S. Korea should get on board with that 3 way alliance.

Everything that S. Korea has done is to fuel the fire, to bring relations to ever lower levels. A recent poll shows S. Korea would support North Korea in a war rather than Japan.

They are going back in time to 1965 Agreement and trying to dismantle that agreement which took 15 years to sign and billions paid in todays money which S. Korea says it doesn't cover comfort women and now not even the labor workers are covered under that agreement.

2015 comfort woman agreement also gone in 2018 when Moon came to power.

They also think Japanese food is radioactive and banned it, boycotting Japanese products on mass as well.

They want Takeshima to be recognize as S. Korean teritority.

Sea of Japan they want to change the name of.

They want to dictate Japanese text books the way they feel it should.

They want apologies later to say it never happened.

Agreements signed are only temporary with mood swings changing Korean feelings on the subject overnight.

Korea is the number #1 Japan hating country in the world! Even China is moving on Koreans, we are having better relations with China then with you!

This what cognitive dissonance sounds like. The 'im a perpetual victim despite fanning the flames' mentality prevalent in most circles. Well abe and his ilk made their bed. Time to take a nap. These aren't the 1900s anymore. Bullys never win. Eventually.

Change the name to Moon and you perfectly described South Korea.

@Wallace Fred

When you hate, you turn blind. You just described Moon and South Korea. Korea plays victim time and time again. Tell yourself this is 1900s anymore and move on. Tell yourself too (and Moon) that bullies never win. You dont even know you are describing yourself. Take a nap. Take your own advice. Stop the hate.

22 ( +24 / -2 )

@Wallace Fred

And yes, South Korea is the number 1 Japan hating country in the whole world.

21 ( +24 / -3 )

Ah, here we go again.

S. Korea should get on board with that 3 way alliance.

If Japan doesn't trust Korea, why should Korea? To help Japan give out a fake facade to China and North Korea and pretend it's all rosy when it's not?

Everything that S. Korea has done is to fuel the fire, to bring relations to ever lower levels.

Did you forget that this all started when Japan accused Korea of not being trustworthy?

A recent poll shows S. Korea would support North Korea in a war rather than Japan.

Wrong. It showed there were more S Koreans willing to support North Korea than Japan, not South Korea as a nation. Your argument is pathetic because if there was another Korean War, the Japanese would never support either North or South Korea. At least there were some Koreans willing to fight for Japan.

They are going back in time to 1965 Agreement and trying to dismantle that agreement which took 15 years to sign and billions paid in todays money which S. Korea says it doesn't cover comfort women and now not even the labor workers are covered under that agreement.

South Korea never dismantled the 1965 agreement. The UNCHR even sided with Korea saying that the 1965 treaty did not cover claims against comfort women. That is why they requested Japan to compensate the comfort women separately. The UNCHR also mentioned that the treaty never covered inhumane acts. This has also been the view of the Japanese government prior to Abe.

Further, Japan paid out less than $5 billion in today's money, which is less than the EUR100 billion paid out by Germany. The billions you talk about is nothing to boast about.

2015 comfort woman agreement also gone in 2018 when Moon came to power.

Moon never scrapped the agreement. It's another one of Abe's lies.

They also think Japanese food is radioactive and banned it, boycotting Japanese products on mass as well.

Not just the Koreans, but the Americans, EU, Taiwan, Russia.. etc all banned Japanese seafood due to radiation. And don't be a hypocrite. If Korea had a nuclear meltdown, the Japanese would be the first to ban imports of Korean seafood.

They want Takeshima to be recognize as S. Korean teritority.

It is already recognized as Korean territory not just under international law, but historically and geographically.

Sea of Japan they want to change the name of.

Wrong, they are requesting to use both Sea of Japan and East Sea.

They want to dictate Japanese text books the way they feel it should.

Asking text books to truthfully reflect history does not mean dictate the way they feel. Even many Japanese who migrate overseas realize how distorted their own text books are. If Japan never teaches the truth to future generations, history will repeat itself. Korea doesn't want to be invaded by Japan every 300 years or so ever again.

They want apologies later to say it never happened.

Lip service is not called an apology. It's the full remorse that counts. Worshiping war criminals, distorting history, using the rising sun flag etc. negates all the apologies ever given by any politician.

