Japan hopes to avoid trade battle by wooing Trump with pomp

Sheldon Adelson and others have shown Trump's more easily wooed with cash.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

If Abe has forged a relationship with Trump, then he should know that feeding Trump's ego is not enough, you have to also feed his wallet. Abe is playing a failed card; always has.

14 ( +17 / -3 )

As much as I dont like to admit it, this is the best way to get Trump to agree to anything, play up to his ego, make him feel like a king, kiss his arse, and make sure the world sees it.

He'll be tweeting away, and praising the very, very, very, beautiful things that Abe and Japan have done for him.

23 ( +24 / -1 )

Hey, actually a good plan!

Trump is who he is, good for some things, quite bad morally as a leader, but he is a trade hawk and getting on the money.

You cannot infinitely enrich a rival who threatens to end you.

You cannot infinitely enrich a rival who threatens to end you.

Japan is threatening to end the US?

Every world leader knows the key to getting what they want from Donny is to fluff his ego. Don's painfully transparent.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Abe always gets his way.

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

Kissing US government butt might work.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

How incredibly dense this regime is!! The groveling coupled with the brown nosing is an additional insult to the people they purport to govern. A truly disgusting embarrassment!!

Chip Star

I am referring to the US-China conflict. And the way that the China-USA relationship is going since China became massively wealthy over the last 20 years.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Great idea. Make him feel like Cleopatra in Rome.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

FizzBit, maybe not Cleopatra, but Nero.

Ya know, the guy who was quite successful in burning all and everything.

But I am sure, Abe is pretty good at pleasing Donnie in each and any way.

I initially read that as "pimp". It's interesting the way the brain works before it's fully awake.

Got ya. Thanks for the reply.

China getting massively wealthy is not solely the fault of China given the American appetite for low-prices goods and American corporations appetites for low cost production, which caused them to open shop in China.

Then you remember it's the easiest way to get what you want from Donny and may avoid a trade dispute that harms Japanese consumers.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Wait a minute. Wasn't that what they tried before ?

And didn't Trump impose tariffs a short time afterward ?

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will treat U.S. President Donald Trump to an imperial banquet, front row seats at a sumo tournament and a trip to the country's biggest warship on a state visit as Tokyo seeks to avoid a bust-up over trade.

TRANSLATION:

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe face will treat U.S. President Donald Trump' backside to a state visit as Tokyo seeks to avoid a bust-up over trade.

Yes, flattering Trump's ego is the way to go. Only I feel sorry that he will be the first world leader that the new Emperor will have to greet. That will be in the history books forever here in Japan, and ensure that Trump is remembered here in Japan long after he has been forgotten in the West.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

with "pomp"

Just blow him already.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

will host a lavish dinner

If they did some research they would know all they need is the nearest McD

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Abe has got to put the money where his mouth is 'cos to paraphrase the immortal Frank Zappa, "brown noses won't make it"!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Dump is still mad that Prime Minister Abe Shinzo's letter wasn't beautiful enough to get him a Nobel Peace Prize. LOL!

4 ( +7 / -3 )

New Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Harvard-educated Empress Masako will host a lavish dinner for Trump during his stay

I hope the new Empress can converse with a man-child with a fifth grade vocabulary.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Never seen so many police and security around the palace and surrounding areas in central Tokyo. They’re going all out with this visit.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Flatter the ego of the child for another year and eight months, and hope sanity returns to Washington at that point.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

People are so dumb. Its such a easy solution. Give Trump Casino the gambling license to build a casino in Tokyo. Guarantee all trade talks will go smoothly!!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Trump loves ceremonies, formal occasions and huge banquets. Compared to Obama who was too casual, in my opinion. This welcome which includes being the first foreigner guest of the new Emperor, will really honor Trump. The trade deal will be smoother because of this. The Sumo and Golf will be a chance for PM Abe and Trump to develop their famous relationship.

Trump will be very warmly welcomed in Japan.

-13 ( +3 / -16 )

'Lavish' dinner, huh?

What, Japanese McD's, double quarter pounder with cheese, large fries, chocolate milkshake?

lol

4 ( +7 / -3 )

The "safety first" mentality of the Japanese will ensure that they stick with Trump's junk-food menu rather than risking feeding him sushi in case there is a repetition of pappy Bush's unfortunate foray into the Japanese cuisine and Trump ends up barfing over Abe.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

What, Japanese McD's, double quarter pounder with cheese, large fries, chocolate milkshake? lol

LOL is right on that one. Nah, a Whopper, onion rings and coffee will fill the bill nicely.

