Increased cooperation with the United States!? Are you kidding? Better side with China, Russia and Europe. There is no future in siding with a country whose policy is America First.

If I remember correctly, the top Minister of cyberdefence in Japan doesn't know how to use a USB or a computer?

Japanese companies need access to the US military. The US does all the innovating and development and Japan applies that to consumer products. Without being able to acquire all of the information for free Japanese companies would die.

I'm not sure Japan should be collaborating with the Great Satan at this period in time. Perhaps when the Trump era of broken promises, lies and supporting dictators has ended and the USA is restored.
There's other partners out there, far more trustworthy.

They would do better in cultivating potatoes on the far side of the Moon. Space based “defense” is insanely expensive and has proven to be useless since the Reagan years.

and i am pretty sure the top Minister of space defence has never been to space... i bet he doesn't even speak any extra-terrestrial language.

They want to be part of the "Space force". They need some inspiration for the next big manga sensation!
By the way, Insane Wayne is right! Most of Japan's technological advances and research are outsourced with Japanese managers overseeing the projects like Minister of Cyberdefense. I worked with the R&D department for a major tech company here almost all of the researchers were foreigners.
People usually talk about foreigners on farms, construction and factories. But you rarely here about all those tech workers getting paid peanuts for the hard work.

@tony G - Yes, it was Yoshitaka Sakurada, the country's newly appointed deputy minister responsible for cyber security, who admitted in parliament that he hasn't touched a computer in his 43-year career. When pressed about use of USB sticks in Japanese nuclear facilities, the 68-year-old Luddite appeared vexed.
He's also is a board member of the Tokyo Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games.

And he thinks that Russians will be stupid enough to hand over the strategic Island and their security to a country that is willing puppet of USA. Japan is being brought back to the pre WWII war seeking philosophy

Good step forward.
Japan you need cyber and space done individually away from US capabilities, if you want to protect your citizens best. Waiting on America is a mistake that Japanese people will pay not Americans.

The thing is , Japan is a satellite state to the United States, just like UK. Therefore they need to go visit with mother to plan their own defense. Becouse the big bad china cannot be taken on by Japan alone, but everyone knows, they do not want to mess with the United States over in China, they would get it handed to them.
My Advice to Japan, Send JDF to take back your Islands from Russia, there is absolutely nothing Russia can do about it, because if they tried, big bad America would take care of them. Plus their conventional forces and navy are weak and cannot survive a JDF assault.

No.
Yes, that sounds like a smart idea, guide Japan to the final slaughter house.