Agreements signed are only temporary with mood swings changing Korean feelings on the subject overnight.

Care to point out which agreements are temporary?

Korea is the number #1 Japan hating country in the world! Even China is moving on Koreans, we are having better relations with China then with you!

It's akin to Israel hating Germany the most. Your point is? And if you use logic, it's highly correlated to periods when Japan antagonizes Korea.

In terms of sheer numbers though, I would say the Chinese far outnumber the Koreans. If you go to some provinces in China, the vitriolic languages used by most to describe the Japanese in everyday life is something I cannot repeat in this comment, and these are things I've never heard any Korean say.

Don't expect every nation to love Japan, not especially when Japan is not being truthful about its past.

Genocide? Genocide is the intentional eradication of a race or nationality. Why then, did the average life expectancy and population of Korea and other SE Asian and pacific island nations increase during the Japanese occupation/annexation.

I understand there were many ugly aspects of Japan’s colonial rule, but there was never any systematic eradication of any population group.

16 ( +20 / -4 )

Various agents and agencies the world over use profiling to better understand and predict a query who can be an individual or institution.

By using the same method above, in regards to Japan's relationship with everyone they encountered, one can't deny the pathological genocidal tendencies / trait. Are they in recession within? Just waiting for a trigger?

Knowing this tendency is good for everyone to just keep in mind, and beware for the beginning of transmogrification of that society.

> Why then, did the average life expectancy and population of Korea and other SE Asian and pacific island nations increase during the Japanese occupation/annexation.

I don't blame you, Beer delivery guy.

Colonizers / Abusers the world over have aptly used justifications, rationalization,, minimization, and every other tool , to achieve the effect like one on you.

If Japan still belives that america is needed, then it is the end of japan.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

3 way ties are the key to security? Hocus pokus. The key to security is to stop poking at your neighbors and making them think they need to beef up their security. All America has done in the region in the last 30 years is spark an arms race. An arms race is the opposite of security. China's military spending went up and North Korea went nuclear. This is precisely because of this 3 way alliance with one of the members not even being from this region plus invading other countries for war profits every once in a while.

George Washington is rolling in his grave. His admonition to avoid the dangers of permanent alliances (entanglements) and political parties went unheeded. He was right.

Someone seems completely left behind. Comfort women damage-claim lawsuit to restart today Nov 13 at Seoul Central Regional Court.

Well, they are following the advice of the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED). The CED declared that the Japanese government’s view that the comfort women issue has been resolved through the 2015 agreement "is inadequate". Further, the CED stated that the 2015 agreement denies the rights of the victims and contended that Japan’s compensation has been insufficient.

In other words, according to UN, Abe stuffed up the 2015 agreement.

Wow wow grandpa the gold old days of doing bad things n blaming others for it is long gone so no blaming n whining is going to work just respect the international treaty or face the US sanction n economic disaster n please don't blame Japan again for ur incompetence n failure

Except that, as I told you in the other thread, those UN committees like The Committee on Enforced Disappearances , The Committee Against Torture, or The Committee on the elimination of discrimination against women, all under Human Rights Treaties Bodies, officially criticized 2015 agreement, are actually independent of, do not belong to nor represent UN. Those committees are not even stipulated in the Charter of the United Nations. FYI SK is not even a state party, nor signatory of International Convention for the Protection of all Persons from Enforced Disappearance :2010

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I do not understand.

Koreans are not trustworthy. Then would any intel supplied by Korea be trustworthy? Not according to most of you.

Then why even bother? Wouldn't it be logical to sever ties step by step if both Korea and Japan don't consider the other to be trustworthy?

That seems to be the sentiment of most Koreans these days.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Your point is?

Those Committees, which consists of member experts, are set up to do the investigative work and report back to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, who then takes on the recommendations provided by the Committees. It's all part of the UN organ.

If it wasn't significant, then you wouldn't have had the Japanese government rebutting their recommendations.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

The key to security in the region is to have someone in the White House who can be depended on. After betraying both the Kurds and Ukrainians, everyone has to be wondering who he will betray next.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It's all part of the UN organ.

