@Zichi: The mass under No1 is called Corium. It is not simply the fuel rods. It's an horrendous entity. Were the 'workers' the real men and women who are in there day after day, or merely glossy management who sit at the back and point where the workers have to go and what to do? Mr Noda, approach it with everything at your disposal, ask for help, make it an international endeavor. 頑張っておいで!

Second Paragraph - "will inspect the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and meet prefecture Gov Yuhei Sato later in the day."

The government has said some areas close to the plant may be uninhabitable for years due to dangerous contamination, amid an erosion of public faith in how forthcoming officials have been about the consequences of the disaster.

Now, since the J Govt agrees that some areas close to the plant may be uninhabitable for years due to dangerous contamination. Please Please tell the evacuees from those areas that there is No going back home and that they will be compensated.

Noda also visited local residents’ decontamination work at a school in Date city, just outside of the evacuation zone.

Were the Local Residence of Date City trained in the handling of radioactive contaminates ?

Non-Inhabitable is different to allowing residents to go back for a few hours to fetch needed belongings they had to leave behind.

Most of the evacuees have known that much for months but are still divided as many grew up there or had/tried to establish Homes & Businesses for their families.

@Zichi: There's a mass of solidified now crumbling to dust --terrifying-- Corium under reactor 4 at Chernobyl. It's one of the reasons it is covered. To stop THAT getting into the wide renvironment.

Mr. Noda, what's up with the increase in radioactive iodine that is only produced by nuclear fission all over Tokyo in mid August? zakzak.co.jp/society/domestic/news/20110909/dms1109091222007-n1.htm

@Zichi: please read the full article, and maybe even do a little research before posting tons of comments that have no merit whatsoever.

Article saids: "Noda bowed deeply and stood while Sato sat."

When Japan PM bows, it's pitiful, and shows much weakness and maybe he should be wearing a dress. PM needs to stand up straight and show confidence. Problem with the way J-politicans handle the situation is that bowing is always the right thing to do when things are not going well, at the same time, they don't mean it. Noda needs to get on the serious side of the issue and implement effective recovery plan that is meaningful. If not, he will be out of the office and next PM clone will bow even more.
