“Our works contribute to the regional peace and stability,” the Japanese navy tweeted.

The reality is these type of exercises only motivates NK to develop their missiles even more...which is exactly the outcome that conservative right wing extremists who profit off of the development and sales of arms want.

Moon bloom, the US can hit Kim so quick,he will not feel any pain,it would be so swift

12 ( +22 / -10 )

North Korea, LOL.

United States should put a military base in Minami Kojima, Kita Kojima if they really want to help Japan.

These naval exercises are complete waste of time.

-23 ( +4 / -27 )

And lurking somewhere below are the subs. Too bad this photo wasn't the Black Sea.

18 ( +21 / -3 )

I wouldn't say Japan is doing it's utmost for the defense of its country.

Look at the pathetic situation of the senkaku and breach of Ishigaki city limits on a regular scedual by the armed Chinese coast guard.

The refusal to sign a peace agreement with Russia and continued sanctions.

And Japan hasn't shot down any of North Korea's missiles that flew over Japan airspace or waters.

Can Japan actually protect itself ?

Without allies .

Japan knows how to be lethal and history has shown that and being timid also

However as far as being a pacifist defense and deterrence country it has yet to be proved.

I agree that Japan is perhaps contributing to destabilizing the region rather than stabilizing.

-24 ( +8 / -32 )

Good on America! And Japan! We need to keep our power known in the presents of the Axis Of Evil in the region. As they say, Power Created Peace.

5 ( +19 / -14 )

Thank you, for further destabilizing the region and bringing us closer to war, pathetic circus..

-20 ( +12 / -32 )

As the tank, these vast floating projections of power are becoming obsolete, they will be pushed further and further out into the deep blue as potential adversaries continue to develop hypersonic aircraft carrier killing missiles. The Nimitz class, for example, are incredible machines, but the sun is setting on their dominance.

-5 ( +9 / -14 )

War with NK is inevitable, it's not if but when.

The US, Japan, and SK should be working on plans to end this tyrant hold on power by any means possible or face the inevitable but at much greater losses of lives.

2 ( +13 / -11 )

Considering the upcoming 10th and 110th anniversary demonstrations reportedly planned by The Unstable Ones and their military minions - along with their amazingly petulant and unstable behavior each time their bad behavior is upstaged by another international whack job of the highest order (guess who?) - this turns into a prudent and necessary readiness exercise.

10 ( +16 / -6 )

Thank you, for further destabilizing the region and bringing us closer to war, pathetic circus

the only regime destabilising the region is China, who constantly infringe on other country’s territories, & claim every metre of ocean is theirs.

The reality is these type of exercises only motivates NK to develop their missiles even more

This crazy dictator doesn’t need any motivation to develop missiles. He does it to stroke his ego

12 ( +21 / -9 )

Also mark down on your April Madness calendar: April 25th as the 130th year since founding of the KPA.

What is the sound that one hand clapping makes?

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Merely expensive sabre rattling. However it does support the arm's based economy of the rogue state of the USA.

-7 ( +9 / -16 )

Lil 'Kim, you're on notice...and you too BB xi.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

Thank you, for further destabilizing the region and bringing us closer to war, pathetic circus..

The only reason your precious Japan still exists is because of US presence.

-5 ( +12 / -17 )

I do not think the US should be involved in these little Asian fights. Let Asia take care of their own affairs. Hopefully they can take each other out so that they become more servile to American interests.

-26 ( +1 / -27 )

tooheysnew-

Are you aware that Russia is also Asia and Europe and part of the region ?

Obviously this region is not being destabilized by any one country alone .

Territory issues and land grabbing conflicts have occurred constantly in the region.

The west has always sought to stifle China and control trade since the first industrial revolution and before.

Cant blame everything on China alone.

-16 ( +3 / -19 )

This seems to serve no point except antagonizing North Korea and justifying their defensive buildup honestly. Short of North Korea launching an attack on Japan first, which they would never do, Japan can't get involved in military operations against North Korea. Unless a constitutional revision is coming way sooner than we expect it to.

the only regime destabilising the region is China, who constantly infringe on other country’s territories, & claim every metre of ocean is theirs.

