Taiwan can help itself by not referring to themselves as the Republic of China, their official name, and forcing countries to choose between it and the PRC.

Absolutely correct. Only the 80-90 year olds think of themselves as "Republic of China". All the younger people grew up as Taiwanese and are rightly proud of it. Besides, Taiwan is better off disconnecting themselves from the word "China" anyway since the CCP seems to have tarnished the name beyond repair in so many ways.

Therefore, no other race can manupulate us.

There are two races that are doing the vast amount of manipulation worldwide; I'll let you guess who those are.

Taiwan needs to be recognized as an independent country, period. I wonder just who among the current world leaders has the backbone to give the idea more than lip service?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

A good decision there.

Taiwan was the first region in the world. Outside mainland China to detect the coronavirus. As early as November 2019.

He was the first to start researching and looking for abnormal strains to discover how to detect the virus. And what's more. He was the one who gave the world the image of the very virus we all know internationally. Being also the first to know how it is transmitted. Incubation periods. They even made the first detection tests. Which are the ones used as a world reference.

It was the first territory to close its external borders. The first to conduct massive tests. And as a consequence it is one of the territories with the least impact in the world. Being a very densely populated territory. But by living a completely normal life.

The world owes a lot to Taiwan.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

I support Taiwan.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

The vast majority of Taiwanese people are very happy to be separate from China. Even Taiwan's leader Tsai Ing-Wen has said that, '.....There is no need to say we are an independent country, because we already are an independent country.' Akie is living in CCP dreamland.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

what happens to the other 1%?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Agree 100%. Well done Japan!

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Strangerland said "We should actually just start replacing China with Taiwan at the UN and the WHO and any other world organizations. "

It had done before, against majority Chinese populations. Now the world has changed, and China is rightly recognized as the only govt to represent Chinese people on the planet of earth.

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

Mathematically speaking, Japanese govt doesn't represent Japanese population, the world should know that.

Does the Chinese government mathematically represent the Chinese people?

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Heh, the world doing what's right and recognizing Taiwan, who are clearly an independent nation, as an independent nation, really has our resident CPP mouthpiece freaking out!

7 ( +9 / -2 )

We should actually just start replacing China with Taiwan at the UN and the WHO and any other world organizations.

Free Taiwan!

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Good on Japan. It's time for the world to stop going along with this Chinese farce that we shouldn't recognize the independent nation of Taiwan as an independent nation.

For too long, we've been enabling them, by letting them push their farce on the rest of us, doing things like blocking Taiwan from being recognized as a sovereign and independent nation at the WHO and in the UN.

Sorry China, the rest of the world is done with that lie. May as well give it up.

FREE TAIWAN!

The world wants China to be a successful country, but sees what it is doing to Hong Kong. Why would Taiwan want to invite China to do to it what it has done to Hong Kong?

In the meantime, China's strong arm tactics, such as what it is doing to snub Taiwan at the WHO, reinforce the view that Xi is a bully who cannot be trusted.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Go Taiwan, we stand with you!

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Do you know about the travel ban, although there are very few planes over my area...

Crossing places these days may cancal your visa.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

What is the legal basis for Japan to urge Taiwan ? Should be Tokyo also allowed to participate UN ? What did Taiwan contribute to the initial war against the virus ? Why would Taiwan limit the masks to the mainland ? Was it helpful or not ?

-19 ( +0 / -19 )

Taiwan should be a FULL member!

14 ( +14 / -0 )

Taiwan should set up their own WHO which other countries can join. That would just leave the chinese WHO to stew in their own juice.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

It sadly isn't possible due to how the WHO is formed, but I wish they'd kick china out. Welcome Taiwan, a better nation.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

It good

The Asian voice cannot be a single country’s point of view on global matters.

Just an idea, but I am not alone.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Taiwan’s expertise in addressing this pandemic is needed by the world!!!

15 ( +15 / -0 )

Taiwan should attend, it is a modern independent democracy and should not be discriminated against.

The professionalism they showed in counter this virus is an additional reason!!

