Appears to be a PR and political opportunity to jockey himself for a possible PM run in 2018.
If Komeito Party wins, you'll see a complete reversal of Abe's defense and strategic alliance policies, and a appeasement position with NK and China. A Komeito PM win would send the wrong message.
