Wrong move Japan... Just last week, PM Abe said he would visit if Clinton won....Now that President-Elect Trump won, PM Abe sends a Minon?

I also remember Abe's words as @tumilber does.. Of course most Japanese have already forgotten.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Lol It is "regrettable" that the outcome of US election isn't what Japan wanted.

Hopefully Abe will understand that words also have consequences.

Prime Minister Abe will be eating a large serving of Crow for dinner tonight along with some Humble Pie for dessert. But don`t worry Abe you can still visit Hillary in Feb. the only thing is she wont be president and she wont be able to do any favors for you.

Japan back peddeling. Same deal with the Australian sub contract Japan lost, they had no backup plan and underestimated the competition.

I agree! Abe is trying to make an ass of himself right off the bat. If I were Trump I would make them sit on the sidelines for a few days cooling their heels, and maybe see the Ambassador from South Korea and China first.

Abe doesnt realize the game has changed for him and Japan, and he would be better off sending a message of congratulations and make a request for a meeting after the inauguration.. I always figured Abe had a huge ego, but I dont think it even come close to comparing to Trump. Trump for all his faults, and listing them would take a wall of posts a mile lone, is not a dumb man and does not take slights very well.

It is the correct protocol for a Vassal state.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Don't have JT posters post laughing 50 comments by yourself going. Abe. but don't forget to make reservation to Trump Tower for your envoy's accomodations

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Japan will be the last country Trump will be concerned about. The new world order is "each country for itself". With interest rate at rock bottom and yen tumbling what will Japan do?? If Japan doesn't make drastic changes as immigration reform and have more people paying into the system, I'm afraid its economy is at checkmate.

Probably Gingrich will handle visitors from Japan.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Maybe to discuss Japan developing their nukes?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I wouldn't do it. Call it stupid pride, but, no.

If you ever needed a gentle nudge to diversify your business dealings, well now you got a great big shove. Dust off those relationships in Europe and so on because this man will buy your house and foreclose on you before the handshake is over.

Get in line, Abe san.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I agree with Tumilber.

Abe himself must go and not his acolyte.

Must be embarrassing for Shinzo though.

Aukward situation for Mr Abe.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

You can almost respect some Japanese politicians after the farce that was the US election and the man who became president.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

All this "peaceful transition" business kind of reminds me of that very famous last scene from The Godfather. Kneel before me and kiss my hand (or else.)

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Trump is more keen on econo business growth than expanding war.

You must be referring to this article.

https://www.japantoday.com/category/politics/view/abe-may-visit-u-s-in-feb-if-clinton-wins-presidential-race

WASHINGTON — Prime Minister Shinzo Abe may visit the United States for a summit meeting in late February if Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton wins next week’s presidential race, Japan-U.S diplomatic and party sources said Thursday.

It is a news from Washington. "Japan-US diplomatic sources" mean the State Department of US and "party sources" mean Democratic Party of US.

It is a wishful thinking by Americans in Washington.

Aukward situation for Mr Abe.

Not as awkward as letting a clown host a foreign mission.

Let the @ss kissing begin!

Trump won a d Hillary conceded.

New unknown boss arrived...!!

Can you imagin how stressful moment PrimeMinister Abe has to go through? Now he has to deal with an alien like unpredictable person who does not show much a respect or doesn'T have a much knowlge about past US-Japan alliance. Trump is demanding Japan to pay more for US military.

I heard that Abe sent a congratulation message to Trump. I can imagin Abe would probably smile and look himself sooo happy when he meets Trump, but you know it is all in act, not real.

On the other hand, he and his team are now discussing the worst case scenerio about budget for US military and TPP.

Good luck with that. Probably will not get past the gatekeeper. A bit like trying to do business here. Meeting, presentation to some front people, cup of tea and they bin your stuff after you leave. Trump knows all to well about this and will have his revenge.

Now Trump is the ....ruler of the Universe!

Stand back Abe lest your retinas are burned away!!!

If I were advising Prime Minister Abe-san, Katsuyuki-san, and Chief Cabinet Secretary Sugi-san I would hint that Japan should consider very carefully the importance of the first congratulatory response, and the level of their dignitaries sent to visit Mr. Trump. With so many key issues facing USA-Japan relations currently, it is most important to get started off in right direction (e.g. TPP; potential Military Base Realignment; Fukushima Environmental Remediation; cross-border Business Partnering; etc.). Such visit to Washington, DC by Japan Government perhaps might include a potential private meeting with the individual who Mr. Trump plans to Appoint as USA Ambassador to Japan. I could support Japan Government such congratulatory visit to DC...if Katsuyuki-san invited me to do so. The Japan Embassy-Washington, DC knows how to find me, through my Japanese wife. Michael J. Erickson (email: me98 at yahoo.com).

Trump is asking for more money from Japan and renegotiation of the treaty. Sending minions are perfect.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It seems that most countries except Russia, China,, did not expect Donald Trump would be next president of USA. It is matter of time that many countries would send envoys sooner or later because no country has good connection/relationship with Donald Trump.

Trump is asking for more money from Japan

Americans never ask Japan, they threaten.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

I'll feel your pain Japan.

Trump is no friend of Japan and in fact dislikes them.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Now it's time for Japan and Korea to develop their own Nuclear Weapon for regional safety and stability.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

tiger tanaka but I do not see any good relationship with America. Japan just acts as a slave to America and gives free lands and monies to America for defending Japan (against false enemies that US has imagined for Japan!) as it has no permission for military affairs and rights from US. even Japan has no permission to punish American soldiers who commits crimes, so soldiers enjoy Japan as free land and free women... Japan only obey America so Japan is one of the US states not a country...

0 ( +1 / -1 )

what a big shame...after 70 years of ww2, still Japan is in under yoke of America and has to pay more and more to US to satisfy its boss...now has to smile to US new president as its new boss to pretend happy with his victory! new punishments r in the way and still Japan wants to be US special slave...very sorry for the people of Japan specially for Okinawa...

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Probably they understand each other better. Trump knows economics and will understand Abenomics. TPP, Abe will be disappointed. Trump is against. UN Trump hated.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

We Japanese hope the nichibei alliance will continue to stay strong even with Trump.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

We Japanese have a strong jieitai or SDF as you may call it which we are very proud of. Until now we have relied on America but with Abe's leadership we Japanese believe that we can now defend ourselves. Of course we Japanese still wish to continue our good relationship with America.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

willsurvive We Japanese are always thankful towards America since despite our defeat at World War 2, instead of punishment America promoted our economy in the east to help us achieve "economic miracle".

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

The only good thing of Trump winning is that Abe will lose face for gambling on Hillary.