Remind me how many wars China has been involved in in the past 20 years? 30 years? They've had some occasional skirmishes with India, something I hope gets resolved soon, but that is it.

How about the US?

Who exactly is infringing on other country's territories?

China has the largest navy in the world and it's getting bigger.

If you think this small fleet of ships is a show of force then you might reconsider that thought.

-18 ( +1 / -19 )

Are you aware that Russia is also Asia

of course, what’s your point ?

Obviously this region is not being destabilized by any one country alone .

yes, but has any other country made an ‘island’ out of nothing, & put a military base on it ?

China has the largest navy in the world

largest doesn’t equal best

12 ( +15 / -3 )

War with NK is inevitable, it's not if but when.

I think you must live in a comfortable armchair in The Great Old USA. NK has nukes that can reach USA using hypersonic technology, somebody gave them, that USA can’t stop. NK can just bomb every NPP in Japan and it’s bye bye. SK and NK will obliterate each other. All us bases in Japan will be destroyed with the loss of 45,000 young men and women.

the outcomes…China will be the winner.

solution, stop sanctioning NK, reunification and acceptance that democracy is a failed concept.

China has the largest navy in the world and it's getting bigger.

Haven't you learned anything from watching the struggling Russian invasion of Ukraine? Do you really believe that "size" is everything?

China could have the largest navy in the world but it has zero naval combat experience. No country has as much experience as the United States. Even Japan is the only nation in Asia that has actual naval combat experience including aircraft carrier operations. China's PLA Navy, if it ever comes to a real conflict will be up against the navies of not just the US and Japan, but Australia, India, UK and the NATO members.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

It would be nice if under the new Presidet Yoon, South Korea would improve relations with Japan to the point that we could hold three country joint exercises. So far this seems to be the direction we are headed, much to North Korea and China's dissappointment.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

OssanAmerica

Why in the world should the US care about these little Asian countries?

I would be okay with China, NK, SK and Japan all taking each other out.

-18 ( +2 / -20 )

Thank you, for further destabilizing the region and bringing us closer to war, pathetic circus..

Hard to accept that opinion from those cheerleading Russia's ongoing warmongering and the Kremlin's threats to use nukes. Living in Tokyo should give reasonable people a perspective on how good life in Japan can be, especially in comparison with life behind Putin's well oiled Iron curtains, or anywhere near territory Russia wants to claim.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Lately most of the news related about Japan are about increasing of military expense, military drills, military alliances and the never ending story of the changing of the constitution.

But on the other hand we barely hear about the government trying to intervene on the welfare, improvement of human rights and the impoverishment of the middle class.

Awful how these aged Jiminto/Nippon kaigi use the taxes that we pay for this country.

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

Japan, U.S. hold navy drills off Koreas:

How many times must US & Japan conduct joint military naval drills in East Sea annually?

Is it just for defense purpose, or having unspeakable hidden agenda in mind?

Preparing to fight China while instigating a Taiwan attack..?

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

I would be okay with China, NK, SK and Japan all taking each other out.

You do know that China is the first or second biggest economy and first largest population. Japan is the worlds third biggest economy, SK and Taiwan are the worlds biggest semiconductor producers, and America is not doing so well.

they are not “little Asian countries”.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Even though N. Korea and China already know the capability of US forces, it's a good idea to "remind" them every once in a while.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

what a "peacemakers"...

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Should be more than sufficient to take those few Koreans on Takeshima into custody and bring that little island back home. So they just can prove and show what and that they’ve learned something in that little training.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

This seems to serve no point except antagonizing North Korea and justifying their defensive buildup honestly.

The point it serves is the interoperability of the ships of two nations. Being able to work effectively together at fleet level and conduct missions of varying types together. Practice is a hallmark for all good military's. They practice their craft and increase competence while learning from each other.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

They should drop the war games at NK's demand, for no concessions again, like Trump did. He's shown us the light, it's the only way we can appease Kim, and get the love letters flowing back into America from NK again.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

tooheysnew-

Obviously my point is and if you'd like to pay attention- that Russians invasion of Ukraine if affecting the stability of the region as is Japan and China and Korea's and USA and all the countries involved in the sanctions against Russia.