No It is not. None of those committees are stipulated in the charter of UN. They are independent of,

do not represent UN.

Ban Ki-moon, then-Secretary-General of the United Nations cerebrated and valued the agreement directly over the phone with SK president. Bangura, Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in conflict praised the agreement as epoch-making.

Check Daily Press Briefing by the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General

https://www.un.org/press/en/2016/db160308.doc.htm

Question: Thank you. I would like to ask you about the comfort women issues between South Korea and Japan. The UN Committee on the elimination of discrimination against women criticized Monday the agreement on comfort women between two countries because it didn't adopt a [inaudible] centred approach. On the other hand, Secretary‑General has welcomed bilateral agreement in his statement. There seems to be a gap in understanding between Secretary‑General and the panel committee. Why are they cross‑purposed?

Spokesman: I don't know if they're cross‑purposed. The Secretary‑General made his comments when the agreement was signed, also that, obviously, the welfare of the women was extremely important. The committee you're referring to is an independent committee over which the Secretary‑General has no authority or no link with. So, it's just… it's an opinion. The Secretary‑General, for his part, has expressed his opinion.  Luke.

In other words, according to UN, Abe stuffed up the 2015 agreement.

Simply put, It is not according to UN, but according to (a) specific committee(s) which is not (a) part of UN organ but outer equipment(s) hanging under UNHCR.

Those are just opinions, recommendations, non-binding whatsoever but Japan as a state party of this convention (CED) responded as supposed to do so as a state party to those opinions, and as I said, SK is not a state party nor signatory as of now.

Simply put, It is not according to UN, but according to (a) specific committee(s) which is not (a) part of UN organ but outer equipment(s) hanging under UNHCR.

Wow, simply unbelievable. Grasping at straws.

Who established those Committees and who do they report to? The OHCHR.

Who established the OHCHR and who do they report to? The UN General Assembly.

Of course the Committees are not in the UN Charter. The Charter doesn’t include the nitty gritty details. It’s up to the relevant authorities to establish them when and if required.

Like all large organizations, the UN delegates tasks to the relevant authorities. It’s called delegated authority. Your logic of bringing up the Secretary General for something that is the responsibility of the Committee is like asking the Chairman of Sony Corporation to direct the movies for Sony Pictures.

They are all part of the UN organ, be it principle or subsidiary organ of UN.

Hence, the recommendation by the UNCHR etc are the voice of UN.

END OF STORY.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

If it is the voice representing UN, it would never be at cross-purposes, especially at the level of UN Secretary‑General. Just simple as that.

End of Story.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Oops. Right. It is OHCHR not UNHCR , that introduces those committees in its Website.

Wow, simply unbelievable. Grasping at straws.

Who established those Committees and who do they report to? The OHCHR.

No. It is not OHCHR that established those committes(=The human Rights treaties bodies). It is state parties (contracting parties) to each Int’l convention (treaty) or each treaty itself that established them. OHCHR is merely functioning as secretariat on behalf of those committees. You might be able to see their activity-reports in OHCHR web-site but that doesn’t mean they are reporting to OHCHR.

Of course the Committees are not in the UN Charter. The Charter doesn’t include the nitty gritty details. It’s up to the relevant authorities to establish them when and if required.

Wrong. The Committees are not in the UN charter as those do not belong to UN organ. Those are independent organ established by treaties themselves (or you might say contracting parties) that defined the committee's mandate within the said treaties.

Like all large organizations, the UN delegates tasks to the relevant authorities. It’s called delegated authority. Your logic of bringing up the Secretary General for something that is the responsibility of the Committee is like asking the Chairman of Sony Corporation to direct the movies for Sony Pictures.

No their opinion or recommendation are all their own independent ones which do not represent UN

*whoever calling those committees starting "UN Committee on ..." simply has such prejudice. *

As I've said, the United States is not happy with South Korea's unilateral intent to dump GSOMIA and disrupt the US-JPN-SK alliance. It is obvious that under the Moon regime, South Korea is leaving the U.S. camp.

"Trump is demanding that South Korea pay roughly 500% more in 2020 to cover the cost of keeping US troops on the peninsula, a congressional aide and an administration official confirmed to CNN."
