It it natural for lawmakers, who are chosen by voters, to take responsibility firmly for their words and actions."

Only when you are obviously low on the totem pole. The higher you get the more protection you are afforded , based upon what you do for the party.

Kono hage!!!!!

A screaming LDP harridan physically attacking an employee. That just about says it all really...

10 ( +12 / -2 )

she yelled at him and struck him several times on the head and face.

No offense, but isn't that considered comedy on Japanese TV?

Also, Suga says wise things such as taking responsibility and being judged by your actions that don't seem to apply to Abe; does Abe know Suga is making such threatening remarks?

Japan is finally catching up with the world standard having a woman like her "a woman Hitler."

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

Toyota has been hospitalized due to her unstable mental condition, Hakubun Shimomura, executive acting secretary general of the LDP, said.

No reason to refer to the woman as Hitler, horrible baba or harridan--the woman's clearly ill and is seeking treatment. I hate the LDP like the next guy but a bit of empathy folks.

He should have stopped the car and slapped her back.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

This goes way beyond being stressed and a once off thing.

No sympathy here, she should have sought help way earlier.

Saitama never disappoints.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

There is something wrong and trouble with this excuse of a woman.

He should have stopped the car and slapped her back.

I wouldn't blame him if he did.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

trouble - troubling

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

It it natural for lawmakers, who are chosen by voters, to take responsibility firmly for their words and actions.

Really? What about Abe? When is HE going to take responsibility firmly for HIS words and actions??

1 ( +5 / -4 )

I clicked on the link. The person looks evil. In fact, they both look evil.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

I was so scared when I heard the voice recorder. Poor man! I thought she must be a yakuza or a wacko. LDP surely has all kinds of people. I can't wait to know the result of 7/2 Tokyo election.

Aly.

When did the Voters chose Abe?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Saw this on the news last night. She's a bit of a psycho!

She blamed the guy for ruining her image but she has done a fine job of that herself.

She also threatened physical violence against the man's daughter. I hope she gets busted but I suspect she won't.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

"It it natural for lawmakers, who are chosen by voters, to take responsibility firmly for their words and actions."

Oh, REALLY, Suga? The way Abe has taken responsibility for the irrefutible evidence on collision with buddies and school makers? On his promises to answer questions and be open to the public? The lies these guys tell are so blatantly so that it is almost embarrassing even as a foreigner living here to try and explain to people who ask why and how they can still be in power.

As for this woman, fleeing to a mental hospitable is not action for her responsibility, nor is resigning because she was caught after denials and might damage the party's rep ahead of elections. She also needs to be stripped of her credentials and charged with assault.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

And why is it no surprise where she's from?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

If that had been any of us we would be in jail and facing deportation.

She will get a new government job out of this.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

He should have stopped the car and slapped her back.

Dunno about that but a 55yo man should know how to stand up for himself, boss or not. This dragon looks/sounds more like a mama san than a politician to me, although politics and anger management/bullying issues seem to go hand in hand (and not only in Japan).

Hope her kids and hubby weren't on the receiving end of her temper tantrums.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

If anyone (preferably foreign born) wishes to conduct a social experiment: try doing this with a random taxi driver and see how it plays out. You might have to resign from your local fitness center, language club, cooking circle, and will likely need to bow past 45 degrees whilst apologizing, but do rest assured you will not be questioned by the police, nor interrogated, and most certainly will not be deported. Please do wait for six months to pass, at which time you will be reinstated to your previous groups, albeit with different titles.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

If Ms Toyota is mentally ill she should resign her seat, not just leave the LDP.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

He should have stopped the car and slapped her back.

Can't believe I read this. Crazy or not, how can there be any justification for hitting a woman...?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

They call her the "Pink Monster" for a reason.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Scandal has plagued several of the LDP lawmakers...

And yet they are so quick to request a resignation when a woman is to blame. They probably did their best to unbalance her anyway.

How about Abe leading by example here and resigning, too.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

He should've drove straight to the police station and reported her. I think the media would've had more of a field day. The way she yelled at him and hearing his voice apologizing had hit me right in the feels.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, who is also an LDP lower house member, told a press conference, "It it natural for lawmakers, who are chosen by voters, to take responsibility firmly for their words and actions."

"Except for those at that top", he conveniently forgot to add!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Right if a guy did the same thing you would be screaming assault too right. You think she is mentally ill? Just because the article has that written in it, does not make it so. All sorts of famous people and politicians pull that excuse out when they dont get what they want and pitch a fit.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

"Can't believe I read this. Crazy or not, how can there be any justification for hitting a woman."

To defend yourself.

I didn't say she's not guilty of assault. But I am giving her the benefit of the doubt at least until she's been assessed by medical professionals. Based on the audio and virtually every picture I've seen of her, she sure seems off her nut. If a guy did the same thing and there were clear indications that he's sick, I'd feel the same way. That's why civilized countries take a criminal's mental condition into consideration.

