How else can we respond other than with welcome?

Welcome, enjoy looking at Chinese Boats in disputed waters (claimed by Japan) and Abe's arrows, comics and GALA Abenomics !

I cannot speak for younger generation of America, but Caroline Kennedy is like an American Princess to eyes of older generation of America as we have been growing up together with her, JFK and Jackie. We love her.
I strongly believe everyone will go extra miles for her to succeed.so this is a plus for US/Japan diplomacy. This is a perfect spot for her.

Exactly 'globalwatcher'! CK is the American Princess for all those old folks like myself who grew up with the Kennedys. She's one of the few survivors and only in her immediate family. Wonderful that Caroline will be here with us all in Japan! This is nice news.
JeanValJean
And how much was her campaign donation?
Yubaru
Some nobody in the foreign ministry put out a press release. Nothing more, nothing less, no big news really.
CrazyJoe
She is well known but feel a little anxious since she has no track record.

I am sure there are some people who are fluent in Japanese language and know Japanese mentality, culture, etc. She may perform well but if she get nominated, I hope she will promote Japanese bureaucrats in administration. They have been working hard but ignored. Better than using MiddleEast Expert of Hilary haters.
Yubaru
How is she supposed to do this when she works for the AMERICAN government?
mrsynik
Best wishes to her - I sincerely hope the Kennedy curse has ended.

@JeanValJean - I was thinking the same thing.. I recently read a story about ambassadorships basically being "sold" to the highest bidder, or in other words, who raised (or donated?) the most to the Obama campaign. weird stuff being in politics
toshiko
@Yubaru I am writing about USA administration employees. There are people who have Japanese ancestors. Some studied abroad in Japan. They are not unique. Spanish speaking, Chinese speaking, etc are more used, but not Japanese speaking people yet
Didn't you know that American have different people in bureaucrats or anywhere? . Melting Pot Country.

"some experts have expressed concern that she might lack the capacity to handle thorny issues in the U.S.-Japan relationship such as trade talks, tensions between Japan and China, and frictions over U.S. military personnel based in Japan."
So some people think she's not qualified to be ambassador. Heck, some people think Barack Obama isn't qualified for his job, but there he be!
toshiko
I think she will be appointed, not because Kennedy name. but because she is clean on anything in USA political scenes. Better to have her than a a war happy Arab foreign expert. It was her decision that she did not go to politics. So, she did not accumulate dirty politics experience. At least she visited Japan. Obama must be thinking to shift eyes to Japan than messy middle east.
OldHawk
I certainly hope she does a better job than grandfather Joe did in England.

I think the biggest point in her favor for ambassador to Japan is that NOBODY can point out a situation where she "stepped in it"... and you know her opponents have been looking for something, too. Ambassadors work best when they are not making headlines for saying something stupid. It appears she is more than capable of not looking foolish in public.
Serrano
"It appears she is more than capable of not looking foolish in public."
Does she appear to be capable of doing the job of U.S. Ambassador to Japan?