So its not only China thats threatening the stability of the region is it !

Or are you completely unaware of the busiest shipping routes of the world ?

That's my point !

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

But on the other hand we barely hear about the government trying to intervene on the welfare, improvement of human rights and the impoverishment of the middle class.

Why single Japan out on those issues? China, Russia and North Korea never do anything concrete in those area's as they are to busy ensuring they have firm and total control of their people. In comparison Japan is doing a great job.

The buildup of military is insurance against their hostile neighbors building their own military's.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

China's middle class is growing quite fast.

North Korea and Russia are being sanctioned by the world, so their predicament is understandable.

The typical Japanese is pretty poor.

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

How many times must US & Japan conduct joint military naval drills in East Sea annually?

how many times should a person practice if they want to become a pro ?

little Ukraine have been training constantly for the last 8 years, & now they’re kicking Russia’s arse.

pray for peace, but prepare for war.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

OssanAmerica-

I cant view the Ukraine invasion conflict from my chair in Japan and all the information available who knows what's truth.

If the USA military involvement in Afghanistan and the Vietnam war and the nuclear holocaust of Japan are supposed to impress me of the USA military expertise then unfortunately iam really not impressed.

Typical arrogant Americans assume they are the greatest superpower on the planet.

It's not true !

China has the giant super computer .

Conventional weaponry expertise means nothing anymore .

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

There is a lot of, "This does nothing, just let North Korea do whatever they want" in these comments.

The disinformation campaign is in full force, sad to think that some people fall for it.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

tooheysnew -

In actual fact China isnt the only military in the region to turn a coral lagoon into a military base.

The USA military are doing it in Okinawa !

Or perhaps your not aware of that either.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

OssanAmerica-

Being that the USA military is less than 300 years old i would have to disagree that the USA navy has more experience.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Should either North Korea or China attack Japan with missiles, without any doubt, the U.S. would retaliate against it in no time. But will the U.S. respond to such missile attacks because of treaty obligations that are struck home in the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty?  I doubt it.

The U.S. will retaliate against North Korean or Chinese missile attacks, firstly, because the missiles are sure to be targeted at U.S. bases for starters and, secondly, because the U.S. doesn't want to lose the war and give in any inch of its sphere of influence to a hostile nation.

So, should Japan thank to the U.S. and provide them with so many bases, facilities and arears for free, even build a new base with the construction cost estimated to amount to 930 billion yen, giving it to them free of charge?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

The USA military are doing it in Okinawa !

Okinawa may have been a coral reef, about 10 million years ago. And it is not a man made island

China has the giant super computer

America has the super duper computer

All this whining about the arrogance of the US and their military superiority over every country is laughable. Whatever country you hail from and whatever freedoms you have of still enjoy are compliments of the US….

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Russia launching a missile not in the script presumably.

Putin HAS to go.

Don't be obtuse. We are talking about a modern navy. China has zero experience. Their learning curve ended when the Chinese Navy (Qing Dynasty) was destroyed by the Japanese navy in 1884/85.

The Chinese PLA Navy is growing but untested.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Such a shame that Japan has the world's worst set of 3 neighbours, with the most vicious and repressive regimes, Russia, China & North Korea.

No rational liberal-minded person would ever chose to live for one-second in one of these disgusting countries - but the answer doesn't mean that the freedom-loving democracies of the world have to bomb the hell out of them. Change can only take place by revolution within these countries, however difficult this will be, and all Western allies can be smart by infiltrating with the propaganda and cyber-messaging to aid the revolutionary struggles ahead. From revolution comes evolution......

What an amazing photo! God bless the U.S.A. and Nippon!

Japan stop following the blind and dumb. Never provoke a sleeping giant. Asian proverb, a baby cow, do not know, what a tiger looks like when angry.