Never seen so many police and security around the palace and surrounding areas in central Tokyo. They’re going all out with this visit.

We're talking about the president of the United States here.

Ganbare Japan! : Trump loves ceremonies, formal occasions and huge banquets.

Thanks a lot for reminding me that their relationship is famous!

Ganbare Japan!Today  09:29 am JST

Trump will be very warmly welcomed in Japan.

Yes - by his groveler-in-chief Shinzo Abe. Not anyone else.

Sheldon Adelson and others have shown Trump's more easily wooed with cash.

He may be a billionaire but cash is definitely his second favorite thing. Bill Clinton knows what I’m talking about ;-)

Abe will attempt to sake and sumo the head honcho to avert the threatened tariffs. Will a visit to the cabaret clubs be included?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Great knowing Americans and Japanese pay taxes so these two can play a round of golf together every now and again.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Trump will probably ask for some Cracker Jacks, Diet Coke, and some KFC original nuggets at the sumo tournament, lololol

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

he's easily swayed by the opposite sex

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Ignore the US and find other trading partners. Japan, gain some self respect! The same message to the rest of the world.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Abe san has got this all wrong.

trump uses Abe san as a pawn in a nasty game. trump will use Abe when needed then S--T all over Japan

when trump does not get his way.

Recent history shows this as FACT.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

trump is ignorant of Japanese customs and protocols.

trump will not bow to the Emperor or the Empress.

trump will try and kiss Maseko-san.

trump will turn his unwanted visit to the Sumo Final Day into a Political Rant about trump.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@PTownsend I am pretty sure there are other ways...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sheldon Adelson and others have shown Trump's more easily wooed with cash.

Obama has shown that Iran is even more easily wooed with cash.

Trump will probably ask for some Cracker Jacks, Diet Coke, and some KFC original nuggets at the sumo tournament, lololol

Sounds good except for the Diet Coke, lololol

he's easily swayed by the opposite sex

LIke I said,  he's gonna watch one or two sumo matches, start talking with a gorgeous Japanese intelligence agent, leave with her in her car, and be taken to Tiger Tanaka's place where Tiger Tanaka will say, "I must say I am disappointed with the ease with which I could pull you in. The one thing my honorable mother taught me long ago was never to get into a car with a strange girl. But you, I'm afraid, will get into anything. With any girl."

Japan hopes to avoid trade battle by wooing Trump with pomp

Wouldn’t “whomping him with poop” be a better idea?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It's a pity that the Japanese public won't protest the Orange One's arrival... when he comes to the UK in June he'll be given the same warm welcome we gave him last time... tee hee :)

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Abe should be throwing the beans at the Oni trump!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I think Abe is just about the only person more cowardly than Trump himself, and Trump knows it and walks all over Japan. He'll take all the wooing, then he'll slap tariffs on Japan if he wants to.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

The trouble with democracy is that it sometimes gives us terrible leaders. That said, democracy is still better, usually, than dictatorships.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Trump can be wooed all you want but he will stab you in the back if it is in his interests. His own personal narrow interests, not national interests. These personality traits have led him to be a failure in business and in the presidency.

Next we have Abe. A peep squeak in front of the US and arrogant rightist in Japan who has trashed press freedoms and tried on force on us an impossible imperial totalitarianism. interestingly, he is an imperial reactionary up against a liberal monarchy.

What will these two talk about when they meet. Nothing worthwhile is my guess.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

1glenn: "That said, democracy is still better, usually, than dictatorships." But Japan, and  most of the world has been under US dictatorship for the past years. The problem is that most of the world now doesn't recognise the difference between democracy and dictatorship; they are under US dictatorship and pretend its democracy.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Wrong DIRECTION, throw the salt at trump. Abe san, u need luck.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hey Japan we destroyed your economic growth in the 80s with the Plaza accord, and now that we hear your economy is rising at a pathetic 1% to 2% we're coming for you again! No matter if you opened dozens of factories in US and employing over 1 million Americans, don't matter that you pay %75 of the cost of hosting US troops.

They are trying to Stop China now that their #2 economically from surpassing the US, just like Japan was #2 ready to surpass America until the unfair treaties was sign. Standing up to America is the only way to get a better/fair, more equal relations.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The Bromance continues. Well I'm lost in love...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump wants long overdue equal access to all markets . Ceremony and ego pumping will not matter. The grand 1 way trade days are over. Pendulum swings to new world competition instead of global parasitism .
