For those not in the know, the Indo-Pacific is actually “free and open”. The problem is USA wants to control/own it.

Japan wows to work with India and Australia to "free open Pacific?" Why only with India and Australia? And not China as well?

It would be great to work with China towards peace and freedom, if they were interested. However, they are more interested in projecting China's new found military power.

Almost right, you just got the country that wants to control/own it wrong. That would actually be China that wants territorial expansion. It is China that is the biggest threat to peace in the region. No doubts of that what so ever.

Because it is China that is trying to control it so that it is no longer free or open. Nobody wants to help them do that, nobody sane.
