the punitive steps against the lawmakers, saying only that he would act "as soon as possible."

So, he is saying there's a chance... of consequences for them... eventually?

Kishida, however, did not elaborate on when he will take the punitive steps against the lawmakers, saying only that he would act "as soon as possible."

Don’t let that Kobe steak get cold Kishida san!

Act now before ….oh well….next year is ok or the next.

Does it even matter anyway, whether they are punished for any moral reasons (there seems to be no longer any judicial reasons) or to the chances of LDP re-election? It's like some very silly and pointless soap opera.

Yeah sure it is.

Except Japanese elected officials keep breaking parliamentary rules on the tap payers’ yen and nothing is ever done

What about any criminal investigations into the lawmakers themselves, instead of just their secretaries? Or is Kishida afraid he would be named as well?

The ONLY punitive measure that would mean anything would be to kick them out of the LDP and do everything in his power to prevent them from ever running again, and fining them the equivalent of their severance pay!

I mean there is a long line of terrible Japanese PM over the past few decades but this guy takes the grand turkey prize. Kishida will leverage any opportunity to keep stumbling along in the PM's office, this time to "punish" politicians of his own party. I would think that would be a matter of party discipline, not government business. Japanese "democracy" at its finest.

Oh and if anyone should be held in detention for "breaking the public trust", it's these guys!

Reprimand!? I laugh again.

Elections right now would be a bloodbath for the LDP.

Elections right now would be a bloodbath for the LDP.

Oh, if only. All of the opposition parties seem to be sort of okay, but not one of them has the funding or the grassroots support needed to go up against the LDP election-winning machine.

he would act "as soon as possible."

As a Prime Minister, if your number 1 priority is to reprimand your own staff (that you chose) for illegal actions and NOT to better the country and the people you are supposed to be "leading," chances are, you're not doing a good job.

In other words, Kishida, LDP. GTHO already. You're wasting everyone's time and money.
