If the Committee insists on secrecy for 50 years, doesn't Trump's blowing his own trumpet about his nomination automatically disqualify him?

The requirement is for committee members. Do you really think Trump is one of the five members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee?

Unlike Obama, who well deserved it

The Nobel Peace Prize lost all meaning when they gave it to Obama for doing nothing, Stranger.

Unlike Obama, who well deserved it, Trump has done nothing to warrant getting this prize.

If this is true then the Nobel prize has become a farce. Like the Oscars.

It already did when Obama got it

Once again, and as always, it is ALL about Trump, and nothing else.

Trump has already been nominated by two Norwegian lawmakers.

What's up with that?

Still didn't change the case that he had to ask somebody to nominate him

Korea is still divided. North Korea still has its nuke capability. Korean relations with Japan are at a low. China and the US have a new cold war. Remind me, what is Trump being nominated for..?

No need for Abe:

If it had stopped there it would have been the Best headline from JT in a very long time

Ah, but the guy has a get-out-of-jail-free card, quote:

Tybring-Gjedde, who sits on the Norwegian Parliament's Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, also confirmed the joint nomination of Trump. "A possible award would of course depend on the talks leading to a credible disarmament deal," he said. (quote: tackling Pyongyang's nuclear weapons programme.)

The devil is in the detail.

I’m so happy the world has become so peaceful recently. Middle East is safe, no gun crime in the US, South America has no gangs, China, Russia are great friends. Africa looks great for Sahara tourism. The guy is the dude.

Trump wants it because Obama got it; he's obsessed with eclipsing Obama.

Since then Abe has declined to say whether he had done so

closet brown noser

Just delete the “peace” part and make it a celebrity award. Then we can move along.

Perfect! Brilliant!

Man, if this guy wins the prize then we'll never hear the end of it.

Actually, Abe is an important factor and very able salesman in selling things. He convinced Olympic committee to grant Tokyo 2020 in a city that no one would even think it possible in the month of July when so many people dead of the heat.

Awesome! He deserves it more than the last president.

Neither one deserves it.

If the Nobel Peace Prize is based on North Korea saying they'd back off from nuclear weapons and getting to meet Moon, then the prize should go to China's Xi, not Trump. The whole thing started after Kim's "secret" trips to China for who knows what.

In my opinion, Trump is just a show to hide what's really going on (which we don't know yet).

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Haha already nominated by “others”. As he should have been.

All but the self-deluded know that the hapless Trump is a "president with no clothes" and a real "piece of work" to boot who, if nominated by his arrogant , self-appointed fellow arbiters of global affairs, will most deservedly earn his narcissistic self the by now almost worthless Nobel "Piece" Prize.

keeping secret for 50 years the names of nominators and unsuccessful nominees.

If the Committee insists on secrecy for 50 years, doesn't Trump's blowing his own trumpet about his nomination automatically disqualify him?

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Ok, so the guy who calls Mexicans rapists and wants to build a wall is getting nominated for a peace prize? The guy willing to chum up to North Korea to make a deal despite their numerous crimes against basic human dignity?

Am I reading The Onion?
