There is a book, it's old but might be helpful to J- Government it's called "How to win friends and Influence people" Might not understand the lack of cash payments but worth a shot!

Japan’s whaling fleet left port Tuesday for this season’s annual hunt in Antarctica, with Japan’s coast guard saying it would deploy extra security to protect it from anti-whaling activists.

Japan, is it worth to do this? The world is clearly against you. This is how "hatred" towards Japan is cultivated and you do not understand the consequence in the future. The cost is way too high.

globalwatcher,

The world is clearly against you.

Do you include most of Asia and Africa as well as the Norwegians, Icelanders in that?

This is how "hatred" towards Japan is cultivated and you do not understand the consequence in the future.

On the contrary, the anti-whaling people need to be educated to have respect for cultural diversity and international laws and agreements. That is how we can rid the world of hatred.

My rough count has 13+ (culturally insensitive) countries most of whom border the region in question urging a halt to this "research ", perhaps it's the Japanese who need to be more sensitive to others cultures?

Ha, ha, ha. The J gov does not even listen or respects it's own peoples views and opinions, so what makes anyone think that they will listen to any outsiders... You are not Japanese so you don't understand (is the standard and very annoying response most non-Japanese get when ever asking basic questions)...

Commercial whaling has been banned worldwide since 1986, but Japan justifies its hunts as scientific research

I agreed. What research does Japan has to do? Unless they provide us all findings to the world, this claim is VOID..

Research whaling... WTF!

The only research being conducted on the whales is recipes. It is about time Japan admitted to it's blatant lies and corruption.

If you read the IWC scientific committee's latest report you'll see that biological data from Japan's research is being used in the work of the committee.

It's not reported widely in the media, that doesn't mean that there is no research.

Wait for the result of the ICJ case Australia has brought against Japan for confirmation of this.

@davidinjapan oh, you mean other economic powerhouse nations such as the Faroe Islands & St. Vincent & the Grenadines support Japan's whaling activities? Japan, Iceland & Norway are the only nations to conduct full-scale commercial whaling, with Japan being the only one to do so in international waters (albeit under the guise of "research) and certainly the only relevant industrialized nation to conduct whale hunts. That is why every other politically & economically relevant country views Japan as such a pariah.

globalwatcher, am agreeing with you on this issue and yes Japans arrogance is showing. Tokyo government only thinks about themselves. So adding contaminated whale meat to radioactive food is sauce just more proof. I am going to have and give this more thought.

Latin American members of the International Whaling Commission urged Japan on Thursday to stop “scientific” >whaling in Antarctic waters and to respect sanctuaries.

Being members of the IWC they are obviously aware that it is the IWCs regulations under Article 8 that allows Scientific permit whaling and allows it to be exempt from sanctuaries. So why are they urging a country that is abidinbg by the regulations. Shouldn't they be spending theirtime anmd efforts to change the regulations? Or does that make too much sense?

The countries stated “their firmest rejection” of plans to hunt whales, “including endangered species, in the >Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary,” a statement read.

So what is the point of "rejecting" the plans that are in accordance with the IWC regulations and are conducted in international waters? How does that save any whales?

So now there are another 11 countries that have requested that the Japanese stop whaling activities in the Southern ocean, this is 11 on top of the other nations Australia, New Zealand, US, SA, UK, to name a few. Yet we still hear words like imperialistic or illinformed or hatred aimed at the Australians for their stance. How can this be when there are now so many countries that are against the Japanese actions. How can all these nations who have a vested interest in the southern ocean because many bored the region be classed as imperialistic. When the definition of imperialistic is "The policy of extending a nation's authority by territorial acquisition or by the establishment of economic and political hegemony over other nations.". Now given that Japan a single country is forcing its will on so many nations who then is being imperialistic in their approch.
