If the water is safe why have they all got protective gear on?

The very fact that all are wearing masks shows just how ‘not’ under control the whole situation is

Yeh vows safety just like TEPCO did then proceeded not to raise the tsunami safety wall due to high costs...what is the cost of safety and would TEPCO and Japan be in a better if they were forced to follow safety recommendations regardless of costs!?

If it is so safe, what's with the masks?

Standard procedure:

Charming costume and helmet.

If Russia, China, India, The U.S. and many more are releasing their waste and or radioactive water into the ocean as claimed by many then the sea food we are consuming should be turning us into ZOMBIES by now.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

We are all now at the mercy of TEPCO, it's stock holders and the LDP. All we can do is sit, wait and watch hoping it will all go well over the next 40 years assuming we will be around, our children and grandchildren will never forgive us if this release turn into a disaster.

isabelle: "On the "wined and dined" point: a team of international experts (including from the most vocal nation, China) have approved the plan. Do you think every expert involved has been bought? If so, the "bought" Chinese experts didn't do a very good job of convincing their government."

I love how everyone who gets sensitive to criticism of the Japanese government immediately deflects to China (or "fascist Russia" like other posters say). You don't think China has other political reasons for making all imports undergo radiation testing? It's politics 101.

Roy Sophveason: "Should I tell you the institution that measures what's "showing up" at the release point? Can you guess it?"

Sure can! The aforementioned imperfect IAEA. As a weeb, you might not agree they are better than the JAEA and I will admit it's refreshing they let others in for a change instead of the usual "We'll do an internal investigation/report", but still.

"Having never met one, what would you know about Japanese? Or, for that matter, Americans?"

How do you presume to know so much about what is or is not in the water and then go and tell another poster whom they have or have not met?

IAEA do not have legal authority to stop a lawsuit

You can’t reason with uneducated people like smithinjapan. They have an inability to understand fairly simple physics and chemistry.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

The people nitpicking the work uniforms have no real argument.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Different parts of the site according to radiation levels have different protective clothing requirements.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Gloves and face masks, that picture screams safety, they should change their PR team ...

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Stop playing GOD you’re vowing isn’t making that water any less contaminated than it is.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

He vows it safe. Okay. Let him prove it. Him and his family and government can go swim eat and enjoy life there as they inject the Pacific Ocean with their supposed safe release. Prove it.

Don't know what all the fuss is about! Kishida says it's going to be OK, so of course, it will be! (sarcasm)

And we all know that the IAEA, after being wined and dined and showed only to good, are never and have never been wrong.

On the "wined and dined" point: a team of international experts (including from the most vocal nation, China) have approved the plan. Do you think every expert involved has been bought? If so, the "bought" Chinese experts didn't do a very good job of convincing their government.

On the "never and have never been wrong" point: this is the most studied water release in history, and it still passes the test. It will also be continuously and independently monitored by the IAEA. If you don't trust the IAEA that's up to you. Personally, I don't think there's anyone on the planet better qualified to assess this.

Let's get this release started. Less talk, more action please.

The water being released is perfectly safe.

Congratulations, Japan, on the soon-to-be biggest polluter of the oceans in history, and the most lethal

Nope. That'd be China or Fascist Russia.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Countries producing more tritium than Japan are France, England, America, Russia, China, South Korea, and others.

Japan still has a long way to go to become number one.

The United States, China, and Japan are the top three countries in terms of contributions to the IAEA.

It can't be helped if people say they can't trust us because China is in it.

If a Chinese or Korean enters the organization, it will definitely corrupt.

But the IAEA has issued the exact opposite view of the Chinese Communist Party.

China has regulated seafood from Japan even before its release, but there is absolutely no scientific basis for this.

I guess since they haven't started dumping yet my post was a bit in haste, but Japan will be #1 very shortly. And how much you want to bet that not only Tritium shows up in the immediate future after, and then the "How could we have known??" excuses?

There are many countries for that one and probably Russia is probably the number one polluter of the ocean by dumping highly radioactive waste into it. The Americans and French with their atomic and hydrogen bomb tests in the Pacific Ocean, contaminating the entire plant.

Selafield and La Hague had dumped more poluution.

Congratulations, Japan, on the soon-to-be biggest polluter of the oceans in history, and the most lethal. I hope and pray that all nations ban any and all marine products exported from Japan and sue for any and all increases in radiation on their shores and damage to their fisheries. Japan brought this on itself -- the company that built the plant knew full well they were doing so on a fault line, it has been proved. No one can say it could not have been prevented.
