LDP means liberal economy. Japanese parties are conservative and more conservative. The Japanese people are impatient with the economy, no political party can jump start a single economy in a global economy during a global recession.

LDP says that the DPJ can't be trusted with the economy that the LDP screwed up??? What a joke!!! DPJ wants to help families and the LDP doesn't??? Who will win this election???

Frankly speaking, a change is exactly what is needed. Brings in a younger generation and re-affirms Article 9

Gee...how dare we have change.

The Gomiuri Shimbun made a similar case yesterday, but with a tad less 'fear of the unknown' in their editorial.

If DPJ comes to power, that will be a whole new change for japan.

I admire your optimism

If DPJ comes to power, that will be a whole new change for japan.

Change is good,LDP will be the opposition and DPJ will add a new change to systems in japan. New change in systems, will do good.

Change is good.

Tomorrow in the news: If you vote other than LDP, Godzilla will come and kick your condo building!

What's with all these Democrat parties!? And worse, a LIBERAL democrat party!? What Japan really needs is a staunchly conservative and stubbornly static party resistant to all change. Get rid of these world-peace "love conquers all" hippies already!

i like throwing rocks at the sound trucks from my roof

Well the LDP is lucky I am not a citizen yet I would be voting against the scumballs. I would be going the Japanese Communist Party. The wife who is Japanese is NOT voting for the LDP as they have done NOTHING to better Japanese and Gaikokujin relationships here in Japan.

"warned" ?? is this a typically dumb and incorrect translation or is the ldp so desperate that they're now issuing threats ?

Seems to me this election will have younger men who believe in Article 9 and this is really something I can agree with - it will be such a nice CHANGE.

The LDP has seriously lost the plot on this one. Arguing against change when change is required just shows how removed these politicians are from the reality of situation. Indeed, if the LDP really want to understand and appreciate the challenges faced by ordinary citizens, instead of scoffing down dinner at high-end eateries (like one Toxic Taro), they should voluntarily resign and cue up like all the down-casts (non-humans) you see down the railway station or outside "Hello Work". Hey, but don't get me started about all these hereditary politicians.

LDP begs voters not to get rid of them and give anyone else a chance.

“Do you want conservatism? Or do you want new socialism for Japan?” she said.

Said as if Japan isn't already a socialist country... national socilaism is still socialism after all.

governed their nation for most of the post-World War II era

All the more reason for a change.

the lawmakers acknowledged that the Liberal Democrats have squandered their public support, and must make a new start.

Absolutely correct. So they must. During the long spell they will now have in opposition.

By the way. Shouldn't you be referring to these people as 'former lawmakers' now, or 'candidates'? Now that the Diet has risen they are no longer in a law-making role and once the voters are done many will no longer have a career in politics.

Change! Yes we can!

FEAR. Now that is a good tactic. Japanese love change and love to be in fear.

Thanks for the correction Smithinjapan.

several prominent ruling party lawmakers told a news conference Wednesday the opposition Democratic Party of Japan is inexperienced and cannot be trusted with control of the world’s second-largest economy.

Because we're doing such a great job of it! Any way aren't most of the DPJ guys ex-LDP these days?

Please voter san don't make me unemployed like I have you - how would I spend my free time? I can only spend so much of the money I have grabbed from you over the last 50 years there simply isn't time to spend the rest!

tkoind: technically, it's an abbreviation, not an acronym, although admittedly the word is so misused now that the definition is changing. :)

Agree with all you say, though.

"Do you want conservatism, or do you want new socialism in Japan?"

I wish these losers would stop OBVIOUSLY stealing the absolutely pathetic scare tactics of the Republican Party (US). The only problem is that the Japanese fall for this kind of thing almost as badly as the uneducated Americans who do so.

NOTHING is going to change under the DPJ when they win, save the title of the party. And as the article has stated, and everyone knows, a good number of politicians/law makers from the LDP will defect to the DPJ, making things even MORE the same.

The funniest are lines like, 'warning voters against voting for change', as though admitting how badly the LDP have run things for 50 years. Japanese politics truly are pathetic.

the LDP was also trying to lure a famous former-comedian to run in the election.

Let's face it, the DPJ is the LDP with a different acronym when it comes to how invested they are in the status quo. A change of party is more symbolic than factual. And neither party are clearly able to address the problems facing Japan.

What is important here is change. Japan must break the cycle of rule that has kept it back for so long. Losses by the LDP may force them to reinvent themselves to be ready to pitch again once the DPJ inevitably fails to make anything better.

What I hope for is that the Japanese people will become frustrated with both key parties and start to form new parties led by people from the private sector who really wish to see substantial change. Or a demand by the people for more direct represenatative government.

Sadly I think what really faces Japan is a lot of years of hardship.

"senior ruling party lawmakers warned voters Wednesday they should not abandon the party that has governed their nation for most of the post-World War II era" what is this?WARNED VOTERS.what ever happened to democrocy? "several prominent ruling party lawmakers told a news conference Wednesday the opposition Democratic Party of Japan is inexperienced and cannot be trusted with control of the world’s second-largest economy" Don't you think the voters should decide, because the current government is an embarrassment to the Japanese people. Worldwide, politicians are letting their voters down, they only think of themselves, something that reflects todays society. Politics need ovehauling worldwide, and to stop favouring big business and there own political futures. Housewives(Family finance managers)could do a better job. Politicians need to spend more time on the street ,listening to what people have to say, pensioners, sick, unemployed, mothers with young children, students, because these are the people they are failing.

"LDP warns voters against change in Aug 30 election"

They've got a valid point. If the other party gets to form a new government, we'll have to bribe them from scratch. But the notion of any "change" resulting from a switch of political parties is absurd. The winner of the election will remain the vested interests who expect the recipients of their largesse to legislate to their advantage. And we can count on the Supreme Court to rubber stamp it with decisions designed to safeguard privileges for those in power over the rights of upstart individuals who are naive enough to try to struggle against the system.
