No surprises here. The more chat about raising taxes - and not using the money to rebuild - the lower it will go. Whose turn is next?! Bets on if he makes it a year?

What? Three months and you're still here, Mr. Noda? Don't you realize that the consumers -- whoops, I meant voters -- of this country have already gotten bored with you? You came to power when the first Christmas decorations started appearing. Now they're coming down and you'd better be packed away with them. New soft drinks have come and gone at the convenience stores during your premiership, the seasons have passed from hot to cold, and we're bored with the notion of "Prime Minister Noda". Aren't there any other interesting choices on the shelf? Hurry up -- we can't wait -- we don't what to do with ourselves because we can't go on if there's nothing new in our lives ...

Bye, Bye Mr. no-da !

The Japanese government needs to suck it up and work together to come up with concrete strategies for cleaning up and rebuilding the Tohoku area, not to mention the mountain of other issues they should be dealing with rather than bickering like a bunch of grade schoolers over who's to blame.

It's too much to ask that these old farts grow a pair and actually do their jobs.

I think that noda it should dissolve parliament and call a general election because he has no more, moral conditions to remain in office as prime minister.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The revolving door is starting to spin once again. I give him til mid year.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Has he been perfect? No. But the Japanese people always seem to expect a miracle worker who will solve all the nation's problems in a quick and painless manner. Not going to happen.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

"Noda’s proposal to double the 5% consumption tax, a step deemed necessary by global experts to rein in Japan’s enormous public debt, was also unpopular, the Nikkei said."

So, fine. Keep the tax rate the same and cancel the Nenkin system. Geez, Japan, if you want womb-to-tomb services you have pay for them. Noda is not perfect but he's been the most steady Prime Minister in the last 5 years in my opinion.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

They want a miracle worker but someone who makes or tries to make any changes it tossed out. They can't have it both ways but can't seem to understand it. The revolving door is only hurting their country and making fools of the nation.

Is it that time of year already? Wow...almost like clockwork...so according to my Sori disapproval meter, he's got about another 6 to 7 months left until he get's ousted.

I agree samwaters.

Increase the tax but as a vat tax, not an overall 100% regressive tax.

The public is finally catching on to the fact that this DPJ experiment is a total, abject failure. It's as if we have a whole team of minor league players trying to compete in the big leagues. These people don't have the wisdom, experience or aggressiveness to successfully guide Japan through the current times. The LDP is our only hope, it is the only legitimate government of Japan since the war. Japanese electoral politics should be a fight between seasoned veterans of LDP factions, and not include these other inexperienced parties.

The LDP will be back in the next general election and then we cab get on to the business of fixing the disastrous consequences of leftist rule.

This is why Japan SHOULD have a Libertarian party!

The LDP governed five decades with pork barrels, earmarks and crony capitalism! They'll only wreck the country again!

Noda's approval rating may go up if he gets some business materialized during his visit to India, especially Nuclear Technology.

"The trend mirrors the fate of Noda’s five short-lived predecessors...."

I'm not sure how anyone can rightly pin the 'handling of the nuclear crisis' on Noda, save for his declaration of cold shutdown being achieved, but everything else is more or less on the mark. The article also didn't mention Noda going back on DPJ promises of cutting wasteful spending.

I think that's a harsh way to put it. I would say the LDP governed by creating a quiet wealth for those of us lucky enough to be in the know and in the right social circles, while managing to conceal this from the rest and placate them by maintaining the facade that we were all of the same social class. With the DPJ that facade has begun to disappear. We need to get it back up again so we can go on enriching ourselves without complaint from the rabble. We need them to vote responsibly in the next election.

Seems hasty. High standards are excellent, but they have to be moderated with realism and humaneness.

Lets hope the Chinese government airfreighting their pandas to japan reaching those tsunami areas as early as the first week next month to cheerup the refugees, otherwise those desperated people will express their frustrations to Mr Noda by calling him 'step down'. And of all us has to know the next PM of Japn from begin!

Oh dear!

The king is dead.

God save the king!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cry not Loud! This guy Noda deserves better.

How many more PMs do you want to churn like a disposal diaper?

Many Japanese failed to see the fact that Japan has been governed without leaders and still run by corrosive elite bureaucrats who are self interest seekers. What a tragedy!! WAKE UP FOLKS.

"Despite the near-zero interest rate policy the Bank of Japan has been pursuing for years, interest expense on the debt—at 230% of GDP by far the highest in the developed world—will eat up ¥21.9 trillion in 2012, a stunning 51.8% of tax revenues!" http://www.zerohedge.com/contributed/endgame-japan-makes-another-move

Tough situation to be in...

5 decades of corrosive LDP ruling leads Japan into bankruptcy you failed to see. You've got it right, Bwhahaha!!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

globalwatcher,

Bankruptcy for the government and common person, sure. But we have our assets overseas and diversified in many markets and have freed ourselves from the anchor of the ship we set on course for the rocks. It was an exchange we made to enrich ourselves and our children's children at the expense of the nation. On to the next market...

IMF, G20, global investors and I have been advocating Japan needs to work harder to reduce sovereign debt. Your post listed above reminds me a story of "Naked Prince". Think about it, will you?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

25 comments that offer not a whit of support - get behind Noda and he will bring back the Japan you once knew. He can't do it without support, but he is trying and I for one would like him to bring in the new year with a bang. I am an American, But I like Noda and I will help him as much as I am able.

@globalwatcher thanks for the advice, but we're doing just fine.

Okay, show me the beef. I do not know if you are still in denial or simply cannot take a constructive criticism from others. Go abroad and see what the rest of us are doing. We keep moving forward without you. Japan is actually melting down if you like or not. Face it.

A shoe box house, too many PMs, corruptons, TEPCO NUKE mess, broken Nenkin, low GDP 2% or less, 233.1% sovereign debt/GDP ratio, no busness governance, Okinawa, old Japanese business model in global market without competitiveness., manufacturing moving abroad due to strong yen........ I can continue more and more on the list.

Good luck to you, we will be moving forward without you. No problem. You have convinced me you are very allergic to changes.

@globalwatcher,

I think you misunderstood my posts. What you said is exactly what I'm saying. We sucked this place dry and bled everything we could out of it. You're right, Japan is melting down. We set it up that way. That's what we wanted.

That's the way you wanted? Do you want to live in a shoe box for life with no hope and future? I do not know for some reason your post is missing something for me to comprehend.
