The two leaders also reaffirmed working toward resolving North Korea's past abductions of Japanese nationals

Wouldn't it be easier to work with the Chinese? But I guess Japan can't do that now because they broke their 1972 agreement with China with respect to Taiwan. You can never trust the Japanese government.

Just nuclear china. It’ll solve all the world problems

Good news. Vietnam is a great nation of freedom loving people just like Japan.

Japan should be gifting Vietnam more retired patrol ships and other weapons to stand up to the Commies as they try to steal more and more Vietnamese territory. Furthermore, Japan could fund and heconstruct Vietnamese military outposts in the South China sea.

Japanese media puts the words into the Vietnamese PM's mouth again.

There is no single mention of China, and this is a state-sponsored newspaper in Vietnam.

The two leaders also reaffirmed working toward resolving North Korea's past abductions of Japanese nationals, among other issues concerning the country.

There is no mention "North Korea" on the Vietnamese source. I don't understand why Japan brought this up because Vietnam has no authority over NK as well as any relation with Japanese issues of North Korea. Absolutely redundant!

That's all Suga can do. B!tch on the phone.

Yeah, all talk and no action is not going to deter China from anything. They just keep walking over you.

China is the future of the world. We should join. Belt and Road.

Hot news. Them talking to each other on the phone is going to deter China.

Cooperation between Japan and other regional nations like Vietnam is a positive move.

China is nothing and irrelevant. Everyone who signed up for belt and road should follow Australia's lead and cancel it. Nobody should support China's evil ambitions of dominance.

walk the walk and tone down economic relationships and dependencies with china. the whole world should move away from that awful regime, and that's ignoring the fact that they cast the world with covid-19. they were awful long before that.

If Japan wants to be an enemy of China, it needs to do something about this--

Japan's annual trade with US--$204 Billion, with China--$280 Billion, and growing very fast.

I shake my head at statements like this. Vietnam is a police state governed by an unelected communist government organized nearly identically to that of China. Other than their mutual enmity, language and food there is precious little difference between the two nations. Calling a nation as repressive and controlling as Vietnam "freedom loving" is offensive to those of us who enjoy meaningful personal, religious and political freedom. Just because a nation is aligned with China's adversaries do not elevate them to the same level as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan or the western democracies.

That's all Suga can do. B!tch on the phone.

Gee, when Mr. Suga visited the US all and sundry here complained bitterly about it, what a waste of time and money and suggested there was no reason why Mr. Suga and Mr. Biden could not have met by teleconference. So here Mr. Suga conducts a teleconference with a foreign leader instead of conducting a state visit and we see complaints that all Mr. Suga can do is complain on the phone. There are some bitter people here unable to see anything positive in the world. They only seem happy when they are mad about something.

That sounds very ominous.

Being under the heel of the CCP is a place most folks would rather not be.

Just ask the Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

Just ask the Uyghurs in Xinjiang

And the people of Hong Kong. This is what happens if you follow China. No thanks. I would rather fight a war and maybe die than submit to such oppression. But if you have enough firepower to begin with the Chinese won't be able to force you to submit. A good defense is a lot less costly than a cheap defense that invites your enemy to attack and maybe conquer you.