Just be happy you are safe and that you can have such freedoms to enjoy "Tokyo living!!!

War with NK is inevitable, it's not if but when.

I think you must live in a comfortable armchair in The Great Old USA. NK has nukes that can reach USA using hyper sonic technology, somebody gave them, that USA can’t stop. LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS, KEEP BELIEVING WHAT YOU READ, AND DON'T KNOW!

NK can just bomb every NPP in Japan and it’s bye bye. SK and NK will obliterate each other. All us bases in Japan will be destroyed with the loss of 45,000 young men and women. LMFAO THE US CAN CALL END GAME NOW AND HIT NK BEFORE THEY EVEN KNOW WERE THERE. LIKE MAGIC IN AND OUT. AGAIN LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS

the outcomes…China will be the winner. LMFAO RUSSIA thought Ukraine was a push over. China may have a million man arm, but they are not battle hardened!!! China weaponry is like everything else they make do I need to say more. As you can see the planes Russia is using was SUPPOSED to bring them air superiority LMFAO that crap is getting shot out of the skies so they have to lob ICBMs from the sea. Everything China makes is a copy of something some other country DESIGNED that's because they steal everything. Those aircraft lol lets see what they can do in a DOG FIGHT! Lets see when they have to pull some G's how the structures hold up. AGAIN LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS you can say what you want to say but I am talking about what I know!! I see it so I believe it, not just reading post!!!

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

@Kyo wa heiwa dayo neT

*China has the giant super computer *What good is it when you don't own the algorithms you may own the chips, but if you don't control the SWA you point is moot!!!!

Japan stop following the blind and dumb. Never provoke a sleeping giant. Asian proverb, a baby cow, do not know, what a tiger looks like when angry. LMFAO Let the giant sleep, once awaken he is disoriented anyways. About your LOL proverb well A baby tiger does not know what a baby cow looks like!!! Confucianism at its best!!

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Whether Japan and the US does this, North Korea would still keep launching missiles anyway - so may as well do it

Better to be trained and be prepared, than to be caught with your pants down

Remember, North Korea started the 1950's Korean War by invading an unprepared South Korea

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The Korean War was started by Stalin and the ignorance of USA after Japan exiting the Pacific War and the Soviet atomic bomb possession/theft.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Kim started the Korean war. There was no ignorance by the US after Japan lost the Pacific war.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I do not think the US should be involved in these little Asian fights. Let Asia take care of their own affairs.

The last couple of times the US did that they ended up being attacked at Pearl Harbor and again in Korea. After that WWII the US largely stood down, decommissioned much of the Navy, closed Air Force bases and sent soldiers home. America was done with war. The US didn't occupy South Korea. No need too. The US very few troops in South Korea in 1950. The war was over, most were there to train up the South Koreans. Then the Norks attacked. At some point you figure out it is maybe a better idea to have credible forces forward deployed instead of waiting for someone to attack you by surprise.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Neither the US or South Korea wants to start a war there. That is the very last thing they want. About half the South Korean population lives within the range of North Korean artillery. The first day of such a war would see casualties on the order of 100,000 dead per hour. Nobody wants that to happen. The whole reason the US has forces in the region is to prevent such a tragedy. Lessons learned from 1950 when the US didn't have forces in South Korea and the Norks attacked. Having sufficient forces in place and the credible threat to use it is the only way to prevent countries like DPRK, PRC or Russia from attacking you. Those exercises and bases are heck of a lot less costly than the wars that would result from their absense.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Rodney,US would hit Kim, before he can waddle out of bed, with the US Stealth fleet

2 ( +3 / -1 )

So its OK for Japan to hold drills off the coast of the Korean peninsular but bad for Russia to do the same in international waters near Japan?

Bwahaha.

Not sorry, just couldn't help.

"Finally, wealth in Japan is fairly evenly distributed among its large middle class, which lands it in seventh place on the median wealth list at $103,861. One possible reason is that the pay gap ratio between Japanese CEOs and the average worker is much lower than other developed nations."

OECD figures state pretty much the same thing.

China who?!
