Moderna's CEO's comments make me believe that the existing vaccine will not be effective against Omicron, and that the new variant vaccine will be less effective against other variants, which means that the state needs to vaccinate all people with three shots of the prior vaccine, and then with the new vaccine (of how ever many shots it requires). The problem is that making a new vaccine means that production and distribution of the existing vaccine (including boosters) needs to be reduced. So you need to stall Omicron until everyone gets the booster shot.

Well considering who controls him, that’s a big boast, let’s just see if it gets out of control and how long it takes to do something. Nice tiny fist. About the size of the collective LDP brains trust.

He needs a better understanding of virology.

Your understanding of virology is to not care about it.

I’ll quote you;

“You really don’t want to be on your deathbed looking back at your life and thinking , huh, that was a big chunk of time I wasted, those five years, I should have just not cared!”

Japan should seal the borders. Japanese passports only.

Headlines like this and Kishida's own comments are just downright irresponsible, intentionally stoking fear instead of encouraging level-headed analysis that uses facts instead of emotion.

The corporate media and governments cooked their own goose long ago, and only fools would take them seriously now.

Yeah. The “sun” has been shining on Japan for 2 years now!

And, Kishida likening himself to a young Jack Kennedy?

*- **"The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining," Kishida said, quoting U.S. President John F. Kennedy's 1962 State of the Union address.*

Moderna's CEO's comments make me believe that the existing vaccine will not be effective against Omicron

Indeed, they will be even more ineffective than against previous variants.

which means that the state needs to vaccinate all people with three shots of the prior vaccine, and then with the new vaccine (of how ever many shots it requires)

Or how about encouraging everyone to improve their health and immune system, give the vaccines to those vulnerable people who want it, and let this very mild Omicron variant go through the population, thus immunizing the population against multiple SARS-CoV-2 proteins.

This is a perfect excuse for the far right wing PM and his LDP/Nippon Kaigi members to fulfill their dream to revert the country to a semi Sakoku era.

Other first-world countries are rushing to administer the vaccine booster shots starting a soon as 3 months after completion of "full vaccination". Japan is holding off until people reach eight months after full vaccination. I suppose they're still studying the issue.

Kishida vows to 'prepare for worst' amid Omicron variant fears

With the burden being shouldered by the people, and the government doing nothing but make our living condition worse.

People had done their share of sacrifices. We are on a brink of exhaustion and collapse. Time for the government to do something without further burdening the general population.

It's not any more catchy than the previous versions, go check hopkins and view the African countries listed. All of then are trending down since begining of Nov. Death rates are also down. It's quite amazing the over-reation to this varient has been. The existing varients, esp. Delta, have been running rampet all over Europe and USA since September.

Remember this folks. Many of the world's governments are following an inept POTUS.

In my personal experience Japan (Kochi) people have intuitively, instinctively, followed, masks, hand dispensers, social distancing, vaccines. etc

I witness this every day.

This must be a reason behind the pandemic not proliferating.

Prepare for the worst, but we may shorten the time before a booster jab where possible.

Disgraceful approach.

So far J gov has been relatively saner than other developed countries: no vaccine mandates, no fenced facilities to lock up the unvaxxed, no separate supermarket entrances for the vaxxed and the unvaxxed. I hope Kishida will scrap the plan to introduce vaccine passports in Japan, which is complete nonsense given that more and more fully vaxxed are getting infected daily all over the world.

Moderna's CEO's comments make me believe that the existing vaccine will not be effective against Omicron

He did not produce any actual evidence, the current vaccines have a lot of room to be less effective and still result in protection against heavy disease, hospitalization, death, etc.

Headlines like this and Kishida's own comments are just downright irresponsible,

In comparison with exaggerating risks from vaccines and downplaying an infection that have killed millions even with very strong measures in place this is terribly mild.

Or how about encouraging everyone to improve their health and immune system, give the vaccines to those vulnerable people who want it, and let this very mild Omicron variant go through the population, thus immunizing the population against multiple SARS-CoV-2 proteins.

