Yubaru,

And who is to say that they dont exist? There is no proof to say that those "superstitions" are not reality!

No proof to say that they do either. It's just the genuine fear and panic is what gets to me in Japan. Not so much that they believe in ghosts.

But If something weird happens to Mr. Kishida, I might throw a few extra 5 yens at the shrine from now on.

I recall a famous Governor of California who shunned the official mansion. Instead he rented a one room apartment across the street from the Capitol and walked to work.

Right, I mean ghosts are such a uniquely Japanese thing, never heard anyone outside of Japan mention them before.

Not quite sure to take this sarcastically or not, seeing as how you refer to the "uniqueness" of Japan

"How will he ”cherish” his family if he is in that residence or another while his wife is still in another residence?"

Isn't that the Japanese way? Send salaryman to opposite end of the country to live a 1k dorm room and eat cup ramen in his stained underpants and vest while his wife and kids get on with their life in the family home?

How will he ”cherish” his family if he is in that residence or another while his wife is still in another residence? Just being vague…?

He should move to Saitama and take the train for an hour every morning. Be a man of the people.

The relocation cut his commuting time from the three minutes

So, it cut his commuting time how many seconds? Lol. That is a funny statement.

Japanese people believe in weird superstitions.

Really? Ghosts?

I think you will find members of every ethnic group under the Sun who hold that belief. My Chinese born engineer wife is adamant ghosts exist. I roll my eyes. It is a belief as old as Man.

Some opposition lawmakers had criticized previous Liberal Democratic Party prime ministers for not living in the official residence, which costs the taxpayer 160 million yen ($1.4 million) per year to maintain.

How much now?

$1.4 M for what?

Are they rebuilding rooms every month?

Just knock it down, build a new 1LDK and then it doesn't have to be constantly maintained for at least 10 years or so. I'm sure it'll cost a lot less................OH.....I get it.

It "TAKES $1.4 M" per year. wink wink. I get it guys.

I see, I guess you gotta fund the kyabakuras some how.

Will his wife be sleeping there

Finally a pm that actually live in the building. It would really be a waste not to use a building that was build and maintained for the pm.

Kotei 公邸 is a well-designed and historical building. I would like to see around and inside it if a tour is arranged.

Koizumi, before moving in, reportedly arranged for a Shinto priest to perform an exorcism.

You won't believe it until it happens to you.
