“We must realise that this will be our last chance for a change in the regime,” said Katsuya Okada, a former foreign minister who leads the new party.

Chances of success as bleak as economic recovery under Abenomics.

Yatta! this will change everything.

If it weren't for the fact that nothing has actually changed. I suspect that voters in Japan choose the LDP because the alternatives are even less appealing, not because they love the LDP all that much. Problem is, the alternatives do not seem to offer much. Worst of all, they can't seem to join forces and deliver clear concise messages with own ideas. All I hear are them responding to what the LDP is saying. They should step away from that and go their own way, giving better alternatives to what Japan can be.

if their platform is anti-nuke and keeping the constitution then they should be albe to make gains in the election. throw in some child care ideas, and it will be a landslide.

I agree. I'm praying for a valid opposition party, and hopeful that these may be it. I'll at least wait until they've given me something to criticize them for before criticizing them.

Conservative liberal democratic. Words have no meaning for these parties. Just differnt mobs of socialist with inside deals to the construction and export lobby. Nothing innovative about this.

Do they have any policies? Or are they just going to sincerely do their best to do their best sincerely?

And throw in a new car too - it's just money right? Would probably even stimulate the economy and start a new economic boom! Yep, just like the "Democrat" party in the US. Free everything is the way to go! Do it Minshinto - debt is just a number.

You would prefer the more conservative LDP, that has just announced plans to blow another five trillion yen on "stimulus spending"?

Absolutely not. Japan cannot continuously spend, spend, spend as they have been doing year after year for the last two decades. But they cannot tax themselves to economic growth either. Without higher economic growth Japan's future is bleak.
