Japan could use a strong "liberal" party.

This is really interesting. I hope he succeeds and provides Japan with a real choice for a change.

Edano has to be VERY careful not to let in ANY right wingers- same as Koike staffing her party with only right wingers.
If Edano can keep his party purely left wing, articulate and differenciate his party's policies clearly from the others, and form alliances with other left wing parties, he'll have a really good chance at winning. I wish him and his party all the best.

Edano is THE liar who flat out told people in the middle of a nuclear meltdown that everything was under control and that there was no reason to evacuate.
Am I wrong? I believe it WAS him and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing at the time.
And now, HE may be a serious candidate to lead Japan?? Umm... I pray NOT.

They didn't need a home. They needed new jobs.
Seriously what was their purpose in politics if just to follow the way the wind is going and jump on Koike's ship? I know that politicians get decent mobey and it would be hard to give it up, but seriously.... Japanese voters deserve more serious political candidates than this.
Hopefully it will become a good home for these outcast liberals though, but they could have just joined 'shamin' party anyway...
