Takigawa, 41, told reporters at the prime minister's office she is pregnant.

I'd say 80-90% of the marriages I've been to in this country follow in that order. More power to them I guess, hope they're happy.

Get pregnant, get married, get divorced. Quite common in Japan.

Another political dynasty in the making.  With celeb baby on the way already.

Shotgun wedding!

Good luck to the happy couple. Nice to see a half Japanese marrying a future prime minister and nobody seems to care. Japan is ever so slowly diversifying....

this is the kind of new generation couple that Japan needs to have at the helm.

No, it’s time Japan ditched the family business approach to politics. That would be a move forward and a generational shift.

Isnt this the wrong Koizumi?

Get pregnant, get married, get divorced. Quite common in Japan.

[ On Wednesday they visited the current Japanese leader, Shinzo Abe, at his office to inform him of the news. ]

Well wonderful just what we need another Abe follower.

Ahhhh..... did you know that "shotgun wedding" actually was taken from Japan? Yes... its true... Katana Kekkon, existed well before shotgun.

"I can escape the battlefield that is politics."

He must be having a laugh, right?

In Japan there is no 'battlefield'........everything is a given to the 'Silver-spooned' brigade.

half Japanese

What does this even mean? How is it measurable?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Mixed is the more appealing term, I agree but in Japanese minds, she isnt 100% Japanese so she is a halfu.

Very beautiful woman. Koizumi scored himself a halfu.

Perfect marriage. Politicians and comedians are path toward a leadership, in Japan, because all you have to deliver is jokes.

On Wednesday they visited the current Japanese leader, Shinzo Abe, at his office to inform him of the news.

I guess they received the royal benediction, then.

Good for them, congrats.

By the way the elder Koizumi offered apologies to the Chinese people near the Marco Polo bridge and visited a museum detailing war dead in fight against Japan, nearly 20 years ago. Good man he is.

She is half French. I wonder how Koizumi's supporters are reacting to that.

Is Japan ready for a Hafu first lady sometime in the future?

@gokai_wo_maneku

She is half French. I wonder how Koizumi's supporters are reacting to that.

Koizumi clan represents the Satsuma faction, aka the home base of the Imperial Japanese Navy, which historically has been more open-minded than the Choshu faction represented by Abe clan.

So it won't be a problem with the Koizumi supporters. Can't think of Abe doing the same though, if Abe san had children which he doesn't.

The former premier, who is divorced, welcomed the marriage, the younger Koizumi told reporters, saying he was advised that he "should marry at least once."

Ha ha. "At least once"

There is no such thing as half a person. It's two. Two races, two languages, two culture. Both to be celebrated. Wishing them the best.

Your in Japan, thats how it is. and the sad thing is, most "halfu" like the term

I hope Oleaginous Koizumi does a better job at parenting than his deadbeat dad, who ran away from his responsibilities and has never even seen one of his sons.

Not surprising that he chose an intelligent and respectable tv personality. Congratulations! Good for them.
