God bless America!!

I hope 'God bless the Japanese people eating meat from animals that have been treated with hormones'
Not really a win for the health of the people...

Time will tell if this was a good deal for either country. All I know is the prices remain higher than before any agreements as my both cash card and bank has less money to buy and then so after the 10% tax.

Went shopping with my wife and took a look at the "cheese" section: all domestic processed cr@p or imported stuff cut into tiny blocks at a 1,000% markup. I knew it would be like that, and it was stupid of me to have a look: I always get depressed.
I come from a California town with a large Japanese diaspora. There are many Asian supermarkets which sell Japanese rice at the same price or less than in Japan. Imagine if America treated Japanese rice as Japan does cheese.

It should be...Japan just doesn't have the scale or efficiency in agri products, so the deal will benefit Japanese consumers.
and
USA consumers would pay less for Japanese cars.

This is basically the same TPP deal that many other countries signed 2 years ago. So while Trump made like he was doing the USA a big favor by waiting and pushing for a better deal.... he got nothing extra. All he did was give other countries an extra 2 years of access to Japan at lower tariffs.... thus setting the USA back two full years. Trump needs to re-write "The art of the deal" title to something like "The are of Deception".

Japan will immediately cut its 38.5 percent tariff on U.S. beef to 26.6 percent
What was up with the 38.5% tariff anyway?

No, it's a lot better for the U.S. Why do you think the Japanese opposition lawmakers are complaining about it?

Trade deal? More like brown nosing deal to avoid automobile tariffs. Funny nothing is mentioned as to how the coddled voters this deal is screwing over are going to be compensated with tax payers hard earned cash. Funny that.

how is it a lot better when the US is only getting the same tariffs as other TPP members, yes auto tariffs are still there but its only 2.5% hardly earth shattering. If Trump does raise auto tariffs to 25% do you really think Japan would keep its agreed tariffs in place or raise beef other agriculture tariffs on national security grounds also. works both ways not a one way street as Trump thinks it is, meanwhile that trade deficit is approaching $23trillion rising at a faster pace than when Obama was POTUS

when does the opposition in any democratic country not complain about something

The deal will eliminate or lower tariffs on $7.2 billion in U.S exports including beef and put American farmers on level ground with competitors from Australia and Canada, which along with Japan are part of the revised Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.
Japan will immediately cut its 38.5 percent tariff on U.S. beef to 26.6 percent and make gradual reductions each year until it reaches 9 percent in 2033.
and
While dodging Trump's threat to impose a 25 percent tariff on automobiles and their parts based on national security concerns, Japan failed to secure the elimination of the existing 2.5 percent duty, something the United States had granted under the original TPP before abruptly pulling out in 2017 before its ratification.
The deal simply says auto tariffs are "subject to further negotiations."
So the Japanese gained nothing in this area while the U.S. gets to export more pork, cheese and wine to Japan and getting tariffs on U.S. goods eliminated or cut. Quite one-sided indeed. For its part, the United States will also welcome more "wagyu" beef into the country by removing Japan's low-tariff quota of 200 tons a year and including it in a group of other countries sharing a quota of 65,000 tons.
Only 9 restaurants in the U.S. serve Kobe beef so I doubt there is room to import a whole lot more. This despite (one site says 8 though)Today, enough reaches the U.S. to satisfy the average beef consumption of just 77 Americans. It's so scarce that Kobe's marketing board licenses individual restaurants, and real Kobe beef is available at just eight restaurants in the entire country (see the list), while none, ever, is sold at retail.
It is healthier for you than the crap we have in the U.S. (I say that as a guy who eats his fair share of beef but who is trying to eat healthier foods)
It has up to 300% more monounsaturated fat than normal beef due to the high marbling of the meat, as well as incredibly high omega 3 and 6 content. Wagyu beef has the lowest cholesterol levels of all meats, even lower than fish or chicken, and it contains oleic acid which is considered good for your heart. Jan 22, 2018

2033...9% wow...hope I am still alive.
Howcome American beef at Costco is so crazy on the pricing?

Japan is a slave to the US empire.
USA: Japan, give your little girls to our soldiers!
Japan: Yes master!
USA: Tell your people to stop complaining, we dont want to look bad for the evil things we do.
Japan: Yes master!

Sounds good. Advanced countries enjoying the perks of good life.

absolutely total BS not backed up with real research.
there is no way in hell that Wagyu beef is healthier for you than fish or poultry
JustMyThoughts
Everything sold in Japan is inflated by Tariffs and profiting by Japanese companies that have no competition as a result. Sad...
