Good luck with that. Tokyo has long acquiesced to whatever junta is in power in Myanmar for three reasons: Myanmar is rich in natural resources; Japan has a long history there; and no other country will touch it (except China). Go ahead and sell your soul for mana; you won't be the first.

I hope he gets a chance of staying in Japan even if it is only temporarily, but this will also going to affect all other people that leave Myanmar in the future. Unless the situation improves it may mean that people will lose opportunities if the government of Myanmar think they are likely to ask for asylum in other countries.

Big mistake in the choice of asylum. Japan accepts maybe one every few years, and this person will be hand-delivered to the junta if the junta asks Japan (well, delivered in a Nissan, with some Kirin beverages, at least).

I guess that "this case" puts Japan's bureaucrat authorities in a real dilemma.

The Tatmadaw is now burning down whole villages. Not being able to board an airplane to fly abroad and play sports is a minor inconvenience when death stalks every street and jungle trail in Myanmar.

Japan is not a good country to seek asylum at. I do not think Japan is prepared to take the heat from Myanmar.

Well the Junta allowed their athletes to come to the Olympics, can't be all bad.

Might have something to do with Japan so far refusing to impose any form of sanctions on the junta there. It is disappointing, bordering on deplorable.