Or perhaps I should join the JT vengeance brigade--no presumption of innocence, no trial necessary, quick and brutal punishment. Posted online, ideally, you know like IS. Someone upthread said he should have hit her back. Sweet, a thread with 90%+ men talking about punishing women for their sins--good times.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

To defend yourself.

LOL. Google Joe Mixon or Ray Rice and see how they defended themselves. You people are amazing.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

If there was a bit less hitting people around the head on Japanese TV drama and comedy shows, maybe there would be a bit less of it in real life.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Amen to that!

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

"Can't believe I read this. Crazy or not, how can there be any justification for hitting a woman."

is this guy armless? Sounds like a rope a dope. Don't have to hit back but could have blocked the assault, unless he's into that sort of thing.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Toyota, a 42-year-old former government bureaucrat, was elected from the No. 4 district in Saitama Prefecture

I'll just let that sit here

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

He should have stopped the car and slapped her back.

Recording her and releasing the audio was the best possible slap back! She is ruined - as well she should be. Thank you, Mr. Secretary! Job well done!

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Too much bad behavior goes on for too long in Japan because people enable it.

This woman deserved a slap a long time ago. Then maybe her behavior wouldn't have reached this level of crazy.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Heard a couple different clips of audio on the news yesterday. Another was her chanting a mocking refrain over and over. Ugh. She's getting publicity for it but it's not unheard of in a lot of boss/subordinate situations. Japanese husband once had a boss like her, quit out of under him because ain't nobody got time for that!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@smithinjapan

"And why is it no surprise where she's from"

FYI ...she is from Chiba!

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

So a woman assumes a man and she quits the party and Abe supports it. Man screan insults at a woman to get married and have a kid and Abe says nothing. A journalist who writes supportive books about Abe supposedly rapes a woman and Abe tries to cover up the case and get it dismissed. Gee, let these women shine.

This woman should quit but so should all of the other scum.

Assaults

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Toyota has been hospitalized due to her unstable mental condition

Why do they always run and take refuge in a hospital ?

She is a bad case send her to a sanatorium.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Dear god, that audio is horrifying. Amazed that guy could take such ridiculous abuse

4 ( +4 / -0 )

He should report the assault to the police.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Why do they always run and take refuge in a hospital ?

It often means a light sentence and public sympathy.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I am so glad she's been exposed. There are many like her in the government, enterprises and universities.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Aly.

When did the Voters chose Abe?

Good point. He's just really a defacto ruler due to the lack of opposition. Shows Japan's true democracy

0 ( +1 / -1 )

There is no public election for PM, the ruling party holds an internal election.

Voters have no say in the matter.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

LDP needs to learn secretaries are

0 ( +0 / -0 )

not chauffeurs.  No wonder Japanese women can't get jobs.  LDP use men for secretaries

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The headline of article sounded like olden time Napanese

1 ( +1 / -0 )

There is no public election for PM, the ruling party holds an internal election.

Voters have no say in the matter.

But the public does elect the ruling party so in this case they ARE voting for the PM. When you cast your vote for the LDP you KNOW you are casting your vote for Abe.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

And that is ecactly why in my country you elect PM and ruling separate.

Often they come from different camps, ruling party - 4yrs. PM - 6yrs.

Now koike would have no chance of becoming PM had she remained in the LDP.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And that is ecactly why in my country you elect PM and ruling separate.

That's a much better system than what we have here. Where is your country? If you don't mind me asking?

Now koike would have no chance of becoming PM had she remained in the LDP.

Koike would have no chance of becoming ANYTHING had she remained in the LDP. This is a old boys' club

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

It was great that the staff member recorded this disgusting and pathetic excuse of a human being and the vile comments made. I hope it inspires others to do the same and stand up to harassment making sure that the perpetrators are permanently removed from public life. I hope the lawmaker is prosecuted and severely punished under the law but being Japan, with such useless and inept people running the judicial system, regretfully this will probably not be the case. My heart goes out to her children. No amount of pity or support will save them from having such a low life as a mother. It breaks my heart to think of the endless humiliation and bullying they will endure at school.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Sums it up for Politicians ... heads stuck up their own A5535 and without a care for the rest of the population - no wonder they don't allow non-Japanese Passport holders to vote, they'd soon be revealed for what they are.

Utter Contempt!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@borscht

As for the likening of this towards Japanese TV humour - well that does go a bit too far. Does that really make it okay for your Boss to verbally abuse you, and beat you ? You sound a bit like a German/Afrikana slave master there.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Headline of the article....   Only in Japan boss is a woman and secretary is a man.  I misunderstood sexual harassment story.
