"...under the government's responsibility," Japanese governments have already demonstrated that they are unable to take any responsibility with nuclear. The only responsible attitude is to stop DEFINITIVELY ALL nuclear power plants.

As always, when trying to understand what a politician is doing, check first who is paying how much money to do what. Then the rest is easy to understand.

As usual, they aren't listening to what the public wants.

tmarie they do hear the people and the people want them restarted. I looked at the numbers again and it is in the mili rems for fukushima. After a ground level one megaton explosion the dose is 3000 rems. All people would be dead within 24 hours. The air pollution caused by running the fossil plants kill hundreds of thousands throughout the world.

So sayeth the Shepard so sayeth the flock, next they will change the countries name to lemming land.

tmarie; after a short discussion the public has decided that economic suicide wasn't a productive direction to take for the country.

Outstanding Japanese government debts hit a record 991.6 trillion yen at the end of fiscal 2012.
And they want to reduce corporate taxes? Unbelievable.

"The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will promise in its policy platform to bring back nuclear reactors to service"
please provide a time frame or what year are we talking about so I can make plans to get out of dodge...
many thanks..

Zichi, Thanks for your informative comments (I have given you about 50 "thumbs up" this year).
"once their safety is confirmed..." Who is doing the confirming? I will say again, at least some of these reactors should never be started up again.

Further proof, as if we here in Japan need more, that people cannot handle nuclear power responsibly. Therefore, it is NOT SAFE. Ergo: no npp should be restarted. But, as I just stated, people (LDP in particular, and Abe) cannot handle the correct procedures for a safe npp, they will start them up and we can just simply wait for the next f'in catastophe. It is inevitable.

Its a question of time, not if or when, before another major nuclear disaster hit Japan, triggered by a big earthquake. Abenomics on nuclear power is not prudent.

zichi my main point is an atomic war is much worse. As for your numbers 5 rems per year and yes I understand it is 10 times what the government thinks. My point is for those that want to use atomic weapons. Also to show how small Fukushima is in comparison. Also when above ground testing was done many Americans received 20 to 50 rems within a very short time. How many people died in Fukushima? How many people die in vehicle accidents? How many people die from air pollution per year?
