Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga's choice of a popular minister to handle the rollout of the coronavirus vaccine is largely a move to boost rapidly-sinking support rates, but may also aim to neutralize a strong rival for his job.

BS. First of all, the people don't vote the PM in. They vote the party in and the party decides the PM (or rather, NIppon Kaigi decides).

NK is NEVER going to approve Kono as PM as he is not even a member, and you mark my words- No one gets to be PM without being in Nippon Kaigi. Not going to happen.

Sly, what is the Nippon kaigi?

Sly, what is the Nippon kaigi?

They are the real rulers of Japan. Most of the politicians, media moguls, military personnel, and business people are members. This group controls the Political and Media landscape as well as the business and media world. they control Japan.

Japan, probably the only country where the COVID-19 vaccine program is already considered as a failure by the government, so much that implementing it can be used as a political weapon against a rival.

Kono is just another problem, his calls for efficiency are simply tropes or some weird personal prejudice. He toiled in the U.S.A., for ethically challenged Senator Alan Cranston. Afterwards he worked for right-wing Senator, Richard Shelby. Kono, is certainly not progressive in his views, he is your standard conservative with some behavioral issues that dub him charmingly eccentric. Kono's peculiarities make him unfit for higher office. Hopefully, he has some efficient managers, so he doesn't screw-up the vaccine program.

The outspoken Kono, who boasts a large social media following and has vowed to abolish inefficiencies such as personal seals and fax machines,

Becasue Suga gave him the job.

Yes, throwing him as a single person that unresolvable problem catalog onto the desk shows more rivalry or even deep hate than all conflict dealing with the whole opposition block consisting of many parties. lol

Far from neutralizing a rival, More like preparing him for The party leadership, If his roll out goes smoothly and quickly he will be seen as the one who did saved Japan from the Virus.

@Aly Rustom

No one gets to be PM without being in Nippon Kaigi.

He is already a member of The Shinto League which is the first step to becoming a member of Nippon Kaigi.

If he gets the first round of vaccines done swiftly then it will only be a matter of time before he is

If he joins NK he might have a shot. if not, he won't vaccine or not.