That is still a failing strategy according to the experts, not only because non neutralizing antibodies (against proteins different from the spike) are useless, but also because the vaccine is simply much safer than the natural infection precisely because the other proteins are made specifically to mess with the immune system. Since the experts consider impossible to protect any vulnerable population with widespread infection that would mean your suggestion according to the experts, not only because non neutralizing antibodies (against

He will prepare for the worst by hiding from the media and do nothing behind the scenes.

Japan, along with Australia and New Zealand, is a geographic isolate.

Close the borders to any and all except native citizens and registered aliens. Which presupposes actual quarantining of arrivals in government sanctioned facilities.

The latest posting by WHO, headlined that closing borders to travel is not effective with a caveat: geographically isolated countries aka Japan, can close the borders and such action is effective in preventing the spread of the latest variant.

Richard, Japanese infected are given a free pass, so your point is moot. But it’s totally foreigners fault. As it should be. Can’t be racist if the government guidelines deem it so.

Oh, the risks of the vaccines are real. And the vast majority of the millions that died from Covid19 did so because they did not receive certain early treatments that were intentionally forbidden in order to favor the distribution of the vaccines.

Seriously, are you OK? You keep on repeating the same response, bringing up "experts" and "consensus" without making much sense and without relating your comments to what you're responding to. I have never agreed with your posts, but recently .....

The experts of the world say you are wrong, and the useless treatment you keep peddling (ivermectin and HCQ) have not yet demonstrated any benefit for the patients, That Raoult is being accused of making up and falsifying data to push for HCQ by his own collaborators is not surprising seeing how everybody else got results that contradicted him.

Seriously, are you OK? You keep on repeating the same response, bringing up "experts" and "consensus" without making much sense and without relating your comments to what you're responding to.

Sorry that things so frequently escape your understanding but that do not make it less true, since the infamous Great Barrington declaration the experts of the world heavily criticized the failed attempt to push for something counter productive as if it was scientific when it actually was easily contradicted by evidence.

Or what, can you provide well respected medical and scientific institutions (Universities, Medical Journals, Health care organizations, etc.) that support you? or just people being funded by airlines to mislead others into making the pandemic worse for profit?

good this PM unlike Suga who have no clue is taking seriously action without hesitation that the type of leader we need.

but again this virus is wimpy not a threat I believe

"...the prime minister vowed to strengthen Japan's alliance with the United States, calling it the foundation for peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region..."

Invoking the USA as a foundation of peace and prosperity doesn't even register as irony. The USA is a dangerous menace to world peace, more so than the Roman Empire.

A Rand Foundation paper from several years ago plotted out increasing the USA's military presence in Japan, alongside re-arming Japan. The latest bizarre and fabulist narratives - China invading Taiwan - even further from reality, the Chinese invasion of Japan, is propaganda to justify changing the Constitution, unloading more of the cost of occupation by the USA onto Japan and increasing the US military presence in Japan.

China is an economic powerhouse. America is an empire in decline that is not going to bring prosperity to any but its billionaire, autocrats. Let alone is China interested in either of two island nations except as trading or business partner, even more so outlets for its factory produced goods. Manufacturing, assembly and distribution of products from Chinese factories represent numerous international concerns: AT&T, GE, Apple, Armour, Avon, Audi, Caterpillar, Coca-Cola, Compaq, Dell, Dannon, Estee Lauder, General Mills, Google, Gucci, Harley-Davidson, Hershey, Honda, Intel, IKES, IBM, John Deere, Motorola, Mattel, Mitsubishi, Nike, Nikon, Nestles, Panasonic, Pfizer, Proctor & Gamble, Revlon, Samsung, Sony, Starbuck's, Toshiba, Toyota, Tyson Foods, Walt Disney, Walgreen, Westinghouse, Whirlpool, Weyerhaeuser Company, Xerox.

As if, China and its corporate partners are going to deep-six its riches for an empty ploy - and invade Taiwan or Japan. Not going to happen. It is hyperbole for the machinations of right-wing, conservative politicians to militarize Japan and solidify power - for the USA it is a desperate game to dethrone the soon to be wealthiest and most economically powerful nation aka China. As for Kishida, he is acquiescing to his masters in Washington DC.
