Double speak, Japan hasn't sign and still refuse to sign nuclear ban treaty until this day despite Japan still play victim during WW2 to what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Sakurasuki!
You are exactly correct.
Japanese political empty dialogue.
Don’t they get embarrassed when they pump out this continuous ridiculous double speak?
SarcasmOnly
Is Pledging a particular Japan politics thing, or translation related or is it something everyone does worldwide?
JP leaders are pleding something every day I feel like.
(Hopefully Koike pledges to protect the jingu mae trees/park)

It's never going to work; Japan will just accept this how the world is.
Best they could get would be a pledge for a "No preemptive strike" policy.
WordBrew
Did Russia sign? Did China sign? Did North Korea sign? And if they did would they keep their word?
WordBrew
Japan has the right to defend itself. Japan should get nukes.
WordBrew
And the west and China continues to play the victim.

Nobody cares these dialogue, talking for vains, time wasting. Japan never signed the NPT, that's was an hypocrisy.
Countries like : Russia, China, Israel, North Korea, India, Pakistan they shall never attending these pointless meeting

@WordVrew: Russia sign? Did China sign? Did North Korea sign? And if they did would they keep their word?
The three countries are quite honest telling the world they shall not signing. Israel even refuse to admit they own nuclear weapons!

And remember that neither Abe nor any PM since has met with ICAN even after they were awarded the Noble Peace Prize.

What about the 50 tons of pure plutonium Japan has?
It also happens to own 100,000 pounds of primo, weapons-grade plutonium. That could be enough to create more than 5,000 nuclear bombs. All of this plutonium has been processed, Japanese officials say, to generate electricity.

Bad Haircut
Isn't Guterres the same clown who flies around the world at someone else's expense while scaring children with proclamations of "global boiling"? If he had any credibility at all, at least he'd do his job online.
But I guess the world isn't in that much danger at all from boiling oceans. This week the threat is nukular annihilation so it's OK to fly.
Onlooker
At the time of Putin's current threat of resorting to nuclear weapons, I cannot help but think that efforts for "banning the production of nuclear materials that have the potential to be used in weapons" are out of place, or too late for saving the world. "Better than nothing" venture, but priority should urgently be given to banning use of the available N bombs, particularly by the rogue nations.
Ricky Kaminski13
Remember way back in the day studying international politics and being adamant that Japan would lead the way in denuclearization. The world has since happened, but any attempts to play a positive role in this regard should be welcomed, not with cynicism but with hope. Still believe if everyone went to Hiroshima or Nagasaki once in their lifetime it would have a sobering long lasting effect.
Wish Kamikawa nothing but support with her message strategy. Japan can still play an important role.
OssanAmerica
I’d like to see Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un visit. These two talk like nuclear weapons are the best thing since sliced bread.
Ricky Kaminski13
Yes very true, but they don’t represent the greater world now do they Ossan? Be prepared for war with aggressors , but at the same time strive for something better.
Mr Goodman
And why did those bombings happen ? ? ?
It appears to me nuclear weapons are just as good at upholding peace and security as they are at threatening it.
Perhaps a necessary evil.
If japan thinks its good to get the world to give up their nuclear weapons then they are truly delusional !
And no double standards please