14 ( +14 / -0 )

China is a dictatorial country that wants Taiwan to be unable to participate in their experience. Now is not the time for political impasses, but to gain experience with those who know how to deal with this tragedy. WHO is being very negligent.

17 ( +17 / -0 )

As observer?

How about as a full member?

12 ( +12 / -0 )

Why not ???.We are all Chinese. We should use LI ( clear explianation ) to each other to help the world. To join togather is good for the world. Clear and create true understandings. Therefore, no other race can manupulate us.

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

It's an indication that the Japanese officials are starting to use the term Taiwan instead of the Republic of China (ROC) though it's still referred as a "region." A highly remarkable move.

Regardless of any political concerns across the Strait, Taiwan deserves the membership status at WHO owning to its successful response.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

Taiwan full membership. China sanctioned.

18 ( +20 / -2 )

"World" Health Organization. Just no one who defies China.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Taiwan didn't listen to what Beijing was saying, but did pay attention to the first reports of an unusual pneumonia in Wuhan, which they thought could be transmitted between people. Taiwan began screening travelers from China, testing, contact tracing and building up their PPE. As a result, their cases and deaths were extremely low and their citizens enjoy freedoms of movement, socialization and commerce we are afraid to take.

But then, Taiwan's president picked a top epidemiologist, the deputy chair of their top scientific association to be her VP.

China is such an insecure state that it bullies Taiwan, a country that has made the transition from military dictatorship to democracy, relentlessly and encourages its allies to do the same. It's quite sad how threatened China, a country of 1.3 billion people, feels by Taiwan - a state of 24 million. No wonder the Taiwanese want nothing to do with the dictatorship of China.

29 ( +29 / -0 )

Excellent move by Japan. Taiwan absolutely MUST be in the new form of the WHO. This is not negotiable. The leadership and advice Taiwan can give to the world will be invaluable. They are the world leader in managing this pandemic.

If any nation doesnt agree - they're OUT.

25 ( +26 / -1 )

Japan urges. Thats so funny. Japan and urges should not be in the same sentence. I urge Japan to distribute ¥100000 as they promised. Urges. Hahahahahaha.

-15 ( +11 / -26 )

good work Japan.

COVID knows no national or political boundaries, and so discussions to tackle it should also be free of such constraints.

25 ( +25 / -0 )

Membership in WHO should be of interested parties, perhaps called "participants," rather than nation-states. That would include Taiwan, Palestine as well as international health-oriented NGOs such as the Red Cross, Red Crescent and the Knights of Malta.

21 ( +22 / -1 )

Well done Japan. We have backbone!

24 ( +27 / -3 )

In the meantime, Kato said Japan has decided to contribute around $270 million in total to international bodies

Now China pledged $2 billion to WHOs $6 billion budget.

America withdrew its funding, Japan's funding is atmost $270 million.

Where do you think WHOs bias be?

Put some weight on your suggestions to be taken seriously.

Money where your mouth is.

-24 ( +4 / -28 )

Those who oppose Taiwan with the CCP have been bought or pressured into it.

17 ( +20 / -3 )

As would the whole world welcome Taiwan!

Only The Communist Dictatorship Party opposses.

And why is this allowed? As always, money talks.

Power and Fear are more important than the 20million + Taiwanese people’s human dignity.

26 ( +28 / -2 )

Consideration should be given to regions which successfully embraced COVID-19 in terms of public health response, such as Taiwan,"

Regions? NO, COUNTRIES!, and no country, anywhere, "embraced" COVID19!

Taiwan responded better than most, and their example as well as those of other countries run by women (hint, hint, hint JAPAN) did well, and THEY should be listened to!

15 ( +22 / -7 )

Can't disagree on this one. Taiwan deserves a place in taking part not even taking into account they are largely considered to have had the best response in the world to the virus. Taking that also into account, they deserve to LEAD it.

31 ( +35 / -4 )

Taiwan's participation will benefit the entire world. Resisting it will only benefit the CCP. This isn't rocket science.
