Ministers disagree on corporate tax cut to offset sales tax rise

Yeah, take from the poor and give to the rich! Shouldn't it be the other way around? The middle and lower classes get tax increases and the upper class get tax breaks. Way to go Japan! You voted for these mullets!

one problem is the way the system is set up. The more any country moves toward a welfare state the worse things become. The more business is involved with politics the worse things become. What Japan needs to stop all of the buddy buddy system where you pay back those who help you get elected. Leaders should be about what is the best for the people of the country and not special interests. I am for the lowering of corporate tax as that will be one less tax that the consumers pay. Believe it or not the corporations do not pay the corporate tax, you pay it with every purchase that you make. The increase in sales tax will only destroy any economic gains that have supposedly been made. While they say that the economy is improving, I have yet to see it. Prices are rising while wages are stagnate, Unemployment figures only reflect those who are actively looking. People try to keep their dead relatives in closets to collect their pension because they do not have work and would not have income if their parents pension was taken away. The economy is a mess and will get worse with the current policies.

You do know that only like 30% of companies in Japan pay any corporate tax, right? It's largely symbolic. My company is one of the few to pay taxes in our city.

How about exempting food and medicine from this sales tax.

That anybody has the gall to even propose this is jaw-dropping. These people just do whatever they want and no accountability, no shame.

I can just about accept the new sales tax as a necessity, but dropping the corporate tax at the same time sounds like a filthy plan to benefit the rich at the expense of the poor.

In fact, AFAIK some economists suggest that one big reason Japan is in such a debt crisis to begin with is because they have been reducing the progressive tax rates on the rich from something like 80% (when everything is added) down to 50% - and the rise in sales tax could not compensate for this loss. Let's not be making this mistake again.

Since the first sales tax was imposed, it has NOT positively affected the debt in the least. What HAS negatively affected the debt are: ・social welfare programs ・ public construction projects ・corporate welfare/various subsidies

Webster, in arguing the case, said: An unlimited power to tax involves, necessarily, a power to destroy, 17 U.S. 327 .In his decision, Chief Justice Marshall said: That the power of taxing it [the bank] by the States may be exercised so as to destroy it, is too obvious to be denied , and

・That the power to tax involves the power to destroy [is] not to be denied . ・

The solution isn't in increasing taxes on citizens but in removing the destructive power from the pols.
