Is just a waste of money. All that money wasted for a permanent seat. Basically is like throwing money to the ocean. Third place and still no seat? Peace keeping. Is a unrewarding and thankless job. This money instead could have done wonders in our own country. There is still a lot of rebuilding needed to be done from natural disasters.

That literally means China will be buying themselves more opinions and clout, and Japan will increasingly have a larger rival at the World Table. Being 3rd is no small thing, but this relic of post WWII (The UN) needs a real updating.

It's fitting that our global assembly is as openly corrupt as most individual democracies. Representation being directly proportional to how much money you or your industry has. Why China or Japan or the US should have any more say over world affairs than Burundi or Peru is beyond me.

Mostly, UN is a waste of money for Japan anyway. Japan should have been made a permanent member of the Security Council many years ago. Communist China is just trying to buy votes in this crooked and undemocratic organization.

The more Japan contributes to war, the less it contributes to peace. Data never lies.

I hope China is not using U.N. as a place to demonstrate their propaganda and to bribe the third world countries. I cannot figure out what is the goal of China in the world. The image is still an oriental despotic country.

why would china waste money on an organisation controlled and headquartered in America.

To get permanently seated at Sec Council, it's not money wasted but nukes that is necessary. You have to be "Haves" to secure the nations.

China has rally third world countries to overcome US lead sanctions of China and kick out Taiwan's KMT regieme during 1970s, China really don't need to do much to mobilize the third world countries! Japan has been a big spender in the United nation but the political payback is very fruitless, maybe she has a say in UNSECO to protect her  historical landmark sites which is very laughable as always!

becasue it has veto power, can only get that if your a member of the UN

America has a stable government and secure enviroment, UN might have its HQ in the US but it is immune to US laws within its buildings, US police , FBI CIA etc can only legally enter at their invitation. just like foreign government embassies.

Americans think the U.N. is a pathetic, kabuki theater like circus and the fact that China is now bribing/paying off/influencing it further confirms this opinion. So, the second biggest 'benefactor' of the U.N. is a military dictatorship? Gee, that sounds like a really great organization whose primary goal is 'world peace'. No wonder Trump wants to lower America's contribution.

Goodlucktoyou - why would china waste money on an organisation controlled and headquartered in America.

The U.N. operates as an autonomous world body which is located inside the U.S.. Something it would definitely not be able to do if it was located inside China, or most of the world's nations.

The UN would've been a hell of a lot more effect and would've had much more teeth had the Soviet Union/Russia not been put on it after WWII.

They've blocked and split the UN for decades. China will do the same thing if they become a permanent member. Much of what the UN stands for and tries to accomplish is often countered by these two states.

Japan could just leave the UN like it did with its precursor, the League of Nations, right?

So long as Japan continues to pay a large amount of the budget of the UN, it is not a bad thing that China will pay more than Japan. In fact, it would be a good thing if 100 countries paid more than Japan, as long as Japan continued to pay the same amount.

On the subject of making Japan a permanent member of the Security Council, seems to me that that makes a lot of sense. As Russia continues to dwindle in both economic and military power, it might be a good idea to replace Russia with Japan on the Security Council. Of the five permanent members, only Russia has a GDP that is not even in the top ten.

Given the current reality of global power, it would make sense to have China, USA, UK, France, Germany, India, Brazil, and Japan as permanent members of the Security Council. Even South Korea is more powerful in the today's reality than Russia. It makes sense to have the Russians in the Security Council given the number of nuclear weapons they hold, but only because of that.

Really antiquated that India and Japan arent part of the 5. Germany still out in the cold 70 years after the war. What countries want to keep these 3 countries out of it? Something tells me its not the US....

Absolutely true.

China will do the same thing if they become a permanent member. Much of what the UN stands for and tries to accomplish is often countered by these two states.

China (PRC) is already a Permanent member of the Security Council. They took over the seat held by ROC (Taiwan). This despite the fact that China sent troops to help North Korea kill UN Troops in 1950. China has far more economic clout that Russia and is greater threat to what the UN exists to accomplish.

So does that mean there's going to be an increase in World Heritage Sites coming from China?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It’s to be expected as the worlds 3rd economy. Japan only contributing half the GDP percentage of other NATO countries to defense and peacekeeping is shameful, however.
