A match made in the lower pits of late stage capitalist hell.
Two oligarchs, incompetent, foul-mouthed , cognitively challenged who rose to the top through privilege and incompetence.
Family legacies of wealth built up through slave labor and racist gentrification.
If they do have their little meet and greet, the picture could well serve as an enduring symbol of Neo-liberal democratic kleptocracy.

Awesome...

The more these idiots go and bend the knee to Trump the more credibility they give him, even though they are really afraid of him and wish that Biden would win again. They are just covering there asses, but it is helping Don the Con.

So China calling Japan two faced yesterday wasn't so far fetched was it?
OssanAmerica
I don't see Trump having the time between trials for such a visit. Unless Aso is going to lend him money.
dagon
You may have hit the nail on the head Ossan.
And we all know how transparent Trump and the LDP are about declaring their campaign contributions riiight?
N. Knight
While clearly (to any rational adult) Trump is a deranged narcissistic rapist lunatic, it is common practise around the world for ruling party members form many countries to meet with opposition leaders in other countries, especially in the year before a general election.
In this case these two odious populist lunatics meeting is particularly bile inducing.
Jimizo
Sharp analysis.
Not too many are prepared to lend Trump money.
Aso is loaded and not the sharpest knife on the drawer.

Ask does a half-decent job of making Trump look like the good guy! Says a lot!

Another red tsunami, how'd that prediction go? Or are the cultists claiming those elections were 'rigged' too?
bass4funk
How so?? More delusional leftist talking points?
Two entirely different people, couldn’t be more polar opposites with the exception that both speak their minds, one is a successful businessman and the other a career politician.
Which is no different than any society in history, and that will never go away, ever.
Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

I was immensely pleased that Liz Truss announced her support for Trump recently. If that isn't the political kiss of death, I don't know what is.

Aso is a style leader....
He obviously wants a set of autographed Trump gold sneakers to go with his Aussie hat and silver suit..
Kasumigaseki gangsta-style...
Both are also deep into senility...Aso better brush up on his "Ding, Bam, Boom, Bing" speak if he wants to communicate with Dementia-Don...
u_s__reamer
Aso's incapable of thinking ahead to November when his hero will be untouchable (locked up in a VIP cell). Imagination is, as we all have learned, the possession of very few politicians.
Jimizo
Aso is very interested in WW2. He has an unnerving habit of referencing Nazis.
Trump on the other hand thinks WW2 hasn’t started yet.
Could be an interesting conversation.

Trump won't like you, Taro, unless you can do something for him. And even then probably not. If you just act the sycophant he will despise you as much as he despises his sycophantic voters.
bass4funk
Hmmm…
Utter leftist emotional lunacy.
Who knows.
Just the illegal ones.

I know where Trump can be found these days.

I guess people who have been despised all their lives are attracted to Trump though. The contempt he shows towards them and their like feels familiar to them yet somehow they can't quite put their finger on just what it is. They may even believe it is real concern or friendship. He hates everybody, but especially the people who seem to like him. It's a kind of win-win: Trump gets people around him he despises and the people who are attracted to him unconsciously want to feel despised. I think Aso is probably so damaged that he is a perfect Trump sycophant.
nonu6976
Maybe Aso can drop him off and pick him up from the court house each day.
He can could even bring Trump a morning "cofeffe" so he stops dozing off in court.
stickman1760
I guess they can exchange tips on hair dye, bronzer, how to pass the time in jail

Stormy...
Translation: Truth...
The former US president and 2024 candidate Donald Trump was mocked on social media after he said President Joe Biden lead the country into "World War II".

Moron probably doesn't even know about the trial.
And he thinks Trump would actually remember him?
Did he give Trump money in the past?
What's the point of Aso going to New York anyway?
Or, I should say, what is he pretending he's going to do?
Stewart Gale
How can there be a possibility of Donald Trump becoming president of the USA again?
I completely despair of America that this can even be a possibility.
It’s completely unfathomable to me.
Ricky Kaminski13
Agree. So it’s a short story and an article written to create a certain hip-flex reaction and effect with a certain demographic and target audience. Linking the Aso with the T man.
JT, love your work.
shogun36
wait, what?
He told Reuters he's going to NY, but it should be done anonymously?
And, why would it be a secret? No one cares what he does. I guess he's just trying to hide that he is about to waste a LOT of tax funds for absolutely no reason, other than a free trip to NY.
Get rid of this clown already.
bass4funk
More like 2010, 2012, 20216
He will, he can go after the trials in the evening or as soon as he's finished.
Because half the country over 69% think the country is going in the wrong direction.
We say the same about the last 4 years, but here we are.
Jimizo
He’s a perfect example of how being born into money and having connections can see you elevated way above your abilities in politics.
My home country ( the UK ) suffers from this nonsense too.
Deference to these types is still a real problem.
oyatoi
In an idealistic summation of the meaning of politics, utilizing the latent power of the group to achieve generally commendable ends would be the template J politicians subscribe to. In Trump, they see something of a mirror reflection of themselves. While America’s ailments are legion, the antidote to its despair has been there all along, in the untapped potential of its people. As cynical and expedient as Aso’s jockeying for preferment is, we can recognize where it’s coming from.

It's truly mind-boggling.

I always think it is funny when he is referred to as "former Prime Minister" since, although correct, he was only Prime Minister less than half a year, and during that time I remember him setting the record for the lowest ever approval rating with 4%.
Tim Sullivan
Elections are becoming increasingly problematic these days -- I think fascism is the way to go.
Tim Sullivan
I think they will get on very well if they do manage to arrange a meeting. Aso should have another go at being PM, he's a good guy.
GBR48
quote: Or a house for the elderly.
Unfortunately, that is a good description of the White House. And most parliaments. Most politicians are elderly, have a comprehensively obsolete mindset and are still fighting battles that ended decades ago. That may explain why we are all suffering from lousy government and the global economy is going down the pan.
Yrral
Trump is in trouble because of his delusional beliefs, this should make anyone steer clear of this felon magnet , thousand of people lives have been ruined by their association with Trump

Aso realizes that Joe is a lost cause:

I'm looking forward to a second Trump term. It won't be boring!
bass4funk
The prosecution might eat them.
That he wants to meet with Trump and not Biden or because half of the country find it mind boggling that people would even want to vote for Biden again???
proxy
This is a great approach from Japan. Having a former PM meet with the person who will likely be the next American president to ensure positive relations in the future. It would have been inappropriate for Kishida to have met Trump but not Aso. This is a wise course.

Simon Foston
proxyToday 11:52 pm JST
Not really. There's no indication in the article that it's anything more than some private initiative. It doesn't even say what Aso might be going to New York for - if it's anything official why's he not going to Washington DC?

I doubt Aso is the sort to bother about that. This is all from anonymous sources so for all anyone knows he's made up his mind to go and get the tacit approval later.
opheliajadefeldt
I know very little about this Trump lover, but may be that is all I need to know, but I do know he is worth about $5 billion in USA money, so he could if so wished drop Trump a dollar or 2 here and there. More interesting tho , how can an ex PM amass that sort of money and where from?
