was not an independent nation in any sense of the word. China seeks to restore that sort of relationship with modern Okinawa.

I guess that explains the explosion of man made island military base building in the South China Sea, the outright theft of Philippine islands, incursions into Japanese waters and airspace by the Chinese military and Coast Guard especially around the Senkaku Islands, or the new aircraft carriers and big deck amphibious assault ships commissioned or in the yards under construction, all occurring over the last ten years. China laying low. Really?

It might benefit Japan to have the equipment and training necessary to use some of the most expensive US weapons with the intent of relying on the US to provide the weapons in an emergency. Example, Japanese DDGs would be equipped to launch Tomahawk cruise missiles but Japan would not buy these. JASDF aircraft would be equipped to launch LRASM or JASSM-XR but would not buy them. Likewise with some other expensive weapons. Instead, in the case of a major war, the US would issue these weapons to Japanese forces to use from US inventories much as several NATO nations train to use nuclear weapons but do not themselves possess them. Their forces will use US nuclear weapons if it ever came to that. The money freed would allow Japan to build more platforms, ships, aircraft and ground vehicles, ready to launch these weapons, which might be a more valuable use of scarce tax dollars during peace time.

If we assume China's violent aggression as real, then I suspect following things:

China won't invade Okinawa but will take some Ryukyu islands. They will encourage Rykuyans to seek independence and will return those islands to the newly formed Ryukyu nation. They will ask the Ryukyuans to lease some islands close to the Pacific Ocean for naval bases.

Taiwan will definitely be seized. China will shut down trade going through Taiwan straight and Luzon straight. This act will cripple the Japanese economy and the American West Coast economy. South Korea will side with China and enjoy the stable flow of goods.

China must complete the resolution with Vietnam on the territorial disputes in the SCS, while they and Vietnam must complete the binding Code of Conducts in the SCS that can put the American naval superpower at disadvantage. I can't see how China will solve any of these things soon but I can get an idea on the past resolution between China and Vietnam over the Gulf of Tonkin - China ceded Fushui island to Vietnam.

Your history lesson leaves out the bit that it was Japan who invaded Ryukyu in 1609, kidnapped the king and took him to Edo, and occupied Ryukyu ever since.

China has never invaded Ryukyu.

Kishi on the other hand has true warlike credentials in his war-mongering family and war-criminal grandfather.

KIshi's grandfather was detained, questioned and released by GHQ. He was never charged, tried or convicted of being a "War Criminal".

As for "Warlike" there is only one country that fits that description today:

"Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on troops to "put all (their) minds and energy on preparing for war" in a visit to a military base in the southern province of Guangdong on Tuesday, according to state news agency Xinhua."

Five words we would NEVER expect to see together: “ Japan, plan’ **and ‘ahead of schedule’**. ”

@OssanAmerica

Sounds like Kishi's grandfather was a thoroughly likeable chap.

From wiki:

Known for his brutal rule of the Japanese puppet state Manchukuo in Northeast China in the 1930s, Kishi was nicknamed the "Monster of Manchuria" (満州の妖怪; Manshū no yōkai).

After World War II, Kishi was imprisoned for three years as a suspected Class A war criminal. However, the U.S. government did not charge, try, or convict him, and eventually released him as they considered Kishi to be the best man to lead a post-war Japan in a pro-American direction.

Irelevant. To call him a "War Criminal" when he was never even charged as one, is wrong.

Good for Japan.

Much more needs to be invested in containing the rapid Communist advance in the region. Japan needs more aircraft carriers, destroyers, fighter jets and long-range bombers. Furthermore, the dreadful, outdated US-written constitution needs to be binned to allow Japan to engage in wars on foreign soil. Just like all her neighbors are permitted to.

To not prepare for upcoming conflict would be disastrous for the future of Japan.

Japan can’t afford it. Too much debt

You ought to get updated!

Japan can't afford NOT to massively increase the military. Unless you wish Communism upon Okinawa and likely more parts of Japan in the future.

I think they planned this starting 12 years ago, because implementing is not a word the Japanese are fond of.

Because that is not completely accurate. The Chinese sent people to the Ryukyus to work in government and trade there. Ryukyu officials were sent to study in China for a traditional Chinese education. A limited number of Ryukyuans were allowed to study at the Imperial Academy. Many Ryukyuan officials were of Chinese ancestry. Ryukyuan trade was limited to Ming Ports or ports of other tributary nations and the Ryukyuans had to have Ming permission to trade at a given port. The Ryukyu maintained a tributary relationship with the Qing after the 1609 invasion. The Ryukyu royalty played both Japan and China to their benefit and for many years the Ryukyuans kept their relationship with Japan secret. After the invasiontThe Japanese for their part did not want to give China a reason to attack them and thus allowed the Ryukyus to continue to pay tribute to China. Chinese officials on the occasion of a visit by American President Ulysses S. Grant that China had a special relationship with the Ryukyu Kingdom, that the Ryukyu had paid tribute to China for hundreds of years and the Chinese reserved certain trade rights for them in an amicable and beneficial relationship. The Ryukyus were not formally annexed into Japan until 1879. This history is what the Chinese use to justify their claim that the Ryukyus are occupied by Japan and are traditionally part of China's sphere of influence.

An inadequate defense combined with the widespread perception that Japan would not fight to defend itself is like rolling the red carpet out for an invader. The top leadership of the CCP are smiling broadly and rubbing their hands in anticipation. I fail to see how funding an adequate defense when your nation currently spends less than 1% of it's prodigious GDP (don't make excuses, Japan has the 3rd largest GDP in the world and can afford more than it spends now) is somehow tantamount to communism. But I will say that if Japan continues to short change defense they may find out the hard way what communism is really all about.

Americans know they are running a monopoly and hence can overcharge for a F-35... Japan needs to develop their own jet and tell the Yankees to screw off!
